Bad environment with poor leadership
Team leader (Former Employee) - Towcester - 22 November 2023
The leadership in most greene king establishments are poor, giving supervisors management jobs with no reward or thanks. Most are toxic work places with rude managers and bad staff
Pros
50% on food while on shift 33% in all greene kings
Cons
Long hours, unfair pay, poor management

Fantastic leadership team genuinely passionate about people!
Project Manager (Current Employee) - Burton-On-Trent, Staffordshire - 21 November 2023
The teams have a great 'can do' culture that support each colleague. Greene King has embarked on major transformation with people and the customer at it's heart. It's doing all it can to focus on culture, work life balance, diversity and inclusion and growth. It's fun too with lot's of interventions to say thank-you for our hard work.
Pros
leadership support, flexibility, work life balance
Cons
be prepared to work really hard !

Incredible Culture
Retail Systems Trainer (Current Employee) - Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, Field Based - 21 November 2023
I work as part of the support centre at Burton-Upon-Trent but field based. My experience so far after working here for just over a year has been absolutely brilliant. the company culture allows you to be your self and is very inclusive. the teams are very supportive and the induction/training process is very good and thorough. you are encouraged to speak up if there are any issue's and hard work is recognised.
Pros
good discounts, great culture, progression
Cons
working remotely can get sometimes get lonely

Work life balance is non existent
General Manager (Former Employee) - Oxfordshire - 19 November 2023
Greene King could be a great company to work for, however work life balance is horrendous. I don’t think in my 2 years with the company that I had a weekend off because you always end up filling the gaps. Usually in the kitchen because staff are so hard to find in this area. The rota system they use means you have to get blood from a stone. Depending on what site you are at you could have 300 hours to use for 14k in sales or 300 hours for 26k. Which is just ridiculous. Constantly changing their minds on what direction the company is going in. (Labour percentage/unders overs etc). Then you have the marketing team that I don’t believe spend any time in pubs. You have 7 menus a kitchen has to produce meaning more work than needed. Fiddly plates that take one person in a kitchen too long to make which ends in KM’s not producing the quality that they could in a rush to get things out. BDM’s should be supportive but rarely are no praise when you do well(unless your a favourite) but will come down on you for the smallest mistake. The culture needs to change. Recruitment policy needs to change and they have to be more competitive both on salaries and work life balance. As a GM a 48 hour work week was never 48 hours. You end up not clocked in and doing 60 plus hours because you’re scared of going over hours. It’s not right. But they can get it right

Overall good
FOH Team Member (Former Employee) - Derby, Derbyshire - 15 November 2023
It's a great role, my manager was very kind and understanding. Not much progression or hours but it was a very good job overall. I enjoyed the job, just the customers can be a pain

Horrible place to work
Kitchen Assistant (Former Employee) - Preston, Lancashire - 11 November 2023
Training was almost nonexistent, never had any help and would be talked about behind my back for struggling when nobody would help. Hours and pay were not very good and overall a very nasty place to work.

Over worked
Chef (Current Employee) - Hartlepool, Durham - 9 November 2023
Constantly getting over worked for the pennies you earn, management don't care about wellbeing and only care about saving on labour, managers miserable as sin

Banging your head against the wall
Kitchen Manager (Current Employee) - Romford, Greater London - 9 November 2023
Very frustrating company to work for. Contain chopping and changing of upper management means that you cant build any type of relationship to move up the chain

Great for career expansion and progression
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - Gateshead, Tyne and Wear - 8 November 2023
Huge company so as you can expect sometimes you may feel like “just a number”. However, the management training programmes, team social platforms and management structure allows easy access to new opportunities and progression. Hospitality is an amazing industry to work in, but only with the right people around you. The GMs need to be managed better from the BDMs to allow the team to thrive. This was the downfall in my GK career as higher managers overestimated GMs ability for years.

It was great but it’s gone downhill
Team Leader (Former Employee) - Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire - 6 November 2023
Used to be good, but not so much anymore. Minimum wage while expected to work beyond your hours and responsibilities constantly without any compensation.

Hard work but rewarding
House Manager (Former Employee) - Bedfordshire - 5 November 2023
Experience entirely dependent on manager - if well supported can be amazing, if not, makes the job ten times harder. Tends to be a lot of churn and restructuring so you never really know how long a good thing will last!

No substance
HR Administrator (Former Employee) - Remote - 4 November 2023
No room for progression within the company. There was a culture of nepotism where promotions were offered to staff based on who they were friends with
