Nice place of work provided

Indeed featured review

Good place of work especially if you begun with the colleagues you started the group assessment with. Management can be a little rude at times but, if you keep your head down you can enjoy the benefits after three months.

Great company that's trying to adapt

98% of staff are superb, like EVERYWHERE there's one or two awkward people but the company is aware and very supportive. Work is very autonomous, some teams are better at forward thinking and more organized than others.

Pros

Nice people, looking to improve, work life balance, knowledgeable staff

Cons

Few awkward team members, teams duplicating work at times, communication between teams could be better

Great place to work

Great place to work! Would highly recommend for someone who is driven, conscientious and ambitious. Inspiring leaders, good work life balance and you feel like you have a voice in the company.

Pros

Great exposure to the wider business, opportunities to take on bigger challenges outside your day-to-day role, great leadership

Cons

Sometimes difficult to progress

Not the company everyone thinks they are.

Just a number and not a partner ,most people quit after 2 days as there is no health and safety on the road , hernia and back problems are common with workers.

Bad management

John Lewis are badly managed and also pay low rates for the work that has to be done. The organisation of the company is very bad, never expected it for a large company such as John Lewis. The way staff are treated isn’t good as well.

Stepping Stone

Only work here as a stop gap to go onto better things. Nice to your face but will stab you in the back. No job security, no way to progress onwards and retail will be online only in 5 years time.

Pros

Subsidised canteen

Cons

Convincing you you are important

Great money if you can jump the hoops but beware of managers

The money is great if you can jump through the hoops. If you’re off, if your hurt, if you make a mistake then expect to be gutted for it and not get a pay rise. Suck up their backside and you’ll be on £15 an hour within a year and a half. Some managers are great, some are good and some are horrendous. The place can be so backwards at times, expect you to fit washing machines without any tools. They provide you with tools eventually. They will send you out with agency who’ve never done the job before or some who don’t speak any English. Most of the delivery guys who work there are great and you get a good laugh with them but beware the admin if you need anything. Second to none for driver compliance and the wage you get for the job you do. You will be tacho trained no matter what because they hammer it into you. Time to deliver items can be horrendous as you never know what you’re going in to. Work 4 days a week, 3 Saturdays out of 5. Work life balance is pretty good. Never work a Sunday. Some O/T opportunities but there is forced O/T at Christmas time of a few days.

Pros

Free cpc every year, work life balance, no Sunday work

Cons

Some management are temperamental, 11 hour shifts, hammered for any mistakes made.

Limited job security

The partnership is a brilliant place to work, culture between stores varies. The team are fantastic, they make it what it is. The management at this store were super supportive although I know that it's not the same for others.

Pros

Discount

Cons

Limited progression, poor job security

Hospitality without the tears

We work in a friendly but professional hotel that looks after only John Lewis and Waitrose Partners. This means we are offering a great holiday experience to our colleagues from other branches. There are many returning guests who love the hotel and the surrounding area.We have good live in rooms with all meals included for a nominal rent. We have a good rota which gives your time off and your working days for a full year so you can plan your holidays and we get one weekend in three off. We are close to Ambleside and the Lake so really easy to get around the area.We are all Partners and therefore have the benefit of working for a large organisation that has been incredibly supportive over the last year while Covid 19 erupted. No-one has lost pay or their jobs due to the pandemic.

Pros

All meals for live in staff or meals on duty for live out. Rewarding work life balance, happy work colleagues

Cons

Small hotel - 24 rooms so expected to work in all departments if asked, usually due to unexpected time off from other Partners

avoid

It is one of those places that your face has to fit to work here. Some management are great but the vast majority are back stabbers and boot lickers who swan around all day looking busy but not doing anything. The vast majority of partners are great but a number of them see john lewis as some kind of messiah and that is all they talk about. One last thing I look at john lewis as a shiny new fesh apple looks good on the outside but is rotten to the core!

Micro Managed Stupidity

JLP do not care about their colleagues, no back up or support, exceptionally poor training and communication across all areas. Management hide in ivory towers reluctant to help when needed the most. The worst company by far to work for in terms of work-life balance by a mile!

Pros

None

Cons
