Inclusive and valued
Assistant Branch manager (Former Employee) - Havant - 21 June 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWorking here was inclusive and I always felt valued and challenged. Like all roles it has its stressful times but generally good team and colleagues make it worth while

Nice environment. Nice immediate colleagues. But senior management do not understand the business.
Various Roles (Current Employee) - Various - 23 May 2022
Really good bunch of people in the main. Get spoke to nicely and treated with respect. The business does its best to offer flexible working where it can. Unfortunately the career progression is limited and relevant proven track record in industry and good performance is not rewarded with promotion opportunities. Senior management find it difficult to challenge and stretch the staff as they don't really understand the business. However the package and salary is really Good for the expected work load.
Pros
Flexibility good salary.
Cons
Too corporate.

Not a bad company to work for
Internal Sales (Former Employee) - Mansfield, Nottinghamshire - 13 May 2022
Not a bad company to work for. Jewson is part of Saint Gobain so there are many employee benefits, including a car lease from them. The wage isn't that great comparing what they want from you in return
Pros
Good benefits
Cons
Stressful

Lots of opportunity
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Somerset - 25 April 2022
Lots of opportunities if you work hard and know the right people. Lots of training and development is available. Company in general is behind the times and struggling to catch up.

Decent people to work with but yard staff could do with proper training
HGV Class 2 Driver (experience up to 32T) (Current Employee) - Kenley - 23 April 2022
No training for yard staff, can be employed as a forklift driver with no formal loading training so if your truck gets loaded when you go home you may have to rearrange the whole load in the morning

Jobs at Jewson
No loyalty
Tool Hire Supervisor (Former Employee) - Ayr - 7 April 2022
Constantly chasing unrealistic targets. Very much a clique work environment. Health and safety applies when it suits them. The lack of support and lack of knowledge from the branch managers was astounding.
Pros
Better than claiming dwp
Cons
Not an enjoyable work environment.

Okay as a stepping stone
Tool Hire Supervisor (Former Employee) - Leeds, West Yorkshire - 4 April 2022
This job is okay as. Stepping stone to move further in your career, plenty of opportunities for progression if you put the work in, down side pay is rather low for the industry

I’ve worked at 2 branches
HGV Class 2 Driver (Current Employee) - Peterborough - 11 March 2022
Jewson was a great company to work for until I moved to there area flagship branch then it was all down hill stock not picked or banded correctly. Was promised a pay increase in-line with the other driver but was told that costs are too high and was not able to fulfill that promise. Stock damaged so when getting to the customers I would constantly have to apologise and try and help them as much as I could.
Pros
All the other branches are sound and friendly
Cons
Avoid Peterborough branch

Local driving and company will take care of your hiab, cpc etc
Class 2 Hiab Driver (Current Employee) - Bury St. Edmunds - 8 February 2022
Can be challenging getting the lorry into residential properties, easy enough work, let the crane do the graft... most customers are easy going, on sites etc..
Pros
Cost plus 5% on building materials, cpc taken care of. Well maintained trucks.
Cons
Bogged down in health and safety..

Great teamwork management will push you too hard
Hiab Driver (Former Employee) - Herne Bay - 8 February 2022
You have to work on a Saturday for nothing so 120 hours a year you don’t get pay for . Wages are one of the worse for hiab drivers. Lot of back stabbing so have to be careful also have managers followed you and taking pictures so always looking over your shoulder
Pros
Yard people great
Cons
Poor wages long hours

Good people, awful pay
Credit Controller (Former Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 25 January 2022
Good people to work with most of the time. Losing good staff as the pay is not as good as other companies for the same role. Not much room for progression. Manager was good.

Will pull the wool over your eyes
Hgv driver (Former Employee) - Scotland - 25 January 2022
Have different pay for drivers somebody will be getting paid more than you for doing same job but they won't let on, expect you to work in heavy rain mud cold with kit that doesn't keep you dry or warm give you to much drops to do and they don't pay overtime if you go past your finish time tell you they will give you time in lue but you will not get it back they also use agency drivers getting used and they will be getting more than you
Pros
Buying building materials
Cons
Really poor wages
