Fun, but tough
Manager/Supervisor (Former Employee) - Guildford, Surrey - 21 May 2020
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedAs with any hospitality job, the fast-paced environment, and busy services can mean this is a demanding job, however all the team I met over several sites were fun-loving and friendly!

It was good
SUPERVISOR (Former Employee) - Worcestershire - 14 October 2020
To work with my team was amazing, but GBK has 0 hours contract only so preper yourself they promise everything to get you but they will give nothing back, today they fired 680 people without any notice. Redundancy immediately. Communication is really poor between staff and company. Salary was good. Training after training every month. Don't expect too much it's a slave work you may have to work from 9am till 11pm but they definitely will give you break (up to 4 hours) never knows how long. You can't plan anything. Rota can be changed every day.
Pros
Free lunch (point system you get food what your points let you eat depends on worked hours
Cons
Liars

Jobs at Gourmet Burger Kitchen
Supervisor positionsthe worst job I've ever had
Supervisor (Current Employee) - United Kingdom - 23 October 2019
to start with, I have been told that I should not worry about people leaving as they can be easily replaced - that says everything about the company - you won't be looked after. what you get paid for what you have to deal with is basically not enough, considering you get barely any tips (no surprise, the restaurant does not offer any service really). new staff do not receive any training, management only care about hitting targets set by the head office. new managers left on their own without any training, don't be fooled by so called 'induction week' - they will only show you the basics and expect you just to do the job from day one. FOH seem to be complaining about everything, no one is really commited to do their job, which makes it difficult to work as a team.

This job can be stressful at times due to dealing with difficult customers, the hours are normally quite long. The people you work with are easy to get along with, overall its a fun and easy environment to work in.
Pros

Great Workplace
Supervisor (Former Employee) - Canterbury, Kent - 30 July 2019
Ry the manager at Canterbury was the best manager I ever had. Progression opportunities are good and the relationships between workers are great. Loved working here and would return in a heartbeat.

Not fun would never recommend
Supervisor (Former Employee) - Ealing - 6 July 2019
The company itself is severely understaffed and won’t employ any more staff due to cutting costs. Management is terrible, racism lingers in nearly ever store. Hard to communicate with kitchen as most of them don’t speak basic English and are rude. No support from management and they literally train anyone to be a supervisor even though staff oppose of the supervisor which ends up meaning that everyone else has to pick up the pieces! It’s a good job if you are part time.... the less time spent the better
Pros
Free lunch
Cons
Long hours, favouritism and unprofessionalism

GBK expects you to have no life
Supervisor (Current Employee) - Bracknell - 18 June 2019
Working at GBK can be a joy, but it really depends upon which GBK you're working in. If you've got a good team and good management then even the bad shifts are great, and there's communication to still have a life outside of work even with very last minute rota's. HOWEVER if you're in one of the bad restaurants the attitude is that when you're not working you're waiting to cover last minute, and if not you're made to feel like a terrible employee just for having other ambitions and a social life outside of work. Flexibility can be great, but not when you're getting 0-10 hours of work when you're supposed to be getting 20 hours.
Pros
Free lunch
Cons
Very long or very short shifts

Ideal for students, or under 18's but not for anyone else.
Supervisor (Former Employee) - London - 26 November 2018
Wouldn't recommend this job for anyone who doesn't have a life long dream of working towards a career in hospitality. You should never hate going to work, a workplace should never jeopardise your mental health. I witnessed three members of staff spiral into depression at different stages of their journey there and all said working here played a major part in this.
i'm just being very honest and I don't even want to seem dramatic.
The pay is poor. There is a lot of favouritism if your polish or from this region... then they spend alot of time speaking in their language around staff who don't and its quite rude.
No chance of career progression, even though they lie to you and tell you there is.
You're expected to work long hours till late and start back first thing in the morning to do another 12 hour shift. Staff are always worn out and tired. Always. It was rare to see staff not sleeping on their breaks.
a fair share of customers are amazing, very understanding, however majority customers can be very rude, belittling, and hate when they want to do what they want and you tell them they cant. Theres systems in place to make sure customer journeys are put into place to give them the best experience, and to make sure they have all the information they need but most don't seem to care. It's very frustrating when customers talk over you when you try to explain how to order and they ignore you when you tell them the table number. When their food goes to the wrong table cause they make up a number then it all breaks loose, and when its extremely busy you don't have -
Pros
Free food, but it gets a bit sickening after a month having it day in and day out.
Cons
No social life. 12-15 hour shifts, loads of responsibilities with very little pay for the role.

Strange decisions, lack of communication
Supervisor (Former Employee) - Bromley - 4 June 2018
The most enjoyable part of the job is the people you get to work with, who will usually provide a fun work environment. However the work/life balance is hard to maintain with long and late hours. A lack of concern from management about hours, communication and training for progression limit enjoyment and make working there hard

fun but tiring
Supervisor (Former Employee) - London, Greater London - 9 January 2018
Good place to work if you get on well with team. Long shifts and late nights. Management not strict enough and holiday times rarely remembered. Not enough pay for the job as its extremely tiring, little/no tips and a lot of rude customers. Also hours aren't guaranteed so could work 37 hours one week and 22 the next. So to summarise, good and can be fun because of the other workers but other than that its not worth it.
Pros
free lunches (based on hours worked)
Cons
long hours, late nights, can be stressful

good experience and nice work place
Supervisor (Former Employee) - Liverpool Street Station, ENG - 17 July 2013
It was very busy restaurant, but I have got big experience, how to deal with costumers, I organized long shifts with short of people, sort it out all staff misunderstanding, was closing tills, cashing up money, closing at the end of the day hours, was checking dates, make sure that in restaurant all is done properly, was responsible ant attitude. The hardest part of the job, it was to listen customers complains and doing long shifts. The most enjoyable part of the job, to learn everyday more and more.
Pros
free lunches, good managenment
Cons
long hours (45-59per week)
