As a self-employed courier, you drive your own vehicle and are responsible for your own vehicle costs and other costs associated with providing services to Hermes. You can choose between becoming a Lifestyle Courier or an SE+ Courier which have different benefits, you'll be given information on both options as part of the application process.

  • Yes you pay your own fuel, but also a lot of people fail to realise the how high the vehicle maintenance costs are. Dont forget that you are constantly stop starting, you find yourself going up and down kerbs and a lot of time on backstreets going over potholes and speedbumps. The wear and tear on you car is huge be prepared for regular trips to the mechanic for starter motors, clutches, brakepads etc. Id say you should budget around £3-5 per day on top of your fuel. Dont forget you will also need enhanced insurance cover, and be prepared for the occaisional knock as you are constantly backing in and out of tight spaces and always in an extreme hurry to hit targets.
