Fun place to work
Shift Manager (Current Employee) - Oxford, Oxfordshire - 24 November 2023
Bit tough on the work life balance and the people you work with absolutely make or break it. Can be challenging at times but lots of support for you if needed.

Over worked
They got some silly people working there that lit can't do their job so you're forced to do extra. They won't listen to how many hours you can work. Don't tell them where you live because as soon as they know you don't take the bus to get home they will make you work hours you could never do. Also don't work too hard because if you ever want to quit they'll get very angry at you.

Dont work there
Cleaner (Former Employee) - Hartlepool, Durham - 24 November 2023
Dont work there, it will be the biggest mistake youll ever make. Toxic work culture/cliques. Constant breaching of your contract regarding hours etc. No support if youre in a bad domestic situation with leads to mental ill health, just a wellbeing questionnaire and then find yourself sacked.
Pros
none.
Cons
bad management, toxic culture, cliques, no support for anything you might be going through outside of work

Okay, good pay.
Bar Associate (Current Employee) - Bexleyheath - 23 November 2023
Theyre pretty flexible with shifts, training is minimal, management dont do enough to protect employees from rude and aggressive customers. The pay is good though.

Fun workplace
Bar Staff (Former Employee) - London East, Greater London - 22 November 2023
It’s a job in a pub, but if you have the right people working with you, it makes you forget about the labour. Be ready to deal with strange behaviour!

Fun while it lasted!
Team Leader (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 22 November 2023
Really depends on which pub you work at! Lots of memories with great friends but can be tiring and hard work. Long hours, late nights, free food and an extra pound after midnight wasn’t too bad.

Overworked employees
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Rayleigh, Essex - 22 November 2023
Lazy staff members with no drive or work ethic. Would not recommend. Multiple reports made for harassment in the work place, no professionalism whatsoever. Overworked as no one wants to put some graft in.

Toxic
Bartender (Current Employee) - Guildford, Surrey - 20 November 2023
While it can be fun as staff can be friendly its very closed off as there are circles, management can be toxic (one TL called a shift team "useless") and can overlook issues and focus on the wrong ones

Kind but stressful
Floor Staff (Current Employee) - United Kingdom - 19 November 2023
Everyone I work with are lovely and welcoming and I get my shifts around my schedule. Busy days are always stressful especially when you’re new and staff can get a bit snappy but that’s because they’re under pressure and when new they tend to be nice since you don’t know food. The job is good, pay is good and the whole interview process was good and I’ve never been asked to do anything I couldn’t handle and the staff are always happy to help when needed. I could’ve just lucked out as I’ve seen many other floor staff get treated badly but given the place does their job properly it’s honestly such a good job.
Pros
Discounts, welcoming staff, flexible schedules.
Cons
rude customers, snappy staff when under pressure

Good place to work, bad management team
Good place to work, good job security, Bad management, they lie about hours, make promises they cannot keep, ‘One weekend in one weekend off’ - never in my 4.5 years there did I get a weekend off that I didn’t have to book or use my holidays for. Management were lazy, didn’t seem to care for anything but themselves.
Pros
Free staff food
Cons
Awful shifts

Fun place to work and always opportunity to progress through the company
Shift Leader (Current Employee) - Lancashire - 17 November 2023
Overall enjoyable company to work for and if you want you’ll be able to work your way through promotion I started as a bar associate and am now a shift leader (manager), you get to apply for shares from the company after being there for a certain amount of time, the quarterly bonus’ are a plus and you get to keep your own tips they aren’t shared.

Definitely depends on the pub / managers!
Team Leader (Former Employee) - Plymouth, Devon - 17 November 2023
Spent just over 4 years working for Wetherspoons and overall had a great experience working for the company, however I have seen staff being treated poorly if you are not liked or favoured by managers… a very “clicky” environment and some of the company policies are just stupid / ridiculous when it comes to the sickness policies for example. Weekly pay was good and can be a very good place to work but definitely depends on the pub and what their management team is like

Overworked underpaid
Kitchen Assistant (Current Employee) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire - 15 November 2023
Soul destroying. Area managers are awful. Bark ordered but have no idea what's actually going on. High targets to meet with barely any staff. Ridiculous criteria to meet to get a bonus. All or nothing, you either get 100% or you get zero bonus
Pros
Free meal
Cons
Depressing
