Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedLovely team, can be hectic on the weekends but you have a supportive team. Last start and finish which is the downside to it. Other than that its cool place to work

I loved working here. Yes it can be stressful at times but that’s just normal in hospitality. I do think this company cares about their people and yes I would recommend working here. Food is amazing and so are the people. Good nice management team that helps you understand what the business wants.
Pros
Free staff food, nice understanding management team
Cons
Uhh stressful at times

Awful treatment
Waitress (Current Employee) - Temple street - 18 November 2023
Having worked here, they put me on longer rota hours than agreed, make me close up Saturday on my own after 1AM, I have several tables to manage as we're always short staff, wellbeing of staff is unfair treatment, when calling in sick, management are not happy and treat you terribly , low pay and over worked they don't care how you get home after 12AM They need reporting..

Not recommend
Commis chef (Current Employee) - Chelmsford, Essex - 13 November 2023
I enjoy the people I work with and the salary is ok but to be frank the management is incompetent at best they got their position by blending in to the wallpaper rather then being able to do their jobs they clearly can't run a shift or the staff and if you have any problems minor or major will be blamed on you and swept under the rug they will never give you any help or encouragement honestly it used to be a good company to work for but that is no longer the case I used to proud of my job and would recommend it to anyone I have not been able to do that for a while
Pros
Other staff members
Cons

The people are awful
Bartender (Former Employee) - Newcastle upon Tyne - 14 October 2023
Long unsociable hours for not a lot of pay. They expect you to learn the entire bar spec for cocktails and others in 2 shifts (impossible) and do not provide training before throwing you into a 12 hour shift on a Saturday peak time.

None
Cons
Long hours

Yes and No
Waitress (Former Employee) - Glasgow City Centre, Glasgow - 12 October 2023
I made a decent wage but had to work all the hours that god sent. Weekend work was understandably expected but the only time I ever got to see family on a weekend was if I used my holiday entitlement. Most of the time you were issued with a rota for your forthcoming week on a Sunday which I found very disrespectful to the staff. How can you plan you week properly? Therefore family and friends always having to wait to the last minute to make arrangements with you. Very, very busy place. On a Saturday on getting a half hour break on a on 10/11/12 hour shift which is probably illegal. All management worked hard alongside team at the busy periods although they were lacking life experience to deal with more everyday people situations requiring basic communication and disciplinary skills. Most of the team were hardworking, friendly and compassionate people. Apart from the above mentioned I mostly enjoyed working here but remember it’s part of a massive corporate machine who really don’t care about the individual. They will take but never give back when you most need support

Jobs at Las Iguanas
Unfulfilled Potential
Waiter (Former Employee) - Bath, Somerset - 8 September 2023
Worked here for around 2 years from 2021 - 2023. Place has not moved forwards in business direction and day to day consists of just reaching end of the shift. Massive lack of team building activities and basic human resource management from managers. Severe lack of understanding in how to motivate staff and how to get the best out of your staff. Couldn't fault the food and drinks. Managers are extremely generous on that which is great. However need a greater understanding of how to empower employees. Pay works in service charge which 50% goes to employee from each table, which is great on paper however method is clunky and not monitored day to day, which usually leads to mistakes in receiving correct service charge. Most enjoyable part is the customers as they will make or break your time there. End of the day, its waitering. You boost your confidence by talking to various types of people and the place will thrive if management structure was changed and employees feel more valued.

Disorganised and inconsistent operations
Manager (Former Employee) - United Kingdom - 2 September 2023
Feels to be just a number for the company. Not enough support from support office when hospitality business is going not great overall. It’s not about growing brand anymore as you clearly can tell that all they care is maximise next bonus.

Awful management
Management were awful, had favourites and expected too much. Changed shifts and expected you to cover on your days off or They would be rude towards you

Not bad
Waitress (Former Employee) - Leamington Spa, Warwickshire - 8 July 2023
Good management. Managers are very strict about topping up bottomless brunch drinks. Gets far too hot during summer. Closing takes around another half and hour

Nice staff, good food
Kitchen Porter (Current Employee) - Portsmouth - 14 June 2023
The big wigs will take a rota, cut it in half and give it back to the manager to deal with, extra stress for profits and it won’t matter if you ask for help because there’s no staff or hours for them. Genius ideas
Pros
Can be fun
Cons
Everything else

Fast place, long hours
Chef (Former Employee) - Birmingham City Centre, West Midlands - 13 June 2023
Good atmosphere among colleagues. Horrible schedules, they pay the minimum. I worked for a while and the salary increase was 0.25p. Work progression but you end up burning. Managers don't appreciate your work.

Poor management
Waitress (Former Employee) - Plymouth, Devon - 7 June 2023
I worked here during my time at university and was excited to leave for the sake of my mental health most of all. Management had clear favourites and if you weren’t one of those the job was a lot more stressful than it should be eg. Working multiple sections solo despite other staff being in and just standing talking to one another. The pay and hours also aren’t great. Being on minimum wage-£7.49 per hour with very little hours, asked for minimum 20 hours and most of the time would get a maximum of 6-8 which wasn’t enough with such low pay. Segregation between the different staff. Bar, floor and kitchen didn’t blend as well; smaller group divisions made it feel lonely alot of the times and very judged if not part of particular groups

Not a good work life balance
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - Torquay, Devon - 28 May 2023
Enjoyed working here but felt the work life balance was really poor expected to work a lot of over time with no increase to my salary. Learnt a lot in my time here and did enjoy it but don’t think I would work in a management role for a cooperate chain again.

17 July 2023Hello, We're really sorry to hear you didn't feel that you could have a good work/life balance whilst working with us. I would like to talk to you more about how we could have improved here. Please contact us direct at iguanashr@bigtablegroup.com
Favouritism and lack of teamwork
Managers showed favouritism to whoever they liked the most and completely neglected training staff. The “favourites” are allowed to take smoke breaks or just do absolutely nothing with zero issues even when it’s ridiculously busy. I felt unappreciated by management and taken advantage of by those I worked with. My mental health struggled a lot and no one cared until I left. It was fun to start with but I was very ready to leave when I did
