Carer (Current Employee) - Truro, Cornwall - 29 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedIt's was ok been at the company for years, but feel more like a number and under valued as a member of the team, due to being unable to progress even though I was told after the interview I have great knowledge.

Loved it
Visiting carer (Former Employee) - Various - 28 September 2023
Loved working for helping hands, amazing staff in office and other carers. Fascinating customers. Was heartbroken that I had to leave to pursue a residential job

Got offered a job here after another company closed and within 4 weeks had to leave as little hours were offered. Would not apply to this company again

Helping Hands live in carer.
Live-in Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Clients residence. - 19 May 2023
Throughout my time working for Helping Hands I would say it was a good work life balance. The pay was okay. There were other care companies out there that offered alot more which, when I realised I moved companies.
Pros
Good work life balance.
Cons
Not enough support from management. There are care companies that offer more money.

Awful management
Live in carer (Former Employee) - North West - 22 May 2022
You are asked to go to placements last minute and then sent half way across the country to a placement you know nothing about. Contacting a manager is like contacting the priminister you will never hear a reply. The pay is awful u are only paid for 8 hours when you are there for 24 and work around 14 on average a day. When its your time to go on holidays they fan never find a replacement carer and are always having to stay longer at the placement which means cancelling plans , missing flights and appointments
Pros
Customers are a delight to work with but not the company
Cons
Awful management and awful coordinators

Poorly Supported, stressful job
Live-in Carer (Former Employee) - Reading - 24 August 2020
Helping Hands had the potential to be a good experience, but fails to meet the mark.
The interview process and training week were actually excellent and initially I was really looking forward to the job. I made some good friends during the training, who I still talk to years later.
I expressed interest when starting in live in care stints no longer than 2-3 weeks. I am young and went to England to be close to unwell family and good friends, so 2/3 weeks on, one off was my ideal.
I got placed almost immediately but on arrival is is when I first noticed communication struggles. The family of the lady I cared for were expecting a more static carer- her previous was a much older lady with grown children of her own and as such was happy to work for several months running, without days off. Noting that you're not allowed to really make friends in the area you work, constant days for multiple weeks are really intense.
Following this, I many times agreed to a 5/6 week run. The lady I cared for had quite advanced learning needs and didn't understand or would sometimes 'punish' me for taking breaks.
I cannot fault my service users family- her sister was excellent and without her support and communication I certainly wouldn't have lasted a year.
Helping Hands however were at fault as soon as the interview process was over. When starting a placement, contract requires you have a support visit the day of, I believe a week later and then every month following. The care manual at my placement was roughly a year out of date, so I actually rewrote mine with assistance from -
Cons
Infrequent Support visits
