Lofty ambitions, poorly staffed
Mechanical Design Engineer (Current Employee) - Loughborough - 27 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedGreat people and brilliant product. The idea out performs the plan though. Often badly under resourced for projects which results in resource being allocated from other projects, resulting in more stress and delays for everyone.
Pros
Awesome people and great camaraderie
Cons
Poor planning and over promising

Assembly and Test person (Current Employee) - Loughborough, Leicestershire - 16 August 2023
They seem to be good at talking the talk but the reality doesn't match up. What looks like good opportunity for progression can be completely hampered depending on who your line manager is. If your progression doesn't go through until November then you won't be eligible for next years annual pay review and you can bet someone will make sure your application is held off long enough to ensure that's the case. The company handbook states what the annual pay review should be (in line with inflation) and it never is and gets pushed back later and later each year. Poorly defined accountability statements almost guarantees you're doing far more than your job actually says but you also can't jump grades in progression to match what you're actually doing. Moving came with the promise of expansion and moving to a new site which has apparently been on the cards for years and always falls through for some reason or other. The internal communication could be significantly better as there is a focus on figures that just feel made up while production just seems to suffer as products are to be built that never got properly finished at the design stage, but they force builds early to get to customers that inevitably come back for repair. There is a real mismatch in the priorities so people are pulling in different directions. With four distinct branches of the company it would make sense to split things up significantly more to avoid everyone trying to pull on the same resources.
Pros
Sick pay, nice colleagues, referral scheme (not applicable for hiring operators though), discount scheme for lots of retailers
Cons
No working from home, too many meetings

Good enough company
Senior Mechanical Analysis Engineer Research & Product Development (Former Employee) - Loughborough - 3 July 2020
Medium size company with relaxed work culture, casual dress code, cantine and cafeteria on-site with beautiful green area and lake/pond in front of offices (very nice for lunch breaks).
I think it's a great company to work especially for graduate engineers where one can learn a lot about fuel cell although employe's training could be improved.
Work hours are not very flexible but has shorter Friday which is alright.
Pros
Learn a lot about fuel cells technology
Cons
People are a bit reserved

Innovative culture
Principal Electronics Engineer (Former Employee) - United Kingdom - 11 February 2020
Great environment that breeds innovation and cooperative working. Benefits are really good and there is a family culture about them. Plenty to do and there is freedom to move around departments so one can learn more about the technology.

Excellent Working Environment
IT Support Analyst (Current Employee) - Loughborough - 29 September 2017
Nice place, nice people. Technology is very good, desire to use latest tools is very good, ability to sell a product is more questionable. Definitely worth joining if they can begin to sell products and become profitable.
Pros
Good work life balance, nice office location and people
Cons
Lack of job security

Good people bad management
Product Development Engineer (Former Employee) - Loughborough - 28 July 2016
The people in the company are great, good social atmosphere and people are very clever and talented. This is overshadowed by the poor management who have no clear plan for the company, rarely communicate with the work force and when they do it is never clear and honest. The technology is great, however there does not appear to be a market for it and often the management "solution" is to create a market which leads to over optimism and a culture of we know best so do as we say.

Good and productive atmosphere
Research Engineer (Current Employee) - Loughborough - 26 February 2016
My first real job after graduating, and it is a great atmosphere to work in. Staff is friendly, and always willing to have a chat both work related and more social. I have gained a lot of technical knowledge during these 3 years, although I would appreciate more training courses. My presentation skills have greatly improved, as well as my report writing skills something you don't practice enough in a science degree. Career progression is often encouraged and well supported by managers and technical leads.
Pros
Nice and friendly atmosphere
Cons
Not enough training

Senior PCB Engineer (Current Employee) - Loughborough, ENG - 4 June 2015
8.5hr day, decent office, good working location, in university complex.
Co-workers hard working and good communicators, hardest part of job is getting action from IT. Most enjoyable is working in an active busy place.
Pros
Free tea/coffee, private health, pension
Cons
Sometimes disorganised

A very poor organisation
Machine Shop Technician (Current Employee) - Loughbrough - 14 May 2015
A research & development company desperately trying to break into manufacturing & failing miserably. Management by spread sheet seems to be the motto of this confused & befuddled organisation. A fuel cells innovator it has some dubious relations with a few Japanese automotive companies & a some curious methods of supporting & financing it self & it's bloated management structure.
Pros
Free Breakfast bap every 5 weeks or so & watch new recruits introduce themselves.
Cons
Major cull every 9 months as it gets rid of it's dead wood!

I have learnt a lot of new tasks while working at IE.
I now feel its time to move on to a smaller company where I can use my skills.
Pros

Cons
Long hours
