Why work for us?
We’re a unique organisation as we are the only integrated provider in the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire System. As well as providing acute care from the Great Western Hospital, we also run adult community services across Swindon and the local area.
We are extremely proud to have opened a new Urgent Treatment Centre and Energy Centre during the pandemic, and our partnership work has enabled us to bring radiotherapy to Swindon for the first time this year with a brand-new Radiotherapy Centre.
Our continuous search for improvements doesn’t stop there. We are also rolling out a new improvement methodology, which we call Improving Together, which supports and empowers staff to make real change on a daily basis.
With many exciting new developments, now is the perfect time to join us and take up the opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives.
Looking after you
An absolute priority for the organisation is the health and wellbeing of our staff.
Every member of staff has access to the Employee Assistance Programme, designed to provide free and confidential support to all of the Great Western family. We are thrilled that the Trust’s support services have been recognised at both a local and national level and have won a national Nursing Times Award.
We are focused on creating an organisation that is supportive and safe for all, regardless of background, ethnicity, gender or religion. We have recently launched our first-ever Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy, which looks ahead to the next five years and what we want to achieve.
We also have several active staff networks, such as the LGBTQ+ network, Differently Abled Network, and the BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic network), which seek to empower individuals and build a sense of community within the organisation.
Our location
Swindon is a growing, modern town enriched with Victorian parks and gardens and museums, including the award-winning Steam Museum - the museum of the Great Western Railway. The town is also within one hour’s train to London, Bristol, Bath and Oxford.
The hospital is conveniently placed on the outskirts of Swindon with excellent travel links. It is just five minutes from junction 15 of the M4, 75 miles from London and 35 miles from Bristol. It is in the midst of beautiful countryside, sitting at the foot of the Marlborough Downs and just south of the Cotswolds.
