Service Manager in Manea, Cambridgeshire
on 7 January 2023
Can only get better
I’ve been with the company for 3 years now. It wasn’t the best start but I continued to muddle through as I had a genuine passion for the role. Luckily in October 2020 we had a new manager who completely changed the place around, including culture and matched kids to the home that was actually right for the home! Since then there’s been a lot of progression internally for both staff and young people. Some come and go. What I like about this place is that we are heavy on reflection. Not everything will be perfect, and there will be mistakes made but we learn from it and continue to grow. It’s not a job that’s always easy. You’ve got days that can be and you are literally paid to watch tv or go on activities. Other days can be quite busy and overwhelming but with a good team it’s the nature of the job. It’s not a job for the weak who just want to be on their phones and not actually spend time with the kids and engage. The training is good, and continues to improve as you progress in the job. Since the progression of my own manager who is now the operations manager, I have recently become the service manager for the home. Whilst I am still completely learning on the role, I anticipate some bumpy rides but will only make me learn and develop into the job role. The best thing is the original manager still supports if and when I need it, and I’m left to it which shows trust and that I can learn efficiently rather than everything being done for me. We have recently opened up two more homes in Cambridgeshire which is exciting to see. There’s a good team here. There hasn’t been much staff turn over up until recently but again I say if the job isn’t for you, it isn’t. The days can be long and tiring, but also can be super fun and rewarding for the young people we have. That’s what the job is about, rewarding.

Good start. I like it
I have recently started working in for Heartwood with.I really like it so far. Whist it is not perfect it seems to be different than most places.I think most of this is down to the good manager I have as well as the great area manager with have. Seems to be a place were you are supported by the staff team and the managers.I hear London is less good but we have nothing to do with that. They are opening new homes in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. If you want a good place to work you should come.I like all of the people so far. I get the impression they don't tolerat bad people

I highly recommend.
I have worked with Heartwood Care Ltd for some time now. This residential care home has a lot of benefits and has some cons- however, this house has a very strong management team, who pulls together to support the staff that work here. This home is very different to all the other care homes i have worked at, and i feel that they have reassured me that although this is at times challenging, due to the nature of the home, it is very rewarding. The staff team here are very young people centred and work together very well. The management is supportive and will always step in to help. This home has come along way, and will only ever get better. Being a support worker in residential care, can be hard, tiring, stressful and challenging, however this is the nature of the job, not just the home. If you are looking for a job, and as a person you feel you can make a difference to the young people, this is the place to start. The structure of the home, and how it is managed and run by the staff team, is positive. They go the extra mile, for each other, and for the young people. I recommend the company and this house entirely. I have only been to the other homes a few times- but the houses are apart in locations, and the expectations in this home in Manea seems higher, due to the work and dedication from its staff team, and how we help these young people. The hours are long, but it does go quickly due to the quick pace of the day. Do not let this put you off- it is more rewarding than you know. If you are looking for a residential home to sit, and do nothing- this is not the place to be, as this job role and home, only wants the succession and progression for the young people, and this will not happen if people think they can just sit down or be on their mobiles. There is a very strong manager here- and they will help your own development and progression. (This is somewhat rare in my experience)
