It’s the most rewarding job and I love it.... But the company has a lot to improve on. From poor communication to the way they liase with staff is poor.

Nurturing organisation

There is lots of training available and I have gained certificated courses since I joined. I have asked for help and received it from my manager and colleagues.

Worst Company i have worked for.

I have worked in care for a very long time and have to say I lasted only a few weeks with this company. They have the most uncaring attitude I have ever come across. Support staff are pushed too hard, bullied at times to come to work when unwell. I witnessed staff who were genuinely sick, ie vomiting, being told they had to finish their runs. I witnessed staff being told they had to take immodium if they had stomach issues and then complete their run. The amount of bad practice I witnessed during my time there was shocking. The owner is completely delusional in her service. Staff are mistreated and bullied. Office staff are also bullied. It is very much a clique and if your face doesn't fit then be prepared to feel their wrath.

Official response from HRM Homecare

25 October 2019
Thank you for taking the time to post your review on working with HRM Homecare Services. It is disappointing to hear that your experience with us was not a positive one. Having worked in care for “a very long time” you will appreciate just how challenging operating at the coal face can sometimes be and of course, people respond differently to pressure. We strive to promote an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and respected and we genuinely care for our workers and as well as our service users. We would be happy to discuss this with you offline. In the meantime, I would encourage you to take a look at the report produced by UKHCA titled A risk-register for state funded homecare

Bullying and Intimidating

Constantly pestered to do shifts even when having told them previously that I was unavailable. Phoned up to 10 times a day by different managers/office staff to do shifts. Uncaring when providing care to service users.

Pushed to do more hours

I only wanted part-time work and I had put down for where I live locally,I started doing my part-time hours fine then all of a sudden I was put to various different locations,I jumped from being part-time to being full-time,they never asked me,just sort of put me in for full-time work, they always had staff shortages, not enough staff and when I asked my supervisor that I wanted to go back to part-time,she brushed it off.I had to drive from South Ayrshire to East Renfrewshire every morning,I did enjoy going to my service users and got on well with them all. The hardest part of the job was the traveling and sometimes I had to got to different locations on my way home. I must say the service users were lovely and always chatted to me every morning.. The reason I left was I wasn't allowed to take my holidays that were booked off,as no support workers to do my area,so I resigned from the company through Health Issues.

Pros

Lovely service users

Cons

good place to work

I enjoy my job and the people I meet on a daily basis. I enjoy being able to do home care as it is a more settled environment to work in. The most enjoyable part of my job is being able to help others.

I enjoy it - here is my review

Worked here for 8 months now. Had 3 years previous experience and this company is far better than my previous one. I work part time with the option to pick up extra shifts. I choose about 4 days per month to perk up the wages. My choice. On my days off I don't answer my personal phone, I'm not paid for standby and I don't get called anymore. I need that work/life balance! I find all office staff friendly and helpful. If you are willing to do your job well this is a good company to work for. £9 per hour 15p per mile for fuel Second uniform is £22.50 Yeah, don't get paid travel time but it can be caught up as sometimes only in with service user, e.g. 15 mins on a 30 min visit. Some service users are happy with task and go..not them all have you staying the full allocated time so it does balance the work allocated. My opinion - thanks for reading

Pros

Fair and knowledgeable office staff. Nice colleagues

Cons

Could be better paid but that applys to all jobs.

Avoid promise you all sorts, don’t get paid for training, should have done what the majority of people did and just left.

Typical day at work could be start at 06.30, finish for lunch at 1/130 start back at 3/30, because the rotas were unrealistic, you would be playing catch up all day, going without a break until lunch time and then no break after that till you finish, which could be at worst 11.00. No travel time which means you leave a persons house at 19.55 and you have to be at the next persons house for 19.55 even though it’s a 10/15 minute walk, very uncaring “caring company” co ordinaters WOW, rude not interested, and after all this you get paid for 11/12 hrs, and you get phoned all the time on your day offf , because people phone in sick , who are not sick, but that seems to be ok

Official response from HRM Homecare

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on working with HRM Homecare Services.Working in care is extremely challenging and people seldom understand the pressures associated with delivering care. We work very hard to ensure we provide our service users with good quality care and we recognise that our workers are the shop window of our service. As difficult as it may be to understand, there are at times genuine reasons why difficulties occur, often out with our control. Please feel free to contact us directly and we will be happy to discuss your issues in detail. In the meantime, I would encourage you to take a look at the UKHCA report titled A risk-register for state-funded homecare

5 star

I have worked with Hrm for over 3 years. I work 3 days 1 week and 4 the next with the option to pick up additional shifts if I am available. The office staff are nice and helpful and so is the management team. The office staff and management go over and above for the staff and services. Sometimes it is difficult for the office staff due to absences and sickness which is no fault of theres and they do there up most to ensure the services are covered.

Pros

Free tunics, training, pvg updated

Cons

Avoid

I worked for a few years and it was HONESTLY the worst few years of my life this job mentally effected me and my happiness. Every day was a sore head, constant phone calls on days off sometimes 18+ a day and numerous voicemails begging for help. Days are long some days up to 14-16 hours on the rota, and still get service users added on due to other staff getting moved areas or calling in sick. Management are no help, only nice when you are doing extra shifts for them and very too faced even gossiping about each other. Plenty of times I would enter the office and no one would know I was there (waiting for gloves and other PPE) and I would on occasion hear them gossiping The level of care provided is terrible. Homecare suits some people but a lot of the people I visited just wanted company and most of the time I was in and out because of either no travel time between clients AND extra clients added on to the rota. Sometimes wouldn’t get updated Rotas until 10pm or next morning when already on shift. Training - very basic you learn as you go. Management unappreciative when staff go the extra mile and only praise certain people. Management have no people skills HOWEVER certain people nicer than others but only on occasion also warned not to pester oncall with certain things which made me personally hate calling them as you feel like you are pestering/ interrupting them very rarely got supervision or spot checks so office staff really have no clue what happens out on the field good or bad. Which is worrying

Pros

Meeting clients and building nice relationships

Cons

Too many

Avoid

I worked here for 8 months and it was the worst company I have ever worked for the only good was the lovely service users who deserved a better company to take care of there needs. I worked on a double run with another support worker who was absolutely fantastic. The whole run was a complete shambles the Coatbridge office were very rude and not helpful. They would hound you every day and even move you location without letting you know I would generally avoid.!!!!!!

Pros

Service users

Cons

The whole company and the management especially Coatbridge office

the hardest part of the job

being a walker, being caught out in all weathers wasn't ideal and the girls at the office weren't very nice most of the time and when they made an error on your part..they blamed you

Worst company ever

Worked for them for one year haven’t been there a while but read a review there about how great the company are I have never read such a bunch lies hence the reason for this review , the coordinators couldn’t be more unqualified, never answer the on call phone, you are pestered constantly for shifts and when asked for holidays was never given the dates asked as for the care the staff are overworked and service users are added on when you don’t have time therefore they are not getting the proper care avoid this company like the plaque!

Happy to work here

Have worked for HRM for the past 6 months have had no issues. My line manager is very helpful and offers good advice when I need It. Strong team that are in there jobs for the right reasons. First uniform is foc and I am paid mileage for the work I do. I can confirm they do not operate a zero hours contract as someone else quoted.

Pros

Good relationships

Cons

None to mention
