Heavy work, good benefits for staff on permanent contract but nothing for temps, disheartening when temp contracts get extended but with no promise of permanent just maybes so no security or benefits

Pros

Decent breaks

Cons

Heavy work

Toxic culture

Not the best culture to be working in, some lovely people to work with some not so nice people to work with.Unrealistic KPI’s with little to no help from management

I wouldnt recommend.

I worked in the metal venetian dep't at Hillarys. The hours were fine but they were long days! The job itself is boring once you know what you're doing and they expect a lot of work out of you for the money you get! Also if they find you hate a certain task they will take you for a conplete mug and put you on that task at any given time. It got to the point where I kicked off with them. There is a lot of favouritism and a lot of family and friends there which doesn't help on the favouritism part. There is no room for progression unless you're a friend, family or favourite. There is overtime almost all the time but there is no work life balance at all. Basically Blinds are life. In the end I never ever did overtime because I couldn't bare to be there any longer than I had to be there. On the whole leaving there is probably one of the best things I've ever done.

Cons

Long days, Management are a joke, pay, repetitive, boring, no progression.

productive fast paced and stressful

In this job i go to work and make blinds for 8 hours a have breaks in between but you get told off for talking to people and when you try to help others you get told to get back on your job. the environment is negative its like you are out for yourself and you have to just constantly work work work. management could be looked at as you get away with things if your face fits. there is no enjoyable part of the job you have to work to strict targets and the staff aren't all as they seem with regard to being all nice to your face then your back is turned. what i will say is that if your someone who is looking for a job and full time hours then yeah id suggest you apply. 39 hours a week full time is good, and you get 2 weeks off at Christmas.

don't

if you like being belittled by managers then this is the place for you, rubbish wages targets are too high , like a victorian workhouse, the only people who like hillarys are the office staff, they get treated ok unlike shopfloor staff, morale is very low here

Hillarys no

Don't work here find another place to work its not worth, it you stand all day, you can not talk. While the pay is fairly OK, the only good thing is that you work no weekends

Fast and Productive

It was a nice place to work. No communication or organisation from management but was a straight forward job which required you to use your initiative. I worked many areas of this company (in production) and there are goods and bads in all areas.

Pros

finish work 1pm Fridays

Cons

False hope of advancement

Easy place to work

Hillary’s isn’t a bad company to work for. But it doesn’t offer much variety in terms of a career path, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing depending on how ambitious you are.

Pros

Easy work

Cons

Minimum wage, mind numbing work

Terrible place

Only good thing about working for hillarys is the shift, if your related to management or "in" with management you can do more or less what ever you like if not then your expected you work like a robot for 6p more than minimum wage with no chance of any kind of promotion. The work its self isn't really hard but when you see other people standing around noting nothing and your working to target its very annoying. Management well if that's what you want to call them havnt really got a clue what they are doing. Your person business is disgusted on the factory floor for everyone to hear. Breaks are good but that's about it.

Pros

Shifts, Breaks, works easy

Cons

Just about everything.

Productive, dull place

Worked along side hillarys for 3 year, at first it was a job everyone enjoyed. Everyone was looking forward to coming into work but now it's turned into a military camp. You can't go to the toilet without getting permission. The daily targets keep going up and up, the employers is way to hard and looks down on the employees. The management think because they are higher then the workers they have the right to speak to people like they have just stood on them

Pros

Half day friday

Cons

Deadend jobs

Appaling/ Stressful and badly-run

Unbelievably clueless and unprofessional management team made working in this place an unfunny joke. The workload was shared around unfairly with the easiest jobs constantly going to my team leaders mates and managers favourites. Don't waste your time trying to resolve any issues with the management because its more likely that humans will be living on mars by the time a manager can actually be bothered to acknowledge you or your problem. The company itself just treat you like cattle because low paid, unskilled workers are ten to a penny. The bottom line at Hillarys Blinds is that its profit that matters not its employees or its customers and the factory in Colwick operates like a western version of a Chinese sweatshop. Conclusion: lack of support from management, no organisation, cliques, no chance of progression, untrustworthy, bad manners, lack of respect for anyone.

very producitve

The emplyees was very good to work with, we would go in each morning sign our health and saftey sheet to say everything was how it should be.Sort our barrels out ready for cutting the fabric to attach to them. It involved some heavy lifting that is why we had to do a manual handling cousre. I got moved around alot which didnt bother me much as i like to be multi-skilled. And i like to be kept busy. I always got my hourly number if not more is why they didnt want me to leave. But was not going to further my career with them. And i love new challenges

Pros

free blinds

productive

I enjoyed working at Hillarys and wish my experience could of been extended. It was a hard job but when my shift was over I was proud of my self to hit all targets what was set for me. I also loved the pat I was receiving as I could pay for all my essentials throughout the week.
