Good place to work with some cons
Production Operative (Former Employee) - Washington, Tyne and Wear - 12 March 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedOverall the work environment was alright at first, once I was trained on the hoist I was able to make more friends and therefore it made the job alright. The team leaders were the only downside they’d not listen to requests nor would they assist properly with any problems with work that you’d have

Awful place to work
Saw Operator (Current Employee) - Washington, Tyne and Wear - 27 September 2023
Worst job ive ever had. You will be bullied into working a ridiculous amount of overtime by management and threatened with your job if you dare speak up about it.
Pros
Weekly pay
Cons
Long hours, poor wage, management are bullies

Factory Worker (Former Employee) - Washington, Tyne and Wear - 21 March 2023
Unachievable targets. And I mean it ....I'm normally quite fast and I find it difficult to keep (reach)to the hourly target. Terrible management as they won't back you even if you're a good worker . Overtime is forced on us no excuses. The worst place I worked at
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Everything

Friendly co workers
Production Operator (Current Employee) - Washington - 26 June 2022
Company tries many different schemes to boost morale but fails to realise a decent pay would work wonders and stop staff from leaving for better local companies, though recently it doesn't seem to care about losing staff. Also targets at times can be unreachable as it is heavy work.
Pros
Permanent dayshift, 4 day week
Cons
Low wage, no real chance of career advancement

Toxic culture
Production Associate (Former Employee) - Washington - 23 June 2022
Not the best culture to be working in, some lovely people to work with some not so nice people to work with. Unrealistic KPI’s with little to no help from management

Production Operative (Former Employee) - Washington - 8 May 2021
I worked in the metal venetian dep't at Hillarys. The hours were fine but they were long days! The job itself is boring once you know what you're doing and they expect a lot of work out of you for the money you get! Also if they find you hate a certain task they will take you for a conplete mug and put you on that task at any given time. It got to the point where I kicked off with them. There is a lot of favouritism and a lot of family and friends there which doesn't help on the favouritism part. There is no room for progression unless you're a friend, family or favourite. There is overtime almost all the time but there is no work life balance at all. Basically Blinds are life. In the end I never ever did overtime because I couldn't bare to be there any longer than I had to be there. On the whole leaving there is probably one of the best things I've ever done.
Cons
Long days, Management are a joke, pay, repetitive, boring, no progression.

Not what was promised
Hoist Operator (Former Employee) - Washington, Tyne and Wear - 30 September 2020
When you start working here they will promise you anything, but sharply take it away. Cell leaders don't lead by example. No progression. Favoritism
Pros
You might get some free fruit on a friday
Cons
Workers get punished, slackers get praised

Fun Busy place to work
Planning Assistant (Current Employee) - Washington, Tyne and Wear - 3 April 2020
I have learned a lot from my current job as I had very little office experience. I am now confident at what I do and although sometimes it is fast paced we are work as a team and get the job done.
Pros
free blind, summer fayre and great christmas parties
Cons
Pay could be better

productive fast paced and stressful
Production Operative (Current Employee) - Washington - 25 February 2020
In this job i go to work and make blinds for 8 hours a have breaks in between but you get told off for talking to people and when you try to help others you get told to get back on your job. the environment is negative its like you are out for yourself and you have to just constantly work work work. management could be looked at as you get away with things if your face fits. there is no enjoyable part of the job you have to work to strict targets and the staff aren't all as they seem with regard to being all nice to your face then your back is turned. what i will say is that if your someone who is looking for a job and full time hours then yeah id suggest you apply. 39 hours a week full time is good, and you get 2 weeks off at Christmas.

Production Operative (Current Employee) - Washington - 16 September 2019
Don't work here find another place to work its not worth, it you stand all day, you can not talk. While the pay is fairly OK, the only good thing is that you work no weekends

Friendly place to work.
Packer (Former Employee) - Washington, Tyne and Wear - 12 August 2019
I worked as a packer and the target was twenty eight blinds a minute which was possible as long as the line you were working on kept up to speed. After clocking in the first job was to assemble all parts required to be place inside the blinds and to make sure there was enough for the day then as soon as the line started up producing your target commenced.
Pros
Team meeting every Wednesday.
Cons
Sometimes overtime was compulsary.

Terrible place
Production Operative (Former Employee) - Washington, Tyne and Wear - 30 August 2017
Only good thing about working for hillarys is the shift, if your related to management or "in" with management you can do more or less what ever you like if not then your expected you work like a robot for 6p more than minimum wage with no chance of any kind of promotion. The work its self isn't really hard but when you see other people standing around noting nothing and your working to target its very annoying.
Management well if that's what you want to call them havnt really got a clue what they are doing. Your person business is disgusted on the factory floor for everyone to hear.
Breaks are good but that's about it.
Pros
Shifts, Breaks, works easy
Cons
Just about everything.

find a good job as this is not one of them
employees (Current Employee) - Washington - 31 July 2017
The job making blinds is easy its the management . Please find a decent job for your own peace of mind its so stressful there management are truly awful. Most section leaders have family ie mothers niece and sisters aunts . The other two are just as bad. They do bradford points but there do it for everything you get points against you like its candy . You can have an ok time there but you have to let them know how great there are if you dont then your a waste of time to them.
Pros
no weekend work
Cons
work houses look good to this place

Love working here
Production Operative (Current Employee) - Washington, Tyne and Wear - 6 May 2017
I currently work at glover in washington and i love it. Out of all the jobs ive had it is by far the best. Friendly staff, supportive section leaders/supports/trainers. Ive been trained on 3 jobs so far and enjoy doing all 3 as it keeps it fresh. If you work hard and do what your supposed to you wont have any problems if you mess about and dont even attempt to hit targets then u'll get into bother its that simple.
Pros
Early finish friday. Free blind every year. Fun days
Cons
Wages could be better
