Really enjoy being a library assistant. The work is varied, the other staff great to work with and it's satisfying helping customers.I enjoy the variety of also covering at other libraries, all the people I meet there are equally pleasant.

Pros

Access to lots of books

Cons

Good manager and flexible holiday

Can't complain with much really, sometimes poor communication with upper management when required, didn't deal very well with greivance, however line manager and her support team have always been there when required and thorough with information.Loved working for LCC over the years.

Poor management

Felt unappreciated by uncaring managers. Too high workloads. LCC has a lot of unhappy employees due to higher managers unrealistic expectations. Managers inconsistent change the goal posts constantly.

Pros

Can work from home

Cons

Too high case loads

Rewarding,fun,sence of achievment, making a difference .

Professional, person centred, for people using the service and employees, approachable and understanding, only let down for myself as an employe is the new Oracle Fusion when it is eventually up and running after a lengthy progress I hope everyone who uses it can use it for the purpose it is installed for because at the moment it is an ongoing stress to new employees ,employees just can't afford to wait to be able to use the system ,eventually good staff with great potentiL will quit the job ,due to not being paid or be able to do online madatory training ,this is a shame because working for Lancashire County Council is and should be a real privilege 👍

Pros

To work with and support amazing people

Cons

ORACLe FUSion system is a big let down

Stifling and no room for innovative thinking

Staid unimaginative culture. Obsessed with process and unable to think in any depth to meet the challenges the organisation faces going forward. A place for bureaucratic compliance if you want to be successful

Pros

Flexible working

Cons

Very unimaginative management unable to take on new ideas

Work for councils that you can progress in

Awful experience working there. The job role is very mundane and repetitive. Your not given the option of working in Multi-Skilled or Social Care they just plonk you wherever they think is best. Your not allowed to leave the premises on your breaks. There is no career progression unless you know the right people (as it is typical in some work environments - not what you know but who you know) and your also told off if your seen sharing a laugh with co-workers. If you wish to work at lancashire council then I would highly recommend you apply to work at the preston office because its a much better environment and there is genuine career progression there.

Pros

You get to learn about the different departments at the council you could apply for

Cons

Poor environment, mundane work, no career progression and extremely repetitive

Good experience

A generally good experience. Left due to needing more hours but enjoyed my time at the school in which I worked. Would recommend if wanting to progress career in childcare.

Poor Management

Looking back, I thought I had a good job and was receiving appropriate support, but now I realise just how toxic things were.A typical day at work - Sitting in front of your computer 9 - 5, Monday to Friday, doing the same tasks. Manager constantly on your back, when you're trying to do your job and hit your targets. What you learned - Even though changes were being made, they weren't to benefit employees. Made me realise that working for LCC has changed tremendously over the years, and there's really no room for progression. Management also only cared about numbers and hitting targets.Management - Definitely a fear of culture. On one hand they expect you to get on with your job, but on the other hand, you're being micromanaged, and get told off for using your own initiative. Not allowed to ask for a pay rise, or give any negative feedback without management getting angry and condescending. Constant nitpicking and being blamed.Workplace culture - I generally got on with my colleagues, but due to toxic management, there was a lot of blaming going on. There was also a bit of a clique, which was more noticable in service meetings. The hardest part of the job - Constantly walking on eggshells, being micromanaged, trying to meet unrealistic targets.the most enjoyable part of the job - The colleagues I got on with, where we were able to vent out our frustrations to each other, as we were all in the same boat.

Pros

Annual leave, pension, sick leave

Cons

Toxic management

Good place to be involved with, lots of options, training

Training, good experience, lots of help when needed. School lunches term time only in Pendle/Lancashire. Wages relevant to this area. Relocation to Windermere. Wages not .... Full time shifts !

Not enough hours given to do job well

Enjoy the job but they do not give you enough hours to do the job correctly. All about getting the job done but no support for employees if and when they have out of work problems

Good but challenging

Manager I was given free reign to adapt and change service delivery where needed. Unfortunately I was medically retired in 1999 I'm sure the fundamentals of the organisation have moved with the times.I am proud to have been there to implement change I'm sure you'll find this too .Good luck , if it looks appealing go for it.

Pros

Free to implement change

Cons

2 years+ to see full achievement. Staff in post before my appointment were scared or resented change

Good fast paced working environment.

I learnt a lot during my time at Lancashire and improved my assessment and interviewing skills. My written skills also improved as you are writing a high number of complex reports within tight deadlines.

Pros

Lovely office, good management and great opportunity to learn.

Cons

Long working hours, need to meet tight deadlines.

Overworked and underpaid

Kicked out the door despite being good at the job and saying if they could keep me they would! LCC is so political and are looking for yes people who will sacrifice their own children to put other peoples children first! Contradictive teaching methods, rubbish training and your just a number.

Pros

Colleagues, autonomy of workload

Cons

Everything else

Pros

Cons

None so far/must have own transport

Lovely people to work with

Always short staffed but good atmosphere in kitchen .Holidays are good but not allowed to go in term time unless you are a favourite ,I'm leaving in May as I'm not allowed my holidays in June no concessions, but other people in my kitchen have been given time off.LCC can't get people to work 2hours a day and our kitchen hasn't been fully staffed for 5 years so for the sake of 5 days off you would think they would allow it.

Pros

Holidays

Cons

Always short staffed

Covid worker

I had very little contact with LCC as I was sent to work at a local care home and dealt with the staff there. Can't really comment on LCC but the limited contact I did have with them was positive.
