Productive workplace
Engineer (Former Employee) - Royston, Hertfordshire - 1 December 2023
No major issues. Safety was paramount. Would recommend to others. Rapidly changing business that is adapting to the future, some headwinds but some tailwinds too.

Jobs at Johnson Matthey
needed more backing for projects
Process Technician (Current Employee) - Billingham-on-Tees, North Yorkshire - 27 November 2023
job was good and good benefits package but lacked structure and direction, getting hold of HR is a nightmare if you have any issues that need resolving.

Loads of autonomy, poor promotion prospects.
Procurement Analyst (Current Employee) - Royston - 7 November 2023
Very bureaucratic, promotion based on length of time at the company rather than skills. Poor career path visibility. On the plus side, good package in addition to average salary.

Team Leader
Team Leader (Former Employee) - Cambridgeshire - 7 September 2023
Since leaving JM I have realised that they do provide training and help if you ask for it. The salary is very good. Within my department the managers allowed me to get on with my work and there was sufficient autonomy within my role.
Pros
Autonomy within Team Leader role, salary, benefits, training.
Cons
If you were good at your job, they liked keeping you in that postion and not promoting.

Good mix of science and business
General Manager (Current Employee) - Royston, Hertfordshire - 14 August 2023
Good mix of science and business. company has a real focus on people, needs to improve processes as still too functional and not user-friendly enough. Great new strategy to drive the energy transition through innovation in catalysts and precious metals, with a circular business model.

Nice place to work until you get made redundant
Accounts Assistant (Former Employee) - United Kingdom - 24 July 2023
Was great place to work, hours were flexible and team was nice but we got made redundant and jobs were sent to Malaysia. We weren’t the only department to be made redundant in the span of a couple of years.
Pros
Flexible hours
Cons
Risk of redundancy at any time to cut costs

Okay
Research Scientist (Current Employee) - Sonning Common - 14 June 2023
Work is good if you are passionate about science and research but can be boring sometimes. Also seems like progression is very slow and takes years to get a promotion

Relaxed company
Deputy key account manager (Former Employee) - Royston - 8 June 2023
Decent company to work for. No need to work extra hours. Company in Royston, Herts, has just gone through a dreadful redundancy plan as a chunk of the production has been moved to Eastern Europe. Top Management is disconnected from the company. HR is confused. Lack of consistency overall.
Pros
Free canteen.
Cons
Slow and disorganised. Poorly ran

Good place to work
Development Technician (Former Employee) - Reading - 3 May 2023
Unfortunately for myself I was offered a job in one location and after 3 months I was still working in a location 1 hour from my home. Had to leave to much travelling only if I was told this at the interview it would have saved a lot of wasted time.

Forward thinking company
Chemical process operative (Former Employee) - Brimsdown - 29 March 2023
Good place to work. Very long hours though. Great benefits. Pay is pretty good. Shifts can mess with your health but company provides regular health monitoring and access to doctors

Aggressive management
Retired (Former Employee) - Cambridge - 25 March 2023
Bully tactics, change shift pattern time and time again. No help available. They say there is but it wasn't forthcoming. Management would not listen when to my view on health and safety. Install new machines and new procedures without consultation.
Pros
Free coffee good holiday yearly bonus.
Cons
Shift working, security checks.

Typical for thus type of industry
PROJECTS (Current Employee) - Royston - 1 March 2023
Mostly positive, can be stressful, interesting, challenging, unique with some of their process. I imagine a materials/ metallurgy specialist aladons cave. Friendly and surprisingly helpful core staff. Some World class individuals. Mostly calm, but I find there housekeeping needs significant improvement.
Pros
Free lunch (we obviously pay indirectly)
Cons
Security is stringent it can ad an hour to a dsys contract work.

A pleasant place to work
Test Engineer (Former Employee) - Royston, Hertfordshire - 16 February 2023
Johnson Matthey is a nice place to work. The management and every team members support you to achieve your goals. A truly inclusive place to work with lots of benefits and professional development. Had it not been for travel distance, I genuinely would have been there. I miss the place and only place that offers 3 course meal for free to all its employees
Pros
Free lunches
Cons
Almost same type of work every day
