Good perks

Good free products, training, Debenhams managers were awful, got to be creative, not much room for progression, sick policy was awful, loved my colleagues

Fantastic company but reshuffle needed

An amazing company however management needs a reshuffle within shop floors. Benefits within the company are great and I would recommend the company to anyone within the industry but be cautious as the turn over is high.

Amazing family feel and support

Management is great. The brand really makes you feel like you are a part of the family and have a great community and culture. There is also good support and training. You learn a lot about makeup and the products they sell. I worked on a rota basis but i was able to have a lot of input and took childcare into consideration. The best makeup brand to work for. You also get lot's of freebies and discounts! The company really looked after staff during covid. A typical day is trying to bring customers in and tracking sales through the day, keeping the store cleaning and tallying up sales at the end. The sales targets can be daunting at first. It is more about sales than beauty. You do not need to be a beauty expert but just need to learn how to use the products. Helps to have a full face of the brands products on too.

Shifts and retail

Good discount and benefits, lots of free products. However the training isn’t great, and management aren’t very supportive. The hours can be long as it is a retail environment.

Pros

Allocation

Cons

High targets

Beauty consultant

Great job, you meet some lovely girls and you can mess around with make up. It is a sales roles, with targets ect. It’s so much fun working on the beauty counters. Not enough hours or pay unfortunately

Pros

Free make up and staff shop

Cons

Not enough hours and too much competition with other brands.

Not the best

Absolutely disappointed with everything apart from the free products. Terrible management, no balance between work and personal life, long shifts, terrible pay. Find another job! The managers don’t care about you even if you do your best.

Pros

Free products

Cons

Everything else

boring

poor pay, boring , high pressure , low team moral , free products being the only pro. c omission based on targets but targets unachieveable . pressure and no social life with a very poor wage

tough

Little flexibility from company but employee expected to be fully flexible and make changes to work reschedule and days off without notice. The Job itself is great but not very well managed and organised, I have come to realise that this is to be expected in retail.

Stay away

I was hired as a beauty advisor to work on this counter. I was probably one out of about 5 people in the entire beauty department who was even a qualified makeup artist. The counter is always extremely quiet, and as a young millennial, I worked my butt off to draw customers over to the counter, running my own events, but got no recognition for it. My probation period ended, and resulted in me staying permanently. I was given a target to meet with the counter in terms of money, they wanted to push me a little harder. This was just a casual conversation. I then unfortunately fell really ill and could not work for a number of weeks, when i returned to work. I was told that because I did not take as much money on the counter as they wanted, they had to terminate my contract. They also said "that before I fell ill, they had extended my probation period and if I did not meet the desired targets that they would have to terminate my contract" Now, A. this conversation never took place, nor did they ask me to sign anything agreeing to the extended probation time, so I had no idea what they were talking about because they had never said this to me. B. Whilst I was off ill, of course I couldn't of pushed the counter to it's highest potential, and meet the targets they wanted. So in the end they terminated my contract. I was treated like dirt on the bottom of someone's shoe. Stay away people.

Pros

shifts were short with the opening and closing times, therefore i could get out there asap

Cons

Great benefits

L'Oreal are great to work for as they have great benefits and opportunities for staff to progress. Although the days can be long, especially on a makeup counter, it is a fun and exciting environment to work in.

Fun working environment.

Always something new happening, management are brilliant and help you when you need it. Co workers create a fun and happy work enviroment! the hardest part of the job is meeting targets when its not busy and the most enjoyable is the customers you meet and get to interact with, getting to play with make up.

Pros

commission

Cons

unsociable hours

Fun and interactive workplace

A typical day at work is mainly dealing directly with the customers travelling through Heathrow. Some customers already know what they want, some would like recommendations or some would like a demonstration or consultation. In this job I've learn sales skills and managing a beauty counter as well as working as a team. Depending on who the co workers are, it can range from being either very enjoyable or not. The hardest part of the job is facing customer criticisms which is directed to the company however we must deal with this. Some things which is only at managements control we have no influence over. The most enjoyable part of the job is the shift work and some coworkers are really nice to work with.

fun workplace

Whilst working for Urban Decay i learnt a lot of customer service experience and skills of how to deal with customer complaints. i was running a counter alone, so making sure all the customers that approached my counter we're pleased with the service they received was very important.
