Lorry Driver Class 1 (Former Employee) - Magor, Monmouthshire - 13 November 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedSome staff are very good. A lot of handball. Not always giving you clear instructions. People are very friendly. A bad toilet, not too clean and comfortable (yes, some time it is impontant for drivers)

Do not work here !!
HGV Class 1 Driver (Current Employee) - Whitland, Carmarthenshire - 26 November 2023
Wages are always wrong, management haven’t got a clue what they’re doing ! They hire people who have no relevant experience just so they have a fall guy to blame stuff on after not giving any proper training, they don’t train drivers and send them out after 1 day and then discipline for doing Somthing wrong ! Can’t get in touch with anyone anytime to discuss important matters ! Honestly the worst place to work in history. Avoid at all costs.

Very Welcoming and Supportive
Transport Operations Supervisor (Former Employee) - Shepton Mallet, Somerset - 1 November 2023
Very busy on the operations side possibly a little understaffed and would benefit from 2 operators as well as the general administrators would be my only advice. Friendly people all round and always willing to help each other. Drivers can play the game and would benefit from some training when refusing to do what is actually a simple and safe manoeuvre and yes I can also drive so can do their job. The yard guys were amazing and cheerful despite their own issues ongoing regarding pay. The offices didn’t have heating when I worked there and were expected to get your own heater ?! Overall a nice office environment
Pros
Good hours
Cons
Need more staff for certain job roles

Would never return of advise anyone to work for GDL
Transport Planner/Back load coordinator (Former Employee) - Not prepared - 29 September 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? With consideration given that this company operates a sizable fleet, it is run in an unprofessional manner!! 'Dead wood' promoted within and recent attempts to inject external management has failed dismally!!! Top heavy ineffective management that dampen down operations and heavily restrict growth from within. Avoid - Avoid What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Sheer ignorance and lack of understanding!!! Each depot works independently and has no interest in integration!! What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Rubbish - staff seriously lack moral What is a typical day like for you at the company? Sooner forget it and caused me untold unnecessary stress!!

Great on tankers. Other contracts may be different
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Cullompton - 30 August 2023
Worked on Tanker side of things, kind of separate from the company as a whole. Small separate depot where everyone knows each other and helps each other. Can't complain. Wages were pretty good.
Pros
teamwork
Cons
Long Hours (but thats haulage though)

Good company
Class C+E HGV driver (Current Employee) - Bridgwater, Somerset - 23 August 2023
I have worked at 3 different depots and was treated well at all three. at my current one, I have no issues to complain about, i like the job, the work isn't massively hard, management is approachable and helpful as much as possible, planners and office don't push you to run more than contracted hrs each day, pay isn't the best but isn't awful and any rare mistakes in wages are rectified the following week. my only complaints are my personals preferences which can't be met with the nature of our work.

Long hours

If you want maximum hours go for it, have to keep ringing up for start times daily overall not a well organised place to work, Start times vary day to day

Awful
HGV Driver class 2 (Former Employee) - Cullompton, Devon - 28 July 2023
Toxic environment, poor leadership and direction from office, pushed to the max every day. Place has too much going on dangerous yard. You're just number here

Not for me
HGV Driver (Former Employee) - Cullompton, Devon - 25 July 2023
Not somewhere I would recommend, poor management and lack of teamwork across certain departments. Pay is not reflected to the hard work you are expected to do.

Good Job
Tanker Driver (Current Employee) - Davidstow, Cornwall - 23 July 2023
Easy job, job and knock but paid overtime which is very nice. Company does listen to what drivers want with regards to a shift pattern change. Very well organised apprenticeship scheme. Shame you have to pay for CPC when you leave which I think is very tight.

Not everyone's cup of tea
HGV Driver (Current Employee) - Southampton, Hampshire - 11 July 2023
Great company to work for, although hours aren't for everyone (00:30am-2:45am start). Fixed salary, overtime paid above 48 hours after deduction of 45mins break every day worked. Multidrop deliveries mostly. Not hard work, only the start times are killer.

Fast-paced but relaxed environment
Fleet Advisor (Current Employee) - Cullompton, Devon - 8 June 2023
Very nervous about leaving my previous employment where I knew the people + the role inside and out, but Ted put me at ease from the moment I walked into the office. There is a lot to learn in my new role, but the team are very helpful and supportive - while everyone is busy and has a lot to sort within a working day, they are also very down to earth & you can have a laugh and a joke with everyone too. Your working days go by very quickly.
Pros
Hybrid working
Cons
None

A very date culture
General Manager (Former Employee) - Basingstoke, Hampshire - 19 April 2023
Whilst the perception of this business is of a modern, thriving, innovative and forward thinking business the leadership and over all culture is very dated and one in which only a very few people are allowed to make the decisions.
Pros
Not many
