Awful to work for.
Bricklayer (Former Employee) - Cumbria - 23 August 2023
Had to leave. Refused to work to their low standards. Not bothered about quality. Just slap the houses up sell them quick. Only lip service paid to planning approval once they get it.

Forklift Driver (Former Employee) - Cumbria - 28 June 2023
This is the worst company I have ever worked for. They are totally unprofessional and badly managed. Their treatment of their customers and employees is terrible.
Pros
Anybody can get a job with them regardless of experience

A very toxic and stressful workplace
Site Manager (Former Employee) - Cumbria - 24 June 2023
As a very experienced site manager I was discussed by the treatment of staff by higher management. The pressure on managers, QSs and sales staff was far too high and is reflected by a very high turnover of staff in all departments. The corners cut in the build to achieve completion targets are beyond believe. If you are a professional with integrity who values your sanity this is definitely not the company for you.
Pros
Above average salaries (required to attract staff)
Cons
Very high stress and blame culture, very long hours and a revolving door recruitment

Terrible company to work for
Engineer (Former Employee) - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire - 28 February 2023
They do not care about each individual. The people at the top are not interested about their employees. Threatened redundancy after 3 months of starting with the company! I do not recommend working for Gleeson.
Pros
Work/life balance
Cons
Just a number

Some of my colleagues were lovely unfortunately the company as a whole was incredibly badly organised, lack of infrastructure, poor internet, poor IT support

Don't bother
Telehandler Operator (Former Employee) - Rochdale - 18 August 2022
Over worked, too much expected of you, non stop calls from manager to add more workload on you, too many people onsite wanting gear, badly run sites, filthy canteens and toilet facilities, better off on agency then you can just walk away easier
Pros
Wage isn't too bad
Cons
Overworked..stressed..

Energetic and kind workplace
Anonymous (Current Employee) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire - 14 April 2021
It's a good place to work, the office environment is productive and the majority of staff are easily approachable. Would highly recommend from my personal experience, the only downside is them being frugal in terms of financial benefits.
Pros
Happy work life
Cons
Frugal

I've been with the company for nearly 3 years and I love it more than ever. Promoted last year and look forward to every day. Company is growing fast but different regions still make it small and friendly.

Stressful
Sales (Current Employee) - Various - 9 April 2021
This is a fast paced company which is going through a lot of changes quickly who have the money to rebrand but lack of trades and experienced staff to execute the change. Fantastic vision but an unrealistic method. Overworked staff with poor life/work balance
Pros
Build nice affordable homes
Cons
Poor work life balance, company do not trust their staff so constant monitoring and testing

Sales Advisor (Former Employee) - Sheffield head office - 29 September 2020
The worst company ever. All management especially HR are completely lazy and two faced. No one wants to help you if you are a nice, genuine hard working person with feelings then this definitely isnt the place to work. Bullying goes on everday and everyone turns a blind eye!!

Stay away and save the hassle
Labourer/Handyman (Former Employee) - Tyne and Wear - 21 August 2020
I had to laugh when i spotted their advert which stated ''join our passionate, collaborative and respectful teams out on site''.
You see the trouble with Gleesons is some site managers are great and will try and help you but being treated like dirt by clowns higher up, absolutely shocking pay and a complete disregard for genuine workers make this company one to avoid.
Pros
Home time

Through agency
House finisher (Former Employee) - Sheffield - 5 August 2020
I had a phone call from an agency I hadn't had any dealings with but I wasn't working so I accepted. I was asked if I had a drill to take it with me.
I went home at break on the first day to bring more of my tools.
Described by agency as labouring and the odd bit like fitting door handles.
It was full on snagging and finishing.
Pros
Varied work
Cons
Underpaid for skill requirement

Don’t bother
Site Manager (Current Employee) - Doncaster, South Yorkshire - 18 January 2020
No proper induction to the company. You are just left there to get on with it. Total lack of help, advice and support. HR non existent. Experienced bullying and despite putting in a formal complaint there was no sign of any official investigations, minutes of meetings. No option left but walk away.
