Unfreindly

Difficult to join ready established team that are unwelcoming and competitive. No attempt was name to introduce or train me ,instead I was told I'd make the effort myself if the job was important enough.

Pros

Pay

Cons

Very long hours both at work and at home

Beautiful location, disappointing job

Sewage work role, helping to run the wastewater treatment plant at the main military base and international airport on East Falkland. However, plant was not working due to a mechanical fault and this was not remedied during my entire, albeit short stay on the site. Demarcation issues between whether the fault lay with the contractor or the MoD authority meant the issue dragged on unresolved, and all the while bad, dirty water left the plant and ran out to the sea about 10 miles away. The watercourse ran on past a Gentoo penguin colony, so it was a worry what effect the pollution would have on the wildlife nearby. The location is however stunning. Anyone interested in nature would love the opportunity working in the Falklands affords to see unique wildlife up very close- Elephant seals, sealions, king penguins you name it. You also have the opportunity to meet very interesting people researchers, military personnel, Falkland Islanders, other workers in the base, not least the lovely ladies in the Interserve office, and to use free facilities like an excellent swimming pool, gym with Wattbikes and rowing machines. The communications with home were poor though- very expensive internet via a rip-off Sure South Atlantic contract, so it can get pricey when you get lonely. Accommodation too needs updating. Food passable.

Pros

Bonuses payable on completion of contract. Free food and accommodation. Wonderful location, opportunities to see Falkland Islands or Cone

Cons

Problems of working for a contractor- very long supply chains, a long way from anywhere when it all goes pear-shaped.

A fun workplace

My job is to dust an hoover the offices and empty bins, to dust hoover and mop reception area, to wash and dry dishes and empty bins and wipe all tables and chairs down and hoover and mop in the rest room. I clean the toilets and sinks and mop the floors in there. I work on my own but it is a lovely place to work

Pros

Being on my own and being able to get on

Cons

Low pay job

Not happy with pay structure. Fully qualified engineer earns less than a Porter doing the night shift. Work for the same company but different benefits for different departments. Job in general isn’t very hard but qualifications needed to perform job should be rewarded appropriately.

Pros

Job security

Cons

Long hours under staffed low pay

Managed by in human people

Interserve Justice Wakefield as it was known (taken back by probation, I wonder why?) was run by 3 individuals who constantly made employees working life a misery. COVID made it worse and fear was always used by management to allow them to continue hurting peoples mental health. Avoid like the plaque if I was you..

Site was friendly

Working for interserve was ok had good and bad points as any other job. Rarely saw manager which was good as I was left to get on with it. Didn't like the cleaning products at all and they wouldn't supply me with certain materials so bought my own. Also their hr dept although pleasant enough need to realise that if theres a problem deal with it there and then instead of brushing it under the carpet

Pros

Having no one on your back

Cons

Earning a small wage and waiting a month

Dont bother

They didn't pay me my last few wages. Rang around all the top people there. Told me I would get my pay but never did. They just passed me around all the admin/management for a few months. Gave up in the end. How can a company get away with that. Don't even bother!

Cons

Management are useless

Lazy managment /back stabbing culture

Working at BBC pacific Quay Security , it has thee worst managment i have ever seen in my life .Lazy scruffy and utterly complacent far too comfortable in thier roles , there is a terrible gossip culture on the floor also making it very hard for new people to fit in especially when you are more experienced than any of them .

Pros

Nice customers

Cons

Long hours petty complacent Lazy managment

Corrupt Management

Management have not got a clue how to manage people and only care about figures. Was a Team Leader myself but forced out due to being too caring and forgiving towards the staff and not treating them like rubbish which is the interserve way.If your family is on the management team though you can expect all the overtime you want or last minute holidays without issue. No loyalty in the company and will fabricate things if they no longer want you around.

Pros

4 days off

Cons

Management

Taxing, hard work but enjoyable.

There was no "typical day",every day had new challenges, with people relying upon me getting it right it could be a little stressful but very rewarding, learned that making a timely decision could make or brake the project. Management required delicate and diplomatic handling on many occasions sometimes causing fraught relationships with work force. The hardest part of the job was firing someone whilst the most enjoyablewas making the right decision and seeing the job done right. One day I would like to work for Interserve again.

Pros

Flexibility

Cons

There could be extremely long hours.

Work place

It's an ok place to work, very competive and a very fast work pace, working in hospital I tryd my hardest to work in a high standerd making sure I cleaned everything, but the pace was incredibly fast, therefore I couldnt accomplish my highbstanderd work, so very disappointing within the college's aspect.
