Answered 2 September 2019External jobs are advertised on the Company website at www.jameshall.co.uk. The normal process would be to apply online, shortlist for interview, interview and then decision. Some roles may require more than one interview. Depending on the vacancy the recruitment process may involve some form of testing or a presentation but you will be kept up to date with what is required for each vacancy. You will need to bring eligibility documentation if you get through to interview stage and if you are to work in one of the Post Offices you will be required to complete further checks (legal requirement).
Answered 24 September 2019There is a fixed premium rate for working on a bank holiday of £8.31p/h. Christmas Day is paid at 3 x's basic rate.
Answered 10 July 2019Improve recruitment. Have someone specialised in recruitment and working closely with the management team during interviews at all sites. Unbiased recruitment support would likely save a lot of time and money, as skills/knowledge/experience would be a priority (whereas now, there are cases of people being hired/promoted because they know someone, and not because they are fit for the position).
Answered 12 November 2019All jobs require eligibility to work in the UK documentation and this should be brought to your interview and checked again at the point you are offered a job with the Company. Roles in retail where you may be required to work in a Post Office will require further checks but these will be discussed at interview with you. All positions in the Company require two employment references, one of these must be from your last employer again, this will be discussed with you at interview/job offer stage.

Asked 28 July 2019Make sure you absolutely research james Hall company, who they are, where they began, forget about spar, it's James Hall they want you to know about.
Answered 25 September 2020I am proud to work for a brand that is not only recognised as one of the biggest employers in the North West of England but is also part of the multi-national brand of SPAR. James Hall has expanded its business from being a wholesaler to wholesaler/retailer and more recently manufacturer supplying food goods to not only their own stores and independent SPAR retailers but also other business outside of SPAR group.
Answered 2 September 2019Hours are set but they have compulsory overtime which are given when busy
Answered 4 July 2020Open plan offices, very smart work environment
Answered 10 August 2019A lot of the departments here are target driven as it's production / manufacturing / transport etc and that means it's fast paced and sometimes very changeable - you have to be flexible and able to adapt. Recruitment is also difficult as again with a large amount of the workforce being based in manufacturing it is not always easy to keep staff.
