High pressure but making a difference in a difficult climate
Adult social care worker (Current Employee) - Kingston upon Hull - 28 February 2022
High pressure environment. If your not a social worker you are under valued. Specific people seem to rise quickly through the ranks when their face fits. Immediate colleagues are very supportive and caring but there is a sense of everyone been weathered now. Having said that working directly with people to improve their lives is highly rewarding and we really do 'make a difference- the best part of the job is when someone thanks you

Friendly and productive workplace
Waste Management (Former Employee) - Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire - 6 January 2021
Spent two years in Waste Management in a role which provided great skills for public sector working e.g project management, customer service, complaint resolution etc. Friendly team and managers who supported a great work / life balance. There was no micromanaging of staff but senior colleagues were always knowledgable and approachable if help was needed. Varied office and field based work made the role interesting. Would recommend this employer, particularly this service area.
Pros
Flexible working, good working hours, good management

Out dated management
Recruitment Assistant (Current Employee) - Kingston upon Hull - 31 December 2020
Poor management structures in place which often leads to overworked, stressed staff at the bottom of the scale. Long term staff often complacent and reluctant to change. Coming from the private sector I struggled to adapt to inflexible, outdated systems and a very rigid tier system. Other departments may be different but both I experienced were difficult and pressurised roles with poor pay structure
Pros
Job security and pension
Cons
Outdated management attitude

No Rewards for hard work
Lifeguard/Leisure Assistant (Former Employee) - Kingston upon Hull - 28 July 2020
A lot of Favouritism,The Workers that do the job not rewarded & no better thought of than the Shirkers & Skivers that try avoid doing the job,Some staff not punctual ,some come & go when they want & some staff take a lot more breaks & longer breaks than others & Come in late & go early avoiding cleaning & change overs.I got fed up of carrying people so I left after some staff taking the Mick.
Pros
Loved being a Life guard training excellent
Cons
No Rewards or Bonuses for hard work

Great Department
Hull (Former Employee) - Hull City Centre, East Riding of Yorkshire - 1 March 2020
Great Department to work for. Not a lot of options if on a Fixed Term Contract though. Do not agree on point scoring at interviews should go on skills and abilty and not just how you perform at interview has some people are better at showing there skills and not just answering question
Pros
Great Department

Colleagues are mutually supportive
Social Worker (Current Employee) - Hull City Centre, East Riding of Yorkshire - 31 January 2020
With so many years experience there are inevitably highs and lows. Working for the Local Authority not a role that is taken on in isolation and therefore the effect of cuts on agencies with whom we need to work cannot be ignored. The cuts are however also leading to difficult decisions being taken within the authority. Unfortunately the are often ultimately counter-productive. I feel it is difficult to maintain the high standards to which I would like to work due to the amount of my time being spent taking on work that could be streamlined or undertaken by staff in other supportive roles.
