Friendly co workers

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Company tries many different schemes to boost morale but fails to realise a decent pay would work wonders and stop staff from leaving for better local companies, though recently it doesn't seem to care about losing staff. Also targets at times can be unreachable as it is heavy work.

Pros

Permanent dayshift, 4 day week

Cons

Low wage, no real chance of career advancement

Toxic culture

Not the best culture to be working in, some lovely people to work with some not so nice people to work with.Unrealistic KPI’s with little to no help from management

I wouldnt recommend.

I worked in the metal venetian dep't at Hillarys. The hours were fine but they were long days! The job itself is boring once you know what you're doing and they expect a lot of work out of you for the money you get! Also if they find you hate a certain task they will take you for a conplete mug and put you on that task at any given time. It got to the point where I kicked off with them. There is a lot of favouritism and a lot of family and friends there which doesn't help on the favouritism part. There is no room for progression unless you're a friend, family or favourite. There is overtime almost all the time but there is no work life balance at all. Basically Blinds are life. In the end I never ever did overtime because I couldn't bare to be there any longer than I had to be there. On the whole leaving there is probably one of the best things I've ever done.

Cons

Long days, Management are a joke, pay, repetitive, boring, no progression.

Fun Busy place to work

I have learned a lot from my current job as I had very little office experience. I am now confident at what I do and although sometimes it is fast paced we are work as a team and get the job done.

Pros

free blind, summer fayre and great christmas parties

Cons

Pay could be better

productive fast paced and stressful

In this job i go to work and make blinds for 8 hours a have breaks in between but you get told off for talking to people and when you try to help others you get told to get back on your job. the environment is negative its like you are out for yourself and you have to just constantly work work work. management could be looked at as you get away with things if your face fits. there is no enjoyable part of the job you have to work to strict targets and the staff aren't all as they seem with regard to being all nice to your face then your back is turned. what i will say is that if your someone who is looking for a job and full time hours then yeah id suggest you apply. 39 hours a week full time is good, and you get 2 weeks off at Christmas.

Hillarys no

Don't work here find another place to work its not worth, it you stand all day, you can not talk. While the pay is fairly OK, the only good thing is that you work no weekends

Friendly place to work.

I worked as a packer and the target was twenty eight blinds a minute which was possible as long as the line you were working on kept up to speed. After clocking in the first job was to assemble all parts required to be place inside the blinds and to make sure there was enough for the day then as soon as the line started up producing your target commenced.

Pros

Team meeting every Wednesday.

Cons

Sometimes overtime was compulsary.

Terrible place

Only good thing about working for hillarys is the shift, if your related to management or "in" with management you can do more or less what ever you like if not then your expected you work like a robot for 6p more than minimum wage with no chance of any kind of promotion. The work its self isn't really hard but when you see other people standing around noting nothing and your working to target its very annoying. Management well if that's what you want to call them havnt really got a clue what they are doing. Your person business is disgusted on the factory floor for everyone to hear. Breaks are good but that's about it.

Pros

Shifts, Breaks, works easy

Cons

Just about everything.

Productive, dull place

Worked along side hillarys for 3 year, at first it was a job everyone enjoyed. Everyone was looking forward to coming into work but now it's turned into a military camp. You can't go to the toilet without getting permission. The daily targets keep going up and up, the employers is way to hard and looks down on the employees. The management think because they are higher then the workers they have the right to speak to people like they have just stood on them

Pros

Half day friday

Cons

Deadend jobs

A typical day at hilliarys i started at 8am til 5pm on a weekend. I worked on a production line and had to measure and make the blinds to the customers order. The management was easy to approach.

Productive

When I started work I would normally go on the hoist making wash wood blinds or I would get put on picking. The hoist involved making blinds to a high quality and quantity to meet the expectations of the company's high standards. Picking involved feeding the cells with blinds which was an important job because you had to work very fast and if u didn't fill the cells fast enough people on the hoist would be standing about waiting for work and this would slowdown production. What I learned working at Hillarys blinds is how to work on a production line meeting the expectations of the company witch involved hitting targets, quality, quantity and lots more. We also used to have a team brief twice a week witch involved how many blinds we had made so far in the week and the back log witch is how many blinds the company has taking in for order. The hardest part of the job was hitting the high target the company expected because most of the blinds needed to be fixed e.g. damaged head rail, stretched ladders, dirty tapes, faulty cord lock, and lots more. This would slow down production but some days you would get no damaged blinds and hit target and other days most of the blinds would be damaged so what you had to do when this occurred is write the time down you have spent fixing the blind and what the damage was. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting recognised for your hard work so since I made blinds to a high quality the people on FQC fine quality check used to ask if I would make the blinds as they would not come back of the customer.

Pros

Free blind once a year and a bonus at christmas

productive

I enjoyed working at Hillarys and wish my experience could of been extended. It was a hard job but when my shift was over I was proud of my self to hit all targets what was set for me. I also loved the pat I was receiving as I could pay for all my essentials throughout the week.

Hardworking work place

Very hardworking but pushes you to meet your hourly target.

Pros

Long lunch breaks, friendly collegues

Cons

High targets to meet

Always busy and a friendly work team.

Each day was different as new issues would come up daily. I learnt a lot about the UK Legislation and how to react with people in different situations. Co-workers are friendly and helpful. The hardest part of the job was time as there was never enough time in the day to complete all tasks. The most rewarding and enjoyable part of the job was when you helped people and made their situations easier.

Pros

Location was near to where I live.

Cons

None
