Official response from Hotel Du Vin13 January 2021
Hi There,Thanks for your reveiw. Our housekeeping teams are absolute heros and do work very quickly in order to turn the rooms around from one guest leaving to the next arriving. They have added responsibility currently ensuring that all bedrooms are Covid Secure and do an excellant job.We have some new development toolkits being published this month for our housekeeping teams to help with initial training but also career development longer term these will run alongside the apprenticeships and city and guilds training already on offer. Thanks againBen
Hotel du Vin is a warm welcoming place to work at. Everyone is really good to work with. We made an excellent team. Everyone of my colleagues was cooperative and we wouldn't have accomplished anything without team effort. Not only were they great colleagues but really good friends too. We were like one big family and we all liked one another. All workers were supportive of one another and always tried uplifting my day, even when it was a bad one. Because of my colleagues, I enjoyed going to work and I think that's something very important when working at a job.
Back stabbing culture from senoir management on all levels. No support. Do as I say not what I do culture.Job description and benefits are a joke. Living on its name and run by a bunch cowboys who are only intrested in making a name for themselves at any cost.Stay clear.....
Does as your told or else...
This company is truly awful to work for. You have to live and breathe this company or you will be pushed out. Staff get no breaks, management are more concerned with making money that with staff issues. Worked for less than NMW. Treated like I was psychic and had to know everything without being trained. Poor training and learning practices. You're just told to get on with it. Higher management is an absolute nightmare, militant to say the least. You have to do the job of 3 people and they expect it to be done without question. Higher Management can get away with breaking the rules, inc the law and nothing happens. You're literally not allowed to eat or drink anything but higher management have daily, regular food and drink. It would be a lovely place without the GM and DGM there. Staff are told to f off. Too much backstabbing. You work hours you aren't paid for. Never got holiday entitlement...honestly it's a nightmare. I'm glad I'm no longer there. Save yourself and do not work here.
Higher management, no breaks, poor wage
I find out that working in this company you won’t receive any development in your future. Management are not professional and careless! I need to experience most of the departments section and run on a regular basis shifts by myself in the most of the sections which is ridicules and not legal at all!
No free food
They overload you with work. You never get praise but plenty of criticism. The one over housekeeping is domineering, modern day vampire. You don't get time for a lunch break. Some are more favoured than others. No one stays. You are not appreciated.Always running out of things.Had nothing to clean cups, mugs etc with in the bathroom sink for months.Ran out of sanitizer
The staff working at Hotel Du vin made my experience a good one, the work is like any other hospitality industry, with its up and its downs. The work is not difficult, but the hours can be long and I was personally given a lot of freedom and responsibility to run my own events and prove my value within the company.
We want to help you find great companies. Help us be the best!
Do these reviews help you learn more about working at Hotel Du Vin?
Management is all about the profit and guest experience, but no-one seems to care about the staff (overtime, understaffed, we can be given more work while already drowning), and no-one seems to be aware that all starts from the well being of the staff. You can lose your self confidence easily working there, so if you're willing to take the job, don't forget to quit before that happens.
Management have no clue how to run place, have no respect for no one and spend there hole time in office not out working with staff so training is not existent. No meals provided (sometimes not even a break!!) but expected to work long hours. DO NOT work for hotel du vin.....you have been warned
Head house keeper keeps within her budget by keeping housekeeping grossly under staffed which puts added stress on everyone. She takes toilet rolls off the holders in the rooms when they are more than half full, very wasteful. She is always very negitive. Public Area person never stays because she stresses them out.Head house keeper often does Public area job herself.
Awful place to work, each hotel dictated to by senior management who appear to be clueless to each hotels needs and continually make scapegoats out of lower ranked members of staff! Senior figures intent on masking and hiding real issues to keep property owners off their own backs and the rest have to suffer the consequence! Absolute shamble!
Working here was awful, the amount expected from you is so unrealistic and completely draining. They would give you the rotas for the next day the night before which could mean you start at 6am. The hourly rate is ok but you are not allowed any tips until you’ve worked there for 3 months. Often you would be expected to work over a week with no days off The atmosphere and the pressure mentally and physically is not sustainable for anyone in my opinion. When you get something wrong you are made to feel awful and with next to no proper training they should expect mistakes. I would not recommend working here
i wouldn't recommend to anyone to work there. very badly managed, employees are forced to work loooong shifts with no meal or even a simple sandwich provided. no one seems to cares about the staff that is overworked. Just do yourself a favour and avoid this place !
