Exciting, fast paced but supportive
Formative Content is an excellent company to work for. Fast paced and successful with plenty of career progression and a real passion for the well being of all staff members. The company is growing fast, but the senior management team are ensuring that the 'small company culture' is being maintained throughout this process. The employee experience team and admirable employee benefits package make working here enjoyable as well as successful. A wide variety of ages and backgrounds across the teams make the office environment interesting. All this based in the idyllic market town of Beaconsfield within easy access of the M40, M25 and London (by train). It is a hard-working and dynamic company with a senior leadership team who are not afraid to encourage their employees to develop and expand their skills and knowledge.

Interesting work and lots of opportunities
I have been working at Formative Content full-time for several years. Pros - Really interesting and brain-stretching work across prestigious global clients - Lots of career development opportunities thanks to rapid growth - Strong belief in work/life balance from senior management Cons - It's very busy, with high expectations of all staff - Fast growth means things don't always go perfectly smoothly

Fast paced, great clients
I worked in a couple of different roles here and it was a really good learning experience. The company is growing incredibly quickly - there were times when there were new people every week, but they have added more senior people in HR, Content and Client Services which helped manage the change. They work with some incredible clients and the quality of work produced is excellent. Overall a great place to start and progress your career as long as you are happy with a fast-paced environment.

Growing fast and full of opportunities
I found Formative a great place to work. It has a proper start-up culture so if you have good ideas you'll do well. Creativity is rewarded and rapid growth means there is serious career potential. There are many world-leading clients and Formative gave me plenty of unique opportunities. Company leadership is strong - a lot of energy and commitment from the top down. If you like being spoon-fed, this isn't the place for you. The team is energetic and dynamic but you'll have to be able to think for yourself. I found working here rewarding and inspiring.

Great clients, terrible company culture
Formative Content has some genuinely world-class clients, and you have the opportunity to sink your teeth into some exciting projects here - but the business suffers from several systemic issues and its working environment is toxic. Unlike many other organisations, there is a genuine respect for work-life balance and company growth was rapid during the time that I worked here, although this often came at the expense of employee wellbeing, which reflected in the company's high turnover of staff. A culture of bullying and blame was rife within the organisation. Public humiliations were common and perhaps more worryingly, junior members of staff were encouraged to exhibit this sort of behaviour towards their coworkers when something hadn't gone to plan. On-the-job training is practically nonexistent and you are left to your own devices for much of the time. Of course, you can't get anywhere without a bit of initiative and hard work but guidance and support from the top down is also necessary. My suggestions to improve the company's training processes were pointedly ignored. The fast growth of the company meant that junior staff members could move up the ranks quite quickly, although lack of training and development meant that many weren't cut out for their positions. This, in turn, created a backlog of communication issues across the company and further fueled the rampant bullying culture as younger staff tried to curry favour with senior management by aping their blame and intimidation tactics. The absence of an HR department also meant that management were free to treat staff as they wished, and several members were constructively dismissed from their positions during the time that I worked here.
