It's was a fast paced environment, but it was very fun to work at. Also very flexible hours and gives plenty of experience for workers who are just beginning their working life

Fun to work and nice managers
Team Member (Current Employee) - South Ayrshire - 6 December 2023
Never burnt out or overworked and managers are willing to work around your schedule. The people at Greggs make you feel welcome on your first day which helps with any anxiety from new members.

Not bad
Manager (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 4 December 2023
The staff make the job. Have good staff who get the job done but also have great personality Helps make working with minimal staff enjoyable. A lot of pressure to meet targets

More and more expected from you with diminishing returns
Senior Team Member (Current Employee) - Leeds - 4 December 2023
When I started out in 2015 this was a great company to work for, however I cannot say the same 8 years on for the following reasons: -There is more and more expected from you in terms of workload with very few rewards for actually doing so. You're just expected to deal with it because its part of your job/ role. -The salary, while better than some places probably are is still pretty bad in my opinion when compared against the amount of work you have to do. As a senior team member, I am expected to do nearly all of the same work that the shop manager does for a mere 50-60p more than what the normal team members get. -As a result of the above two points I have found myself becoming stressed on a nearly daily basis which has not helped my mental or physical health as my blood pressure has taken a hit and I am not sleeping well at all these days. The staff that you work with WILL make or break your experience at Greggs should you decide to join them, I am lucky in that (most of) the staff that I work with are genuinely nice people who I always have a laugh with and can talk to about most things without fear of it being spread or told to people that I don't want to know about it. The main issue I have with Greggs as a company at this point in time is their insistance upon the "customer is always right" mantra. The vast majority of customers I server are very nice and friendly (there's even a few regulars who I am on a first name basis with) however for every two or three nice customers there is a swathe of rude customers that take their places. I have had an instance where -
Pros
profit share, decent salary compared to other places
Cons
long working hours, no set shift patterns, very early starts compared to other places

Productive
Team Member (Current Employee) - Portsmouth, Hampshire - 4 December 2023
Not a bad place to work, I enjoy it sometimes, but other days can be stressful when busy and sometimes management can be pushy, but you do meet new people, either people you work with or customers. Overall, not a bad place to work

Toxic
Team Member (Current Employee) - Bexleyheath - 4 December 2023
Managers overwork you, expected to do whatever hours are given to you, even when busy. Lack of free food, only benefit is a colleague discount. Inconsistent deliveries makes working difficult.

Good First Job

Mundane and shows its true colours after a while
Team Member (Current Employee) - Exeter - 3 December 2023
When I first started, I was so happy with the job, but the constant 5 AMs made me very sick because as a student, I was barely able to get any sleep. They extended my probation by a whole month, constantly telling me that they wouldn't be bale to "sign me off". The manager suddenly started putting me on 1.5 times the agreed upon hours and expected me to be okay with it, wouldn't let me call in sick on days I had exams even. Genuinely turned into a nightmare situation overnight. Strongly contemplating quitting my job now.

Good
Team Member - Part Time (Former Employee) - Bristol - 2 December 2023
good place to work part time as student staff were friendly and would always be willing to teach you if you didn't know something Was responsible for serving customers and cooking the food so had to multitask and have full focus and awareness whilst working

Was decent but gone downhill
Warehouse Operative (Current Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 28 November 2023
Greggs was a good place to work when I first started there but the company has gone downhill in the last few years. The pay hasn't really increased with inflation and the hours are unsociable. Management isn't great there's a lot favouritism and one rule for one and another rule for someone else. No real feelings of accomplishment after finishing a shift as the job is very mundane and repetitive.

Good job
Team Member (Current Employee) - Kingston upon Hull - 25 November 2023
You are involved in a lot of different stuff whether it be baking, making sandwiches, serving customers, bagging up products in the back area. I currently start work at 5am. You occasionally do course training on the computer which you are paid for. We start with setting up the shop which is done in 30 minutes and then we open the shop.
Pros
Generous discount
Cons
None

There are space to get promoted but not much in the salary
Shop Supervisor (Current Employee) - Bedfordshire - 23 November 2023
There are space to get promoted but not much in the salary. Depends on different shops, you get chances to help out other shops which means more money but overall, all shop are short on staff sometimes, which leads to overwork. Btw they do pay you for the break conditionally.

Great management and great mental health support
Team Member (Current Employee) - Chippenham, Wiltshire - 22 November 2023
As a Team member my job is mainly to serve the customers and baking. In our store the management is amazing, they always help me through problems. Sorting out holidays is very easy. Colleagues are very kind and fun to work with. The hardest part of the job is when we get a lot of customers suddenly and the ovens get full, the products take longer to bake so sometimes it’s hard to let the customer know how long the new batch will take. Queues can appear in seconds out of nowhere because our shop is small. So far this is the best place I have worked at out of the 4 jobs I had so far. When I had a hard time with a customer, everyone was there to support me.
Pros
50% staff discount, easy holiday booking, helpful staff, fun work environment
Cons
Sudden queues, breakfast hours can be tough

It was alright
Team Member (Former Employee) - Leicester, Leicestershire - 22 November 2023
Very fast paced at times. You get loads of busy periods especially during mornings or lunch time as people are free. Not much progress on the role was offered.
