Don't be fooled
Driver Rep (Former Employee) - Brighton - 10 November 2021
Don't be mislead by the job listing; this is a sales job for a double-glazing company, which goes under the name of First Home Improvements, not 'Green Energy'. Furthermore, both the job listing, as well as the interview that I attended, didn't disclose the fact that this job is self-employed and 100% commission-based. You will also not receive any help with fuel costs; on some days I was driving anywhere up to 4 hours. You will be expected to deliver an entire sales pitch, lasting a couple of hours inside somebody's home, with the sole aim of getting a hard-sell on the day; it is not merely a matter of measuring and surveying a few windows, as the job listing suggests. Customers are pressured into purchasing on the day by being delivered a standard 2-year quote, and then a ridiculously reduced quote which is only valid for the time that you're at the property. It is common knowledge among everyone within the company that the 2-year quotes are rarely ever taken up, so the whole process feels very dishonest. That said, the management was friendly and it was a nice tight-knit team to be a part of. If you know how to play a good salesperson and are willing to graft long hours, then there is potentially good money to be made in this role.
Pros
Friendly management, tight-knit team, good potential earnings
Cons
No work-life balance, 100% commission-based, dishonest nature of the job
