I wouldn't recommend working for this company.

Indeed featured review

I wouldn't recommend working for this company. The pay is low for the job you do and there isn't any progression. Arrived on the first day and wasn't told what I was doing, I had to ask several times. I was told I was going to have a one week induction which didn't really happen I was just given online training to do. I was not given much support from management just expected to get on with it. Staff gossip about residents all the time and it is a very negative environment to be in if I am really honest. I went into the job to help people and make a difference and felt like my efforts and progress was not even noticed, like nothing was good enough. If you want to be a family support worker, I would not recommend this company. Despite everything I have said, the staff were very lovely and supportive and it was a good team overall.

Pros

Staff were very friendly and supportive.

Cons

Low Pay, not much support.

Salary not competitive

After working for DH for over three years was then taken over by GSA and worked for those 2 years. A job I once loved then became tolerable. In relation to other care companies I have worked for it definitely is not the best but far from the worst. I feel there is failings like anywhere else but from what I saw was acted upon. My personal experience I always felt very supported but I am aware of lots of people with different views. All in all it is not a bad company to work for. I found that even if a manager I wanted to speak to wasn’t available there was someone else I was confident in going to. But again I know lots of people with different experiences. The company is so far off the mark with salary it is unbelievable! I have personally moved on for financial reasons. On a lot more money better work life balance and the work load is around the same. In regards to progression there is also little to none. I did manage to change jobs within the company but was promised courses which I never received. Another reason I moved on.

Profit before people

Not enough time with clients, no support whatsoever from bosses or oncall, no spot checks, no reviews, no help, never leave you alone when off. Work you into the ground.

Avoid

Been there a short time . Company is always short staffed and as a result working environment is stressful. Management know this yet do nothing about it. Training and support is very poor . Money is rubbish for the work load. Plus side the residents are lovely

Great customers, poor everything else

I took this job thinking that working in the care sector I’d be working with caring people. Management are very unsupportive and expect us to put up with abuse and say that “that’s just care” and when you speak to them about how you’re feeling they basically tell you to just suck it up. The customers are great and the actual job description is easy work, however everything you are expected to do on top of it plus the culture that starts with management are not worth it! No job progression and no incentives. Overtime is expected from you and if you don’t do it then expect to get talked about! Confidentiality doesn’t exist and it’s like a school yard for gossip. Stay away, the job description is a fib! Night staff only get paid 20p more an hour than the day staff and there is no enhanced rate for overtime or weekends. The place I worked for lost 4 staff in just as many months due to bad management and staff that are allowed to think they are management. If your face doesn’t fit, you might as well have a target on your back

Wouldn't bother

I've worked for this company many years, we've had four mangers in fours years, with two resigning. The home when I first started was amazing, but due to new management all the reliable staff have left.Company is always short staffed and as a result working environment is stressful. Management know this yet do nothing about it. Agency we have in, majority have never done care before, so it ends up being twice the work load. Money is rubbish for the work load. You get treated as if you are easily replaced and your contribution means nothing . Really looking forward to leaving this company.

Poor

Management is poor staff are treated horrible, medication running low and no one doing nothing about it, unappreciated, if you didn’t answer your work phone they would call your personal phone or even Facebook

Stressful, unhealthy culture

Managers do not understand the job you do, often having no experience of the role or Housing in general. Everything delegated downwards until work pressure becomes impossible. Existing staff all at the bottom of the pay band, whilst new starters, some with no experience come in on higher salaries. All in all a really toxic environment. Is anyone asking why there has been a 100% staff turnover in my team in the last 12 months?

Great job but wish there was more investment in staff

Great job, great management but wish there was more investment in staff. Very few training opportunities or progression. They do offer great flexibility and allow for a good work/life balance.

Pros

Supportive management, good work/life balance, flexible working

Cons

No training opportunities

Poor company. Wages the main concern as it’s a minimum wage job. No union and management totally disregard employees ideas and suggestions. No progression unless your face fits.

Stressful

Management do not care about their staff or clients, the company is so unorganised, hours changed last minute without being informed. Expected to rush calls in order to fit in all the work hours given.

Stressful

The teams are amazing and I worked with some wonderful people, and it stops there. A very much us and them situation, managers have no people skills and no formal managing experience, and it shows. The work expected of a job role is equivalent to 3 roles due to having to complete others work that have left due to the culture, and that makes life very stressful, told to suck it up and get on with it. It’s such a shame as the people are lovely and really want to do what’s best for the tenants but everything is an obstacle when it comes to management.

Pros

Free parking Good salary

Cons

Micromanaging

I have recently quit you have no training team you have no communication through the different departments, customers do not get a good service, as you can’t rely on anyone picking up queries, no one ever answers you are overworked, so if someone quits you have to pick there job role up no thanks just do. Even if you are not qualified, no knowledge from managers, no people’s skills - if you are ill they tell you to man up! vague guidance is given. Because management don’t know! People then try making you do jobs that’s not within your role, and when addressed there are no answers. Never work here.they don’t listen to you they are rude and unfair!

Pros

They have free parking

Cons

Everything Overworked, ignored, no training

Difficult company to work for

the company since i started has changed so much. Tenants are not listened too, management dont care, all the abuse gets thown at customer service who leave after a couple of months when they realise they dont get paid enough and leave for another call centre or rather be unemployed.Everyday is a challange to work for the company and the best time of the day is when you leave for the day or the weekend but it all starts again on the monday. This goes for most of the customer focus departments of the company, most managers get paid way too much for doing nothing and there are loads of middle management position who leave when their managers leave and they have to take over on a temp position.

Pros

No Weekends, Bank holidays/christmas

Cons

poor pay, management dont care, company doesnt care

Avoid!

I wouldn’t even bother applying! I started with an agency and became permanent staff for security but you are under appreciated, no support from management, expected to do senior job for carer wage. You can’t phone seniors for advice even if they’re on shift and if you do the response you get is ‘I don’t no what to suggest’ but it’s okay for office staff to phone your personal phones on your 1 day off even though you get given a work phone. If you raise a concern it’s brushed under the carpet and then they turn it round to be your fault. Expected to walk and do community calls (when you don’t drive) with very little travel time in the pouring down rain, walking from one end of stoke to the other without been asked before. If you question this you just get told ‘it’s your job and it’s in your contract’ this job will not help your mental health, west end village also don’t care about mental health and don’t offer any support. No staff are happy there and turn over of staff is terrible.

Pros

Contracted hours

Cons

List is endless
