Great career
Police Constable (Former Employee) - Cwmbran - 5 June 2021
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI always wanted to be a Police Officer. The job is what I expected and more. No two days the same and I got to do what you can’t do in any other job. I experienced highs and lows in similar degree and I would do it all again.
Pros
This job is special and like no other.
Cons
Sometimes you have to see things through to the end and don’t know what time you will finish duty

Fulfilling, sense of achievement and pride in being selected to carry out the duties of public office.
Detective Inspector (Former Employee) - Retired. - 29 November 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Staff Support, development & Camaraderie. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? As a senior Detective it would be the long hours and never ending scrutinisation. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Sometimes great and sometimes dreadful. What is a typical day like for you at the company? It depends on the role and expectation. It would mostly be a long day (or days) mostly operating under stressful conditions due to the nature of the job. On the positive side, there is great camaraderie and humour to help ease the pressures.

Shambles
Police Officer (Former Employee) - Torfaen - 26 September 2022
Management are useless and out for themselves. No support whatsoever. Constantly staying late on shift, no appreciation. Low morale everywhere. Training is good and colleagues are good/hardworking people but the management lets the company down, all the way to the top.

Some Management need lesons in dealing with people
Learning & Development Administrator (Former Employee) - Cwmbran, Monmouthshire - 27 August 2021
Management need to be reviewed, quite rude and not very professional. Interview went really well. But some management need to have lessons in dealing with people.
Pros
Varied work and always busy
Cons
Management

Poor management, too many chiefs not enough indians.
Police Officer (Former Employee) - Gwent - 29 October 2020
A chief constable who tells the public the same thing over and over again or how they care, but makes no positive changes. Increases officer workloads and is out of touch with boots on the ground. Working too hard on their own public image rather than the image of Gwent police. Dismissing Police officers constantly with a punitive punishment rather than the right punishment. They have wore a mask for to long and are sadly now so used to wearing it they have disguised themselves to themselves. Managment is poor, there are some wonderful higher ranks but sgts, insepectors and chief inspectors sadly are a majority of "in it for myself" attitude. Even when you try and attend courses or attachments to improve skills. Your told no as its some Inspector's view you should be at least 2 years in before having ONE day with a traffic unit or CID. The bad are promoted and the good are scolded by the bad promoted. The force is at breaking point, morale is low. Unsupported many looking for new jobs. 19 police officers have left Monmouthshire.. for other areas... other police forces or just regisned due to the force being so poorly managed. Professional standards are a law to themselves and are out to achieve results rather then prktevt officers from public complaints. Go to South Wales or Dyfed powys.
Pros
Good team mates, diverse range of calls good opportunity's
Cons
Unsupported a chief who cares more about her own image then officers, pay is not great. Lone working. Someone will end up dead soon.

Great work and life experience
MOSOVO (Former Employee) - Croesyceiliog South ED - 18 June 2020
No one can ever say that they enjoyed all of their work all of the time and that is true of my time as a Police Officer which I did for 30 years it can be a stressful environment but also rewarding and necessary
Working as part of a team is essential and over my service I fulfilled a variety of roles learning something new every day. I would not change anything about my time with West Mercia and Gwent Police Services because the experience made me the strong positive person I am today
Pros
Friends for life
Cons
Management

Thoroughly enjoyed my 26 years
Detective constable (Current Employee) - Cwmbran - 2 June 2020
Tough job requires a lot of self belief and immense courage at times. It will test all of your life skills so do not apply to young as you will not last. The rewards are still there just not in the way I would see them with 26 years behind me.

Crime Prevention and Working as a Team
Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) - Cwmbran - 23 May 2020
Crime prevention is paramount within the force and is an extremely important value that both officers and staff hold. The force is all about working as a team and providing each other with support which anyone would want in a job. It is so enjoyable to meet new people on a day-to-day basis and to learn new things about the force and the job roles it entails.

I can't just write but think first.
Interpreter and Translator (Current Employee) - Cardiff, Cardiff - 17 November 2019
I need more time to think and write accurately what is needed. I do not have precise thoughts towards this at the moment but I promise to get in touch whenever it is right to do so.

I worked for Gwent Police for 20yrs, during which the standard of management has decreased to a poor level
I would not recomend working for Gwent Police, because there are insufficient numbers of officers, the new pay scale is not sufficient, and the people being promoted into senior positions are inept.

Demanding and diverse.
Police Constable. Front line response officer. (Former Employee) - Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent - 18 June 2019
Front line policing is very demanding and diverse, no two days are the same. Officers have a high workload which is difficult to balance with the every day new challenges each day brings.

Bullying environment
Communications Operator (Current Employee) - Head office - 21 January 2018
What can I say, the pay is good. That's about it on the positives, the culture is one of bullying, poor management, inconsistent training, terrible communication. I've worked in the private sector all my life and every organisation has been proactive to stamp all over bullying. In Gwent police they turn a blind eye or management cover for each other. Friends and family in senior roles bump each other up the ladder, so career progression is non existent. Avoid like the plague, I'll be leaving ASAP
Pros
The pay
Cons
Poor management

I worked as an admin assistant for a short time over the millenium. Staff were friendly and the job was enjoyable. Whilst atttempts were made to extend my contract this wasn't possible.

Great Staff to work with, lack of trust in senior managment
Police Constable (Current Employee) - Newport County - 18 May 2017
Working in Gwent police is an enjoyable experience. This is mainly due to the colleagues you work along side and protecting each other every day.
The days can be long and difficult depending on what incidents you've attended throughout the day.
Middle management seem to be well trusted, but senior management seem to have a lack of trust from officers
Pros
Every day is different
Cons
Work/ Life balance, shift work
