Insights into GAP Group
Areas for improvement
- Sense of belonging
- Trust in colleagues
- General feeling of work happiness
Toxic enviroment
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Bodmin, Cornwall - 5 July 2022
The nuts and bolts of the the job are good. I enjoyed it Vehicle s poorly maintained I e faults overlooked untill they fail completely They constantly look for scape goats Management have their preferred staff members They refuse to look into why their staff turnover is so high. In the 3 years I was there almost every role had changed staff members several times. Loyalty means nothing

Gap is a great place to work
Small tool fitter (Current Employee) - Brighton - 25 June 2022
Gap is a great place to work , it’s a massive company that still has a family feel , I think it’s so good that the company owners are so hands on with the day to day running of the company and always are available. I have worked for other tool hire companies and you just feel like a number but gap is so different . You feel valid and listened to
Pros
Great communication
Cons
Is fast pace in small tools

Stay Away! You've Been Warned!
Driver (Former Employee) - Leicester, Leicestershire - 31 May 2022
Terrible place to work, manager is hated in the trade, terrible pay, area manager said "there was no such thing as Covid!". Manager slags off everyone behind their backs, hardly ever had breaks as he expected you to work through them!
Pros
Easy hours
Cons
Manager and his spies!

Awful company to work for
Former employee (Former Employee) - South West - 12 May 2022
A awful company to work for, somewhere you go if you're desparate or can't get anything else. You're just a number and get pushed and pushed until you're on the edge then they give you a kick to help you over.
Pros
None
Cons
Too many to list

Fast stressful
Plant Supervisor (Current Employee) - Gateshead, Tyne and Wear - 26 April 2022
Not worth the stress, not treat like a human more like a number, hard work not appreciated by upper management staff and health and safety not taken seriously

Terrible
The management was horrible, I was lied to about the pay and had a horrible time at GAP Inverness. Overall experience here was shocking. Apprentices getting bullied by management, team members being guilt tripped and threatened to stay with the company. Management taking out their mistakes and anger on staff.
Pros
Free plant hire
Cons
Negative feeling amongst staff

Enjoy the day to day job..Good hours and worklife balance. A good manager who's listens values my opinion and takes it on board.
Class 2 tanker driver (Current Employee) - Dundee - 23 February 2022
I'm very happy at Gap enjoy my day to day work and get along with everyone. Management have been great with me since starting and always listen and take on my points of view. I woulnt mind getting offered a little more overtime at the weekend but joining during the pandemic it's understandable and might come yet once things pick up. Salary isn't great but I'm happy to go to work and enjoy working there.
Pros
Hours, onsite parking. Flexible with my start and finish time. Manager was really good.
Cons
Salary isn't great. But the job is good.

Very slow paced
Apprentice Mechanic (Current Employee) - Northampton, Northamptonshire - 3 February 2022
Hard working many people who work at gap don't care about how they send out the kit to the customer and then wonder why the kit comes back off hired within a day or two.

Different rules for different folk
Administrator (Current Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 8 December 2021
Depending on who you are in the company depends on what rules are applicable to you. Too many managers! They don’t care about the well-being of their staff at all. They have completely ignored the lates government guidance on working from home and the owner of the business is walking about with no mask on in communal areas where masks are mandatory
Pros
None
Cons
No flexibility

Dirty smelly job but have all the tools to do it safely
Class 2 tanker driver (Current Employee) - Bournemouth - 6 November 2021
I actually enjoy my job emptying septic tanks! I have a new fully loaded lorry and the hours are very social 7-4. I would appreciate a bit more work though as can be boring at times
Pros
Good work life balance
Cons
Salary could be better

This company is run by a load of cowboys who are only too happy to brush there failings under the carpet!
Labourer (Current Employee) - United Kingdom - 9 August 2021
At gap for nearly 7 years.. The depot manager has no management skills or people skills at all, and is only too happy to push the blame onto others when there's a problem!.. No teamwork within the depot at all,at times there would be a horrible atmosphere which would carry on for months while the depot manager was out on his jollys.. Plant would be returned, refuelled and sent straight back out..without even being checked! No training given to apprentices, basically just told to crack on..and learn for themselves I met some really good people while at gap, but unfortunately I met alot of untrustworthy liers who would throw you under the bus at any given opportunity!.. I wouldn't recommend gap group to anybody, Very poor company

Very poor pay for the work that you do.
HGV Class 2 Driver (Former Employee) - Scotland - 7 July 2021
I worked there for 2 and a half year worst job I have ever had. Pay was horrendous. Too many people in charge, including someone who done the exact same job as me. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to work for them.
Pros
Working hours
Cons
Salary. Too many bosses. Vehicles in poor condition.
