Management is a joke at Greggs if you haven’t been there a while then don’t expect to feel welcome they treat you like nothing and they expect you to be perfect staff talk behind your back and belittle you in any way and criticise everything manager has their favourites who just sit in the back chatting whilst you’re left alone on til doing all the hard work and only a 15 min break every 4 hours not worth it at all pay is okay but don’t expect to move up there’s no room for progression staff literally swear at you and call you dumb even though your only just training AVOID
Pros
Staff discount
Cons
Management, long hours

This was the first place I worked and I loved it. It’s fast paced at moments but it’s not too stressful. Lots of chances to pick up extra shifts. The manager and supervisors in my store were lovely. They made me feel so comfortable and helped me with my training.
Pros
Free hot drinks on shift, 50% off staff discount, great breaks, management is lovely and other staff are friendly.
Cons
Quite fast paced.

I worked here for a very long time. At first it was great, a real family feeling and great benefits. Then it went downhill, long work hours with unsociable start times and hard to reach targets. I noticed a bullying culture was beginning to take over within the shops and fell victim to it, eventually being assaulted at work by a colleague and being forced to leave my own shop and the company. I didn’t feel supported, just abandoned and made to feel unwelcome
Pros
Good discount, decent pension
Cons
Bullying and unsociable work hours and shifts

I have been with Greggs a VERY LONG TIME and it is not the same now - It is no longer a company that values the staff.... Area Managers are not supportive only busy looking to sack people to save the company money.
Pros
Pay
Cons
Area Managers

Whilst we keep high standards each shop is like a little family and due to the nature of the work you work closely with other shops in your area. You never know what willHappen one day to the next.
Pros
50% discount, good holiday allowance, yearly profit share
Cons
Very early starts in some shops. Not always enough staff on at the right times.

I had worked at Greggs for nearly 10 years, starting off as a team member and working my way up to senior sales. It was a very good job to begin with and I’ll be honest and say I thoroughly enjoyed it, however over the years the company changed drastically. It started with staff shortages. When I first started working there you could have up to four members of staff throughout the entire day, sometimes even five (over dinner time) depending on how busy the shop you worked in was, this then dropped over the years to two members of staff. So this meant that you were then expected to work above and beyond and do the job of two people simultaneously. On the morning shift you were expected to set up the shop and make the sandwiches with only two members of staff. Over dinner time you would have big queues, sandwiches that needed stocking, condiment stands that required regular cleaning and refills of condiments, refilling cakes and the baking of pasties, all of which was expected to be complete on two members of staff - sometimes three - however the Rota would always put staff on a thirty minute break during this time (which at times was impossible to have). The closes again was on reduced staff so you was expected to clean the shop, restocked merchandise and have the shop closed down and ready again for the next working day. You would go in earlier unpaid and finish after your finish times most days as it is really difficult to complete what is expected of you.If this was not hard enough you also had mystery customers who would come and visit the shop and rate you on speed - more...
Pros
Profit shares, staff discount
Cons
No appreciation from higher managers, you are just a number.

They do not care about their staff. Its all about the money. They have policies in place that are unfair and are harmfully strict on discipline. At Team member level you are just a number in the system and they can and possibly will replace you.

Same as can be excepted in a big company it isn’t very personal but it’s a good wage for the work you have to do it’s all dependent on which manager you get tbf

I had a serious accident and the manager didn’t report it and denied it happened. I had a torn hamstring as a result of water on the floor. We were constantly too busy and not enough time to carry out tasks safely

I worked here while at university and really loved it. Struggled to get things done as fast as they wanted but that's just retail for you. I had a great manager and felt supported and was never asked to do shifts that conflicted with my classes.
Pros
Discount, early starts
Cons
Rude customers
