Overworked and underpaid

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
The salary you start on is the salary you will remain on. Expected to work extra hours without pay and encouraged to log in at home outside of contracted hours. Unrealistic targets and unmanageable casleoad. Made to feel like you cannot call in sick and made to feel like everything you do isn't good enough.

Pros

Flexible start time

Cons

Low pay, unmanageable caseload, unrealistic targets

Honestly the worst

One of the worst places I’ve ever worked. Very little pay, little to no opportunities of progression and an uncomfortable working atmosphere- favouritism and nepotism present throughout and management unapproachable and unhelpful. Would highly recommend looking elsewhere for any entry level positions for better pay and appreciation as an employee.

Pros

None

Cons

Poor pay, no progression, bullying

Very Stressful

Workload of over 800 files in the recoveries department although the Fraud department is very relaxed. lots of favouritism, pressure is put on you for all your litigated files. The pay is low as well. All the people I knew have left that department people stay for the training contracts.

Pros

casual workwear very sociable

Cons

expect you to stay behind, high file load, low pay you are seen as a number

Awful - stay well away

They literally have no idea what they are doing. Systems don’t link, they can’t manage their way out of a paper bag and their new world / cosmos system that is over 3 years in development has been pulled. Bullying managers, backstabbing and hiding truth is the norm. If you value your sanity then go nowhere near this place. People are nice.

Rigid rules

I worked on an evening shift quite a long time ago when they were based in Manchester. It was quite a big firm back then. On the plus side the pay was quite acceptable. On the minus side, your every move had to be accounted for, i.e. no cup of tea at your desk, nothing at all in fact. but to balance this they did have structured breaks. Every tiny company rule had to be adhered to regarding typing etc. You were expected to type up so many minutes of dictation a night, But then you may get stuck doing a large bundle at the photocopier and begin to panic as you hadn't officially made your quota! You had to fill in a time sheet so they could see exactly what you were doing. Also you could be working like a demon, as some of the fee earners would just say "do the bill" and then leave you to calculate all the figures on the bill and type the bill up which in effect was a lot of work but the dictation had only moved 1 second and so it looked as though you were doing nothing at all workwise even though you were working very hard!! All in all I didn't it a very nice place to work.

Productive and fun workplace

A relaxed and friendly office which was flexible with working hours. The management team I worked under were very friendly and professional and knew a lot of information in their specialist field which they were always prepared to share.

As Expected

People are nice, experienced and wiling to help. Company is relatively progressive, but like any company, promise the world but cannot deliver. If you are an experienced person it's definitely a great place as they are keen to make you climb the ladder and get qualified, if you are new, or still gaining experience, there's often not a lot of time to be actively mentored.

Pros

Fruit delivery, team building activities

Cons

Over-pressured, lack of one to one mentoring, mostly for the highly experienced person.

Utterly awful company.

Staff turnover is incredibly high. Peoples skills are not valued. Management is both clueless and oblivious, except when it comes to insulting those down the food chain. Job review processes are cutthroat and unfair. Encourages a hostile working environment. Everybody appears depressed. Practically zero career advancement. Strongly advise you avoid this company at all costs.

Pros

Some good people there

Cons

treated like dirt

Operation manager are cover each other’s back, staffs are lazy.

Whole admin team are in a right mess, operation manager are cover each other’s back, one of them is racist and bulling, horrible to work with if you are non white. Staffs are lazy, the manager forcus in the wrong thing; not have enough experience to operate the team. Salary is very low compare to legal firm, trying to sweet people up by once a month free fruit, Easter and Christmas chocolate.

Pros

Free chocolate, fruit.

Cons

Racist manager

Unpleasant employment experience

May be ok short term for applicants to get hands on experience assisting within a department but not ideal for anyone wanting to establish a career long term due to lack of work/ life balance. Its a big organisation with a high staff turnaround. The people are friendly but mostly they are super stressed all the time with too many files, long hours and targets are set extremely high- sadly this is reflected in the daily office atmosphere making it a very unpleasant and distant place to be. The management aren't very approachable either.

Pros

experience and training

Cons

stressful atmosphere

Great to be challenged

I loved that every case I worked on was different, I expanded m knowledge on this type of work and really enjoyed getting to learn new skills. The management and organisation of my team was shocking, and I was helping out on other departments due to my managers demand, causing my own team to fall behind.

Average

Poor pay but good people, fringe benefits are pretty good too. Culture not too demanding and dress down code is relaxed. Look to promote from within most times which is good.

Pros

Fringe benefits ie. Fruit Wednesdays

Cons

poor pay

Fun

Not very well paid, the staff are friendly and it is good for learning. However, the case loads are large and the pay does not reflect the hours one puts in.

Consistently poor when it comes to rewarding employees

There is an annoying tendency on the part of management to boast about the success of the business, increased turnover, new clients etc, and then follow it up with a string of redundancies and a dreadful pay review. There are some nice perks; flexible hours, relaxed dress code, occasional outings and such, but there is always a feeling that management is simply doing everything they can to avoid giving you a proper pay increase. There is scope for progression, however, there has been seemingly constant "restructuring" during my time here, which appears to involve letting the higher paid members of staff go, increasing the workload on those below them, and bringing in more junior members of staff. It makes you not want to progress there because you'll either get no pay increase or you'll end up becoming a victim of "restructuring". Just incredibly demoralising to see.

Pros

Relaxed dress code, flexible hours, mostly nice atmosphere, some scope for progress and variety

Cons

Consistently poor pay reviews, which easily outweighs all of the pros and then some

Long hours

If you are newly qualified there are opportunities for advancement and a lot of support and training. It is dressed down policy. There are lots of opportunities for socialising and they are friendly colleagues. There is quite a lot of case files person and long hours.

Pros

Flexible time, bistro on site

Cons

Heavy work load
