I did not enjoy it
Manufacturing Engineer (QA/QE) (Former Employee) - Birmingham, West Midlands - 13 May 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWorked here as an undergraduate manufacturing engineer. The training and support for undergrad was non-existence. Work was slow to come by and when they do, they are usually too mundane to worth 17k a year I was being paid. That being said, I did a short placement with the engineering team and found it really interesting. The culture and pace in engineering is completely different from manufacturing.

Fast paced and unpredictable at times
Maintenance (Former Employee) - Wolverhampton, West Midlands - 12 May 2022
Better than it has been, just as I was leaving the maintenance structure was improving and moving to a much needed dedicated structure - seemed like it was heading in the right direction. Still a way to go to catch up other sites on terms and conditions however - the same role at other sites can expect to earn 10k more for doing 2 hours less a week. Shift patterns can change pretty quickly without much warning.
Pros
Canteen facilities are better than most companies
Cons
Favouritism does happen but thats the same of any company.

Good salary to be treated poorly
Apprentice Maintenance (Former Employee) - Solihull, West Midlands - 5 May 2022
TLDR; you'll get a very good salary once you're qualified, however this is to make up for the fact you will be a faceless number to management. You will be messed around - moved repeatedly to new areas with unfamiliar equipment and job roles/responsibilities, given little to no support, training or tools, whilst being pressured. Starting as an apprentice you'll train at a college full time. The training received is not very relevant. Basic skills are taught but for the most part will not be used day to day at work. Steadily over time you'll be placed in plant somewhere to pick up the job. Be prepared to follow people around and generally be treated like a nuisance. The older guys see apprentices as a hazard, an extra burden that can 'land them in the S#÷T'. Younger guys that have done the apprenticeship themselves may understand what it was like and be willing to offer some guidance and relevant training. Training offered or organised by management? Non-existent. There will be no plan in place, you will be moved around various departments and blocks seemingly at random. There is no plan in place, so it's not malicious, however you will be moved at the exact moment you figure out the equipment, routine faults and how to fix them, and/or once the guys on shift have accepted you. Overtime and shift working is available to some apprentices but not others. It all depends on the attitude of the manager you're placed under. So be prepared to miss out on valuable learning opportunities as most planned maintenance is carried out on afternoon or night shifts. (This can hamper you later -

Fun workplace on shop floor but management are terrible
Maintenance Engineer (Current Employee) - Castle Bromwich, West Midlands - 15 April 2022
Worked here within maintenance for many years at CB. Good pay when on shifts and overtime but management see you as a “number” and have no respect for people on the shop floor.
Pros
Occasionally have real good offers on cars
Cons
Formal training courses are very rarely offered

Pay was and is the only good part
Production Operative (Former Employee) - Halewood - 10 April 2022
The pay is the only reason I started there, you get treated like sh##e and management use discipline as away of getting the most out of you, you are watched and timed on your job, there never enough time to do the job in the first place but they want more. I had a death and had time of and came back to early and had a mental brake down, to which I was signed off sick and then disciplined twice for being off

Great company to work for
Intern (Former Employee) - Solihull, West Midlands - 5 April 2022
-Very diverse and ever evolving, dynamic team. -Great variety of areas to grow and learn from. - Management generally speaking, listens to employees and take into account their concerns and points of view. -Fast paced environment means always having things to do and now with -Agile being able to step up and support on topics that are more relevant or interesting for you. Having fun is possible! - Opportunites to progress your carrer and move vertically and horizontally. - Hybrid working available -Working for a well known and established brand (pair of brands) - Opportunities to test drive the products you work with. - Good range of bennefits (great pension scheme, great maternity leave package, great range of discounts and offers for JLR employess...)

Good set of skilled blokes but those above spoilt it
Fabricator/Welder – contract (Former Employee) - Castle bromwich - 3 April 2022
Worked on the contract side so we were the lowest of the low plenty of money to be earned but bad management skills no communication would not listen to time served welder fabricators on how to run Me department to little to late as it could have been so good. Onwards and upwards.

Overall a good company to work for
Senior Cover Man (Former Employee) - Solihull, West Midlands - 26 March 2022
Worked for them for 8 years overall I have good memories and was paid more than fairly. The job was towards the end becoming more and more difficult with more expectations and demand. The company I would work for them in the future again but needed a break from the monotonous tasks daily.
Pros
Well paid
Cons
Poor breaks and rule culture

Overall not a bad place to work but room for improvement
Maintenance Engineer (Current Employee) - Halewood - 22 March 2022
Good pay and benefits but could be run better from a management point of view, old school management styles. Lack of experienced heads in certain departments and reluctance to externally recruit to help improve processes and techniques.

Line production operator
Line Operator (Former Employee) - Liverpool, Merseyside - 10 March 2022
My time at jlr for 6 years was constantly getting told to do manual jobs repeatedly over and over with no appreciation for the outcome felt like I was just a robot and the management have a bullying culture that's ingrained in the factory, the management looks for ways to sack people all the time instead of encouraging people to get on they think this is their role to get rid of people ,very horrible atomsphere to work in

Good people, good company overall, progress slow
CAE Specialist (Current Employee) - Whitley - 23 February 2022
Everyone who works here is great. The company has a long history and hence established systems. Has updated its work culture recently to include remote working. Progress through promotion can be quite slow.
Pros
Friendly and helpful teams.
Cons
Promotion difficult.

Awful management team . Can't keep good techs
Vehicle Technician (Former Employee) - Slough - 23 February 2022
Was a nice fun place to work at the start but rapidly whent down hill . In the 3yrs I was there I had 5 aftersales managers and 4 heads of business. Current management team are not interested in staff and will just turn on you for the littlest things . Will never work for them again under jardine motors
Cons
Poor management, staff turnover, good staff have all left

Terrible attitude of middle management / childish attitude of process leaders / no people skills
Not willing to say (Current Employee) - Not willing to say - 22 February 2022
JLR put on a good front, act very woke and P.C to the public and business as a whole. If your in the manufacturing side of thing your are an expendable asset and will be treated as such. Be under no illusion that the work / life balance is utterly terrible. The are constantly cutting back costs and making the job near impossible to achieve targets. The staff turnover is horrendous as instead of hiring people, they double peoples workloads. There is also no respect from management unless someone is taking a picture of video that will be seen by the public.
Pros
Money used to be good.
Cons
Union is weak and break promises constantly, Constant shift changes, Treat people like idiots, Unsociable hours, Always extending hours, Mandatory weekends, Dirty working conditions, Facilities are poor, Very very very weak middle management

Fun with lots of opportunities for improvements
Graduate Software Engineer (Current Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 16 February 2022
Very interesting work happening in Manchester, taking advantage of state-of-the-art cloud technologies. Cars are a pretty cool product to be working on. I have gained a lot of software engineering experience in a start-up like culture and there are plenty of opportunities to advance.
Pros
Free coffee, Placement opportunities in other teams every 6 months, Helpful colleagues, State-of-the-art technology, Agile teams
Cons
Not enough ambition, Startup culture in Manchester may lead to a lot of changes in team structure

Good money, poor management
Line Operative (Former Employee) - Halewood - 3 February 2022
You're just another one, any managers don't even look at you. When they reduced the shift, many good people lose their jobs, but if you have someone who works there, father, uncle, you can work with less force than your job is guaranteed. I met a person who worked with her sister and her father also ... Are they all very talented?
Pros
salary
Cons
group leaders tired, no motivated, productions leaders no qualifications for the job is pathetic
