Easy Place to work, Make Good Friends

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I found that at JD you can learn everything quickly as long as you are confident and not afraid to make mistakes. The management will constantly be changing so you will never be used to one style of management. If you are 16-20 years old then you should have no trouble making friends and building working relationships as its quite a laidback and modern enviroment. The pay is not relevant to the amount of jobs you have to do, if compared to other retailers and their pay. This would be the main issue for most people as you do feel like you are not getting paid what you are worth.

Pros

1 Hour Unpaid Break, Friendly Staff

Cons

Bad Pay, Changing management, Rude Customers

Awful place to work

Worked here for 1.5 years and I cannot wait to leave. The management are awful, they treat you like you’re their friends and speak to you in an extremely unprofessional manner. Blatant favouritism and staff get treated differently. What is the point in holidays when they get declined every time you put them through without reason? The hours are long and If you work part time, and go to college or school etc say goodbye to any kind of weekend or break. The pay is shocking, and you’re always pushed to sell extras so the manager gets a bonus- you don’t gain anything from this!!Avoid at all costs. Awful company to work for

Pros

Discount

Cons

Pay, long hours

it’s an ok first job

minimum wage decent managers hours can be long sometimes and not being able to listen to your own music or have a phone on you during work isn’t great

Pros

Cons

not good pay

Fun but often overworked

I went into the job believing I would be on an 8 hour contract. I would always be put on extra shifts (even when I asked not to be) and always work overtime. Whilst I love the people I work with, management is often unorganised and as a result, we all suffer. For minimum wage, JD certainly expects maximum effort! However, I can not fault the atmosphere as the people I work with are amazing and make long shifts go quick. The discount is capped at 750 a year for all part timers which can go very fast!

Pros

Can reserve good shoes/ new releases

Cons

Overworked

Bad Reputation is Understandable

The place has a bad reputation, which is understandable. Working in JD was the worst job I’ve had so far and definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anybody. The managers are rude and unprofessional. You are spoken to as if you’re incompetent and made feel stupid. You get given out to for the smallest things; like how pants are hung , and if you do something wrong it’s made a big ordeal of. Staff are seen as names on a sheet and managers will give you the cold shoulder and cut your hours if you have an appointment or need time off work.I came into work every day feeling on edge and got a headache every day for the first two weeks from worrying about what kind of mood management was going to be in. As far as I know, most of the other staff disliked it too and at least five people left while I was there (which wasn’t very long). The rota always came out last minute and hours were unpredictable. The only little bit of a positive from working here were the other staff members my age as we could go on lunch together and stuck together as most of us felt tense in the job and disliked it. To anybody who is thinking of applying here it isn’t worth the hassle to even suck it up for a temporary contract unless you’ve very very thick skin.

Pros

Pay is okay, pleasant coworkers

Cons

Bad atmosphere

Bad

Pay was so bad the people were really nice though. The hours were long it was 9-6 everyday and then training on some after. Most of the time got let out late.

Pros

People nice

Cons

Long hours and minimum wage

Great culture

Obviously this is a minimum wage job so there is nothing much to expect, but there is a great culture around this company and Finishline. You feel like you belong there if you enjoy sneakers as much as anyone else there.

Only if you have to

If you need a job for experience then work here, staff are not paid or treated good enough to care, management is even worse. You can get good management but they don't last very long meaning the shift pattern you had with the old management could change. How you function in the work place is dependent on manager, if there nice then it can be a decent low paying job, if there not it can be tedious especially as lots dont help. Also if your store has security it can improve the experience if not then they expect you do that which is something they try and force upon you but isn't your job.

Pros

You get to see some new stuff

Cons

Rota is unstable and pay is bad

Terrible Management

Typical day involves running around serving rude customers, managers never put enough people to work so you are always overworked for minimum wage. The hierarchy for management is awful, chained management seem to only care about themselves and not other staff. Management don't do any work and expect sales assistants to do everything for them, staff are never treated with any respect. The rota is never done in any advance so you will only know the day before the week commencing when you are working that week. Don't bother applying for the Manchester branch.

Pros

discount after three month probation period

Cons

Management, Rota, minimum wage, overworked

Good and bad place

I work in footwear for about 8mths, they put too much pressure on selling crep, if u don't sell you lose hrs the next week, but its not like youbcan force a customer to buy it ygþý management treat u like kids have to ask to go to toilet. If you work 24 or 32hr shifts, you never know what days, or hrs you are gonna be put in for the next week so you can't plan anything out of work. If you have plans on a particular day you have to find cover yourself. Or they expect you to be in The actual job can be confusing with missing sizes etc, rude customers, But obviously a lot of nice customers too. They do expect you to do training processes out of work, and send snotty messages if this is not done by a certain time

Pros

Colleagues are friendly

Cons

Long hours, no consistency with shifts, would be better to have fixed shifts in place so you can plan your life around work.

Awful management, toxic environment

After working in the company for years I’d seen a lot of different people pass through the job, but for some odd reason they really loved promoting those who were underaged/ inexperienced/ just plain daft. So it was an endless cycle of clowns being in mid management and totally mistreating staff that have been there 4 days and also those that have been there 4 years. Pay is terrible for what you have to deal with between customers and management. Only decent thing is it’s somewhat flexible for college. Just don’t let some of them know you’re in college otherwise they’ll treat you like you’re the scum of the earth. Some people that you work with are nice but it’s down to character

Pros

Flexibility

Cons

Ridiculous hours, poor management and pay

Awful management and store

The store was falling apart- so many health and safety issues! Stairs overcrowded- fire escapes blocked with rubbish.Min wage- force you into overtime and when you don’t want it they threaten your job. Management were useless, had me trained up as supervisor after 4 months, but wasn’t actually trained. They also encourage staff to stop shoplifters, with promises of bonuses which never get paid, staff are putting them self in danger without any training.

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours, poor management, health and safety issues.

Pros

Nessuno

Cons

Stipendio, management, servizi

Great staff, not so great management

There is lots of favouritism in this workplace, if you’re not friends with one of the supervisors or not well liked then you will get the rubbish jobs. You only get shifts if you ask for them, regardless of what your contracted hours are. Management is also very emotionally manipulative in terms of selling crep - an add-on that you can sell with trainers. You get threatened weekly if you’re not selling enough, despite it not being in the job description. Majority of the staff are actually lovely and easy to get along with, which is mainly what makes the job bearable. But very long hours and you don’t get paid enough for what you have to put up with to be honest. Good for part time work but definitely not long term.

Pros

25% discount, also you’ll make friends

Cons

Long hours, favouritism amongst management and staff
