Shift Leader (Current Employee) - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire - 12 August 2022
busy and understaffed, so can be stressful. shift patterns are all over the place, so not good work/life balance. co workers are brilliant though and make work bearable

Fast-paced and goal oriented

Good place to work and the people are fun and collaborative. Management is understanding and supportive and are quite flexible around your needs. High turnover.

Fun opportunity to easily gain bar experience
Bar Associate (Current Employee) - Liverpool, Merseyside - 5 August 2022
Difficult to become bored on shift, as there is always something to do, colleagues are mostly friendly and if coming from no experience, exposure to opportunities to develop skills in dealing with problematic customers.

Ok place to work
Shift Leader (Former Employee) - Borehamwood - 4 August 2022
Overall an ok company to work. Good peiple and environment, but long hours and poor pay dont make up for it. Good as a stop gap but not as a career. Thanks

fast-paced
Bar Associate (Former Employee) - Yorkshire - 3 August 2022
It's decent for a part-time student job in terms of pay and hours but not for long- term. Will have to high tolerance for difficult customers to work here even part-time.

Fast paced
Shift Leader (Former Employee) - Gloucester, Gloucestershire - 3 August 2022
Although definitely not getting paid enough for the value of the work you do, if you like a fast paced environment working with a team to achieve the unachievable, this is your best bet.

Stressful
Shift Leader/Duty Manager (Former Employee) - Kingswood - 1 August 2022
Busy stressful environment. Where tasks need to be completed however with staff constantly sick or not turning up, poor management. Just doesn't help your mind at all. It's a very negative workplace that I feel needs improving alot. This job does nothing for your mental health .

You make friends but bad management
Bar Staff (Former Employee) - Chichester - 28 July 2022
Managers do not value you as a person and will certainly not appreciate anything you do for the company, waste of time working there. They do not give you time to learn and make you feel unwanted and undervalued

Good Pay For Hospitality (But Hard Work)
Shift Manager (Current Employee) - Scotland - 28 July 2022
Company expect a lot of work to meet parameter and sales targets. Often a constant juggle between money saving and and service standards to attempt to hit some unachievable target's and KPI's from upper management. You will have loads of opportunities to progress and you will receive a good pay packet, especially compared to a lot of other hospitality.
Pros
Salary, Progression, Opportunity To Transfer/ Relocate
Cons
Workload, Working Hours

Loved my time at wetherspoons
Shift Leader @ The Cuthbert Brodrick (Former Employee) - Leeds - 27 July 2022
Met friends for life, and learnt many a skill. Would still be there if it wasn’t for how they treated us during the first lockdown and covid. Some good managers, some bad, just like everywhere

Stressful but people made it amazing
Shift Leader (Former Employee) - High Wycombe - 27 July 2022
So I worked at JD Wetherspoons for a year and I couldn’t have asked to work with a better bunch of people but saying that team morale was down and no one did anything. Putting pressure on the bar staff to make sure the kitchen was looked after but not looking after the floor or bar staff. There’s no rewarding their staff. At some points I was doing 40 hours on a 16 hour contract .. no team meetings you expect to just do the job and that’s it. I was promoted twice in the space of the year so promotions are good but when most the staff is constantly drained stressed and upset something needs to be looked at other than that a good company

Fast paced and stressful
Associate (Former Employee) - Colchester, Essex - 26 July 2022
It can be nice working there but also very stressful as there’s not much reward. Management can pick favourites and if you’re not one of them then good luck
Pros
Free lunch and a discount
Cons
Unsociable hours, favouritism

I loved working here
Shift Manager (Former Employee) - Sudbury - 24 July 2022
I recommend that anyone looking to start a career in hospitality starts here. I loved working here and learned a colossal amount. The steps on the career ladder are quite close together here so progression can be quite rapid if that’s what you want. When you get up to the narrow end things get a little tougher so that might be the time to look elsewhere. But I have a million great memories of my time as a ‘spoony’

Pretty Good
Bar Staff (Current Employee) - Manchester - 23 July 2022
All staff are very helpful and supportive. Shifts can have a lot of variety so that keeps things fresh. Can feel pretty rewarding at times. Overall I would recommend choosing to work here.
Pros
Free Meal and Drink on Break
Cons
Shift times can be erratic.

Avoid if you want a life!
A very well run establishment for the company and it's regulars. If you don't have family, social commitments and wa t to earn a low wage this place is gor you. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed working there, it was very busy (understaffed) so the shift went quicker, but workload and false agreements on shift patterns lead to a unhappy work/social life balance. Having any disagreement with how things are run or how you are treated will lead to disciplinary procedures. This place (if it was not so profit minded) could be a great place to work. Shame!
Pros
Great staff, regulars
Cons
Poor wages, work/life balance

Depends on management
Kitchen Assistant (Current Employee) - Worcester, Worcestershire - 20 July 2022
Good staff, good pay, unsocial hours and management can make the job unbearable. Have worked their for a long time and the job has been the best and worst I've had

Was pretty good
Shift Manager (Former Employee) - Sheffield - 20 July 2022
Training and career enhancement was good. Some management and management styles were not good. Can become toxic very quickly. Area managers also can be toxic. Overall however I enjoyed my time there and got some good experience under my belt
