Simple enough job
I work in Belfast City Airport, and if I'm being honest I already want to leave. I've been working here for 8 months and I would say the biggest issue is the lack of team work with some staff members. A lot of them don't care about the job and do bare minimum which puts a lot of pressure on the ones who do. I struggled with bullying from one of the make supervisors for 5 months and nothing has ever happened to fix that. I like the friends I've made there however I don't think it's worth staying. I was also told that I would be working 8h shifts and that delays are very rare and never really happen which is a lie! You always end up working 12h a day with only one break and if you work back to back you're so burnt out you need two days off just to collect yourself. Also huge issue with gossip!

Fun workplace, diverse and Great opportunities
I have worked for HMSHost for just under a year and a half, i started off in our cheshire oaks store in leon, where i built amazing relationships with the staff and learnt a lot about the company and the store. In this time i learnt some very useful life skills including how kitchens work day to day and how to train people front of house and back of house. I moved to the airport when it re opened at the beginning of last year and progressed into a team leader just in the sort space of 6 months. They is always room for progression with the company when you work to the best of your ability and being yourself! The hours are known as “unsociable” but the shifts are there if you are either a night owl or an early bird. if you like lie ins you can start at 12pm or sometimes later. The early morning shifts sound worse but in my opinion the better shift as you can have a power nap once you’re done and then have the rest of your day to yourself after earning a days wage.

Great company, embraces individuality, inclusivity and diversity. Plenty of opportunity for progression!
Have worked for this company for 9+ years. Find it quite sad to read the negativity on here, so decided I'd post some honesty. A typical day on the floor of bars, restaurants or coffee shops, see's you mingling with guests who are travelling on their holidays and are generally happy to be going away! The teams are that, an actual TEAM! Everyone looks after each other, from management down. Free meals on shift, getting to keep cash tips, monthly card tips too, a great place to be if you're trying to save for a house or travels. The company rewards hard work, those interested in a career within hospitality, will be invested in and given the direction, support and training to be able to chase their dreams of becoming a hospitality manager. The hardest part of the job, tends to become the easiest part of the job. The dreaded early shifts - Honestly, I hated doing these to begin with, but once I did a week of them, I did 3 years on the run. There's nothing better than finishing at 11:00am, with a full days wage, a full stomach of free food and a pocket full of cash tips!Overall a great company to work for :)

Short and not so sweet but decent pay
Management stand around leaving the staff to pick up the dirt whilst shouting. I lasted no longer than about 6 shifts here and did not learn much. The place is organised chaos and and only redeeming factors are decent pay and guaranteed hours. Flexibility is hit or miss. HR are more of less unresponsive but friendly. Management style at the restaurant is Laissez-Faire. job description is completely misleading. Can only work one out of 2 shift patterns but other staff are friendly and all in the same boat. Wouldn’t be bad if job description was honest. Management disappearing off floor leaving staff to organise their own roles. Pay is reasonable and card tips are splitter out. Unclear management and short but not so sweet but not terrible.
