Go for it

I loved working in the prison service its very rewarding but due to personal circumstances I had to leave but would go back in a heartbeat. Management very approachable always there if you need them and will help as much as they can weather it but personal or work related problems.

Terrible place to work

Ridiculous caseload. No support. No progression. Expected to work long hours. This used to be a good job but, like all public services, it has been decimated to the point where nothing works. Awful.

It’s alright

More con’s than pro’s. It can be a rewarding job but it depends on management. Very short staffed and they don’t really care about your mental health and well-being, they care more about the money they can get from having prisoners in rather than keeping it a safe place to work.

Stressful, draining, poor management

Being a probation officer used to be rewarding, you would have freedom to work creatively, have the time to do quality work and make a difference. Do not apply for this job if you think you will be able to do this.
