A mixed experience, one minute very busy understaffed to being relaxed and over staffed
Snr Grill Chef (Former Employee) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire - 7 August 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedA yo-yo experience, always understaffed in the kitchen and over staffed FOH, staffing levels never correct at the correct time. Pay reasonable and promotion prospects and training are good
Pros
Free lunch
Cons
Long days

Management rubbish
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - Norwich - 20 November 2023
The company doesn’t care about mental health. Don’t work here if you want to be stressed out and managed out. Other than that the FOH team and kitchen team are amazing, you can always make a friend and trust them.
Pros
Nice FOH and BOH staff
Cons
Long hours, no appreciation, don’t support mental health

Typical day at work rally bored. Working with unprofessional management make your working day hard
Head Chef/Kitchen Manager (Former Employee) - Birmingham - 10 September 2023
Not any workplace culture. Working with unprofessional manager and area manager isn’t fun at all. The most enjoyable part at work when you have a single shift
Pros
I dont have any

GBK Bracknell
Team Member (Current Employee) - Bracknell, Berkshire - 4 June 2023
Worked at the Bracknell branch and wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Managers report to area manager and above. Creation of a toxic culture because problems are not solved ans team members are not supported. Reported toxic issues from senior FOH staff and this was never sorted out. Mental stress and toxicity is what you get at this branch with a huge turnover. Some great team members who are great outside of work but the pressures and minimum wage is belittling. Kitchen Manager and the team work so hard and customers love him and come in asking for good food and for him to play his cool music.
Pros
Good burgers!
Cons
Long hours, absolutely no training for FOH

Good work life balance
Grill Chef (Former Employee) - West Thurrock and South Stifford - 26 May 2023
My time at GBK was not without its negatives. It was extremely easy on most days yet borderline impossible to maintain quality on weekends, due to the workload on grill. There were three different managers in my year or so working for the company and plenty of nefarious types that had come and gone. It often felt like the blind leading the blind but what I did get from working there, is extremely rare in this industry: a decent life outside of work. The management did their best to accommodate my particular needs.
Pros
Decent people, decent treatment.
Cons
Chaotic.

Jobs at Gourmet Burger Kitchen
Overall great but some downsides
Front of House Staff (Current Employee) - London, Greater London - 17 May 2023
Great atmosphere but that is what you make it I think. Free food. Relaxed and really encouraged to be yourself especially with customer service. Pay isn’t the best but time off requests and schedules are pretty flexible. Management are quite good and do support you. late nights but guess that’s expected in a restaurant. 48hr working week seems very old fashioned and too much. Breaks not paid for management which I find strange. There’s also no clear bonus scheme as it changes all the time. No sick pay for management.
Pros
Free food on shift
Cons
Shifts are long and late

Demanding
Back of House Team Member (Former Employee) - St. Pauls - 3 April 2023
Too many tasks for such little pay. The hours were incredibly long, sometimes nine hours on your feet, and then having to clean the toilets after double shifts late at night was exhausting. The amount of free food given for your shift depends on how many hours you’re working that day, which never used to be the case.

Okay
Front of House (Former Employee) - York, North Yorkshire - 3 January 2023
Some friendly staff but also have your clicky groups who stick together and bring everyone else down, usually containing managers. Other than that simple enough work.

It's typical hospitality, but prepare yourself
Back of House (Current Employee) - Bracknell - 29 December 2022
It's okay, but it's not, you just don't realise it at first. Unless hospitality is for you and you like the industry (even then you can find better places) then still be aware that you need to sacrifice most of your free time and personal life. Update: This place has shown no signs on change and now even more responsibility has been placed upon me without the appropriate training. Please for your own good don't come here to work.
Pros
Work experience, some of the other team members
Cons
Very long hours, can't make any plans to enjoy what time you have outside work

Fast paced but fun
Waitress (Former Employee) - the bar, UK - 3 December 2022
A nice and friendly place to work. Fast paced so don’t mind being on your feet a lot. Customers are mostly nice. Plus food allowance/discounted food on shift.

Assistant Manager (Full Time) (Current Employee) - Kingston upon Thames - 23 September 2022
Every Company has its Pros and Cons, depending on what prospective you look at it. If you are a problem solver then it's amazing work place. Fun place to be at.

friendly staff and relaxed working environment
FOH Team Member (Former Employee) - Oxford, Oxfordshire - 28 August 2022
worked at GBK for 4 years as a front of house team member. as my first job, it taught me the ropes of working in hospitality and I formed close bonds with my colleagues.
Pros
free lunches

Lack of training, stressful and not worth it
Grill Chef (Current Employee) - London - 13 August 2022
Received barely any training, recruiting more chefs has been horrible because nobody wants to work for the pittance wages and lack of tips that this company offers in London. Long hours, some nice managers (most of them are useless) but that doesn't make up for the shortcomings. In my opinion this job is fine for a part timer but full time is not worth it.

Good for short term, not long term
Front of House (Former Employee) - Dulwich, Greater London - 16 June 2022
Great place to build experience but aside that it can be stressful. workplace dynamic can be imbalanced and tasks are unfairly assigned. bit of favouritism going on as well esp with the management and the higher ups in the restaurant. don’t seem to care if you fall sick or have other life responsibilities.can be cliquey and have had many rude encounters with front/back of house. Didn’t have much choice with shift selection.
