productive good pay
Sales Co-Worker (Current Employee) - Birstall, West Yorkshire - 18 October 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThere is equal pay for everyone, and everyone is treated fairly. However, there is a lot of politics in the work place and the work place can become toxic at times.

Jobs at IKEA
Sales positionsTerrible Experience
Sales Co-Worker (Former Employee) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire - 6 November 2023
I worked at my store for 4 years whilst I completed my studies. I initially enjoyed the job, however after a change in management and in the store's steering team the job became unbearable. The store manager or sales manager walk the store several times a day. If were not visible on your department, you'd receieve a phone call to ask where you were and why you had left your area. I found this particularly annoying, as there were never enough staff to get cover if you needed to leave your department for any reason (for a break, to go to the toilet, even to go take a product to a customer at checkouts if you'd been asked to do so). You will need to be fit to work to the standards they expect of you, especially when you will need to walk to other parts of the store to complete your tasks and to recover the department on an evening shift. You also won't have much help if you are asked to rearrange heavy pallets of stock or to move products around. The hardest part of the job is the weekends and dealing with the customers who come in. The majority of customers are rude to you, and are often upset that they can't find their way out. You need to be a patient person and comfortable with giving directions at least 50 times per shift. The customers are messy and you will spend most of your shift cleaning up after them. It was not surprising to find discarded food and drink on a busy day. One customer had a poo in the middle of a department, so you need to have a strong stomach. Your experience will depend on the quality of your management and the type of coworkers you work alongside, -

Good job but can be a bit draining
Sales Co-Worker (Current Employee) - Gateshead, Tyne and Wear - 14 October 2023
Out of all the jobs I’ve had this has definitely been my best one, it’s got great benefits, amazing bonuses and I’ve made a lot of friends whilst being here. However some downsides are probably that it is really difficult to step up, I have worked here for a few years now and asked for extra hours for a while but they just won’t be given to me which is a shame as I need the money. Another thing is depending on what department you’re on there can be a lot of intense heavy lifting, there’s been a lot of times I’ve strained my back as I’ve had to lift/move something that is way out of my strength, that’s not too great. Management can sometimes be really strict too, some of them won’t allow you to talk to a co worker for just two minutes and it can be pretty frustrating at times.

Lovely people and culture
Sales Co-Worker (Former Employee) - Birstall, West Yorkshire - 20 September 2023
IKEA Leeds/Birstall/Batley whatever you want to call it is a good place to work. I was there for 4 years across different functions and enjoyed my time there. There is a range of people from young to older and it’s not a typical retail job

Great experience
Sales Co-Worker (Current Employee) - Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire - 21 August 2023
Great experience as it allowed me to develop into the working world as a teen. Very nice colleagues, and team leaders who are supportive. The days can get busy on weekends where it can be compacted but time flies during those shifts

Overall okay depening on coworkrs
Sales Co-Worker (Current Employee) - Braehead, Glasgow - 12 July 2023
Some co-workers are brilliant as well as most mangers but it takes one or two co-workers to ruin the mood on department, Also has a tendency to change working programs for no reason

good place to work overall
Sales Co-Worker (Current Employee) - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire - 1 July 2023
fun job and friendly staff but management isn’t always great. great coworker benefits but not the ideal job for someone looking for full time as there are very limited options to move up in the company - basically either manager/teamleader or 12/16 hour contract - overtime was available but they have rly cut it down

Supportive environment
Sales Coworker (Current Employee) - Cardiff, Wales - 5 June 2023
Very supportive environment. Varies from team to team but Ikea as a whole has very good business ideals and takes care of its employees starting with good work culture, free food options, employee discounts, cost of living help and financing options. I work in the Beds department for planning customer wardrobes. This is comfortable work in itself but otherwise, too all my teammates seem happy about their current roles and future growth in the company.

No work life balance
Sales Co-Worker (Former Employee) - Exeter, Devon - 3 June 2023
Started off good. Made lots of friends. Definitely the people that make the job worth doing. Will not shift on weekend working and very rarely had more than 2 week rotas in advance. Impossible to book holidays when you want. Limited chance of getting time off in peak times, unless you are a shopkeeper or team leader (you can book yourself in for all of them off as holiday then). Food in the canteen good value but basically leftovers made into something with gravy or a curry. Free Healthy option but not actually healthy.

The people are what makes it
Sales Co-Worker (Former Employee) - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire - 16 May 2023
I loved my time working for the company - I was given lots of opportunities to develop myself and I'm still in contact with a lot of the people since leaving a few years ago. The people are what made it something special.

Great people, poor management
Sales Co-Worker (Current Employee) - England - 9 May 2023
Gone downhill in recent years. Pay is national living wage (less than many retailers), huge management-coworker divide. Best thing is the people you work with, worst thing the people you work for.

no progression
Sales Co-Worker (Current Employee) - Warrington, Cheshire - 21 March 2023
only progress if you are friends with management, so also treated unfairly and don't learn anything new at all. would not recommend as a career. avoid
