Don't work here unless you are desperate for work
Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Chesterfield - 17 November 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedHealth and safety issues are regularly being dismissed and you are just told to get on with the job. Transport management have their favorites and they get the pick of the jobs other drivers get told what they are doing even if it means doing longer hours than they wanted to.
Pros
None
Cons
Health and safety problems

I’ve worked at a lot worse places. Positive experience
LGV 1 Driver (Current Employee) - Chesterfield - 31 October 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Friendly, helpful co-workers and equipment that is suitable for the job What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Long hours and lots of unnecessary waiting around What is the work environment and culture like at the company? In the short time that I have worked here I have found it a friendly, informal environment. Co-workers are more than happy to help if you are unsure of anything. A positive experience up to now What is a typical day like for you at the company? Arrive for shift. Some days you are given work straight away others you could be waiting 1 hour plus for paperwork. Left alone mostly to get on with your work return to base, go home

What people like
- Clear sense of purpose
- Fair pay for job
Areas for improvement
- Sense of belonging
- Support from manager
- Trust in colleagues
Some management are not good
Warehouse Operative (Current Employee) - Thornbury, Gloucestershire - 28 October 2023
Fast work place. Many different roles, however they only choose same people for same roles. Mangers have no commission skills, and aggressive in most areas. The other works are fine to work with.
Pros
Pay
Cons
Management needs a change

Diverse and very engaging.
Very fast paced environment, with health and safety at the forefront of the business. The management team is diverse and well structured. The culture of the business is people focused and engaging. The hardest part of the job is managing time as time seems to move quickly due to the fast paced environment. The most enjoyable part of the job is the end result, and knowing the business value your contribution.
Pros
Good canteen and benefits
Cons
Lots of acronym to get used to.

I enjoy my new job
Manager (Current Employee) - Spalding, Lincolnshire - 19 October 2023
I wanted the job because of the challenge it presented, I've not been here long but I enjoy coming to work and the team I work with. If you want an easy ride Gist is not for you but if you're willing to work hard then you should seriously consider Gist. My experience through the interview process was very slick and I always knew what was happening.
Pros
Challenges and opportunities
Cons
Breaking the bad habits.

Fast paced & productive place to work
First Line Manager (Current Employee) - Hampshire - 19 October 2023
No two days are the same! There is no joke it’s an extremely fast paced environment, for teams to work collaboratively across various divisions across the network. Operationally the culture is relatively positive with your standard grumbles, but a great place to either start or develop your career. There are sites nationwide, with various opportunities but you need to be motivated to succeed. The hardest part of the job is to manage the demand and expectation, but ultimately very enjoyable.
Pros
Ability to meet personal goals
Cons
Pay in some areas is not competitive

Excellent for internal development & support
Operational Support (Current Employee) - Chineham - 19 October 2023
In the six months I have been here, I have felt fully supported and encouraged to grow. Opportunities to learn and develop my knowledge in my role and as a person. Sometimes there is pressure in the workload, but that is present in most companies/roles in a busy environment. There are fantastic growth opportunities and support if needed. Working on MS Teams to stay connected to colleagues and management. All materials provided.
Pros
20% off at M&S, Annual Bonus Scheme & Hybrid working
Cons
Flexible working/reduced hours

What is the best part of working at the company? Nothing. Can’t think any positive What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Pick rates and Christmas rush What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Very biased to certain ethnic groups . You can only progress if friends or same nationality as managers. They deny this but only 1 black people in manager role and none in office roles . Mainly Romanians get these jobs. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Stressful, very cold below 5 degrees and not allowed to come out to warm up ,your hands hurts they don’t supply adequate gloves

Warehouse Operative (Current Employee) - Thornbury - 23 September 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Good pay but unfortunately that's the only positive thing to say about the company. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Having to work twice as hard as more experienced people. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Some of the people at gist are great but there is also a horrible us and them feel that makes it feel very toxic.

Warehouse Operative (Current Employee) - Motherwell - 12 September 2023
Great management, good team, but its a chilled warehouse, definetly not for everyone, physically very demanding. Its in your own best interest to work hard to stay warm.

Warehouse Operative (Current Employee) - Cumbernauld - 29 August 2023
There is not much to say about this job in a strip forward enough people are very clicky and will stab you in the back as soon as you turn it to not a very nice working environment they tend to gang up on each other
Pros
There are no pros other than you get paid every week

Avoid!
Warehouse Operative (Current Employee) - Thatcham, Berkshire - 15 August 2023
There many reasons not to go there, and work. First of all, most of the employees have to travel everyday at work at least 30 mins or 1h by train, bus or other transport. Secondly, the nature of work is robotic, you will listen orders from voice lady speaking shjtty English even though you are British. Disorganised from top to bottom. They manage through computer systems, and networking/be social is essential if someone want to stay for reasonable time with them. Your seniority is HUGE advantage. There is no future for new starters, unless they are connected or extremely flexible workers. There is new payment offers through union negotiations annually. Join it to benefit! However, there are few people who can make the difference in many ways, but they were never given the opportunity.

There's a two tier system between the workers and the management of whom their are many. Too many chefs spoil the broth.
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Barnsley - 11 July 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Leaving the depot to travel on the open road. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The various levels of management above the driver's who want to look for a way of making their personal ego's enlarge. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? The best way to describe the environment is Communism What is a typical day like for you at the company? Boring work and you're always being watched on the tracking devices

Avoid Enfield as fair as you can
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Enfield - 6 July 2023
Worse ever management I meet. You have contract 40h a week but is on average 52 weeks, that makes you work on 0 h contract. You have no guaranteed 8h a day and most of the time job is done in 4-6 hours. If you have mortgage and family do not bother to apply.

Cons
Short shifts

bad place too work as driver !
Driver (Current Employee) - Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire - 2 July 2023
don`t do it , it`s ok in the first 3 months then they will send you out on your own on new routes , with no training , if you ask them something they will tell sure , no worries but they don`t consider drivers in any way , after 2 years i get enough , the managers are useless and when get in the office , in night time they are sleeping with their heads on their table . And racist as well so think twice before you go there , the best think is the shift patern ...but rest is fail !! a lot of work with cages very heavy .

0 hours contract
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - England - 29 June 2023
Do not bother to apply. You will get promises of at least 40h a week plus plenty of overtime and end up with less than 30. One day you will get on one day 3-5 hours shift and on another day 15 where overtime is paid after 40h. Wake up in the middle of the night for nothing. I have a good job and I change for better money at GIST Bullying, management gives you a lot of stress. Hourly pay is good but if you can’t get minimum hours is nothing. The transport office is a joke, very young people have no respect for drivers. A good place to learn how to drive, many accidents and you can get promoted for that to be taken off from difficult access to the stores just easy runs. If you are still interested just ask when you are on an interview if you can be guaranteed paid 8 hours a day.

To be totally honest it’s the worst place to work I worked there for 41 years and my last years were the worst. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Stressful from start to finish
