We kick off 2023 and by looking back at headlines generated by Leonardo over the last 12 months. From the start of the year which saw our engineers across the across the country being recognised for their achievements, to our Edinburgh team being awarded a Queen’s Award to Innovation and ending the year with news of Leonardo’s role in the next generation Global Air Combat Programme, it’s been another year to remember for those working at Leonardo. Leonardo in the UK
Leonardo is a global high-tech company and a leading player in Aerospace, Defence and Security. We employ over 7,000 people at seven sites across the UK and, at any one time, have with over 500 young people on our training programmes, including graduate schemes, apprenticeships and industrial placements. Diversity Programmes & Initiatives At Leonardo, we are strongly committed to supporting our people. As times, people and society change, our approach to inclusion and diversity continually evolves to reflect this. We know that having a variety of people from different backgrounds, cultures and approaches can, and does, enhance our working environment. Our aim is for Leonardo to be a welcoming, inclusive place to work for all of our people. People and Inclusion Committee Our People and Inclusion Committee leads the discussion and oversee the implementation of our I&D Plan. The committee includes members of our Senior Leadership Team, demonstrating their commitment and support, as well as members from within our business who have a passion for making more progress with our I&D work and have volunteered Employee Networks Our network groups are the place for like-minded people and their allies to come together, help shape engagement and lead associated educational initiatives to deliver an inclusive and consistent experience for everyone in the UK. - Pride is Leonardo’s LGBTQ+ employee network, run by a group of LGBTQ+ employees (and allies) who have come together to support each other and their fellow employees. The network holds regular meetings to provide advice and promote education and awareness of LGBTQ+ issues in the workplace. - Our Wellbeing network is run by employees, who promoting and supporting our Company charter that puts our people and their wellbeing at the heart of what we do. Our activities are centred around four pillars of wellbeing: physical, psychological, social and financial, all of which are reinforced by our trained wellbeing champions. - The aim of our Ethnicity Inclusion network group is to support us in attracting, recruiting and retaining talent from ethnic minority communities that will create a better and fair ethnicity balance within Leonardo at all levels. - Carers is a Leonardo network group run by a small number of employees with caring responsibilities, across all our UK sites. Caring responsibilities can range from looking after elderly parents, unwell partners or friends, to caring for children with specific needs. Carers exists to provide support to employees and raise awareness of the issues that carers face. - Our Enable network group is run by a team working to further support our UK colleagues living with visible and non-visible disabilities, as well as those who are neurodiverse, as part of Leonardo's commitment to enabling everyone to succeed and make the most of their talents. The group is focused on spreading awareness and understanding of all disabilities, including those that are not immediately apparent such as mental illness, chronic pain, neurological disorders and learning differences. - Equalise is Leonardo’s network group run by those who strive for gender equality within the workforce, in terms of both career development and opportunities. Equalise aims to provide support to employees, inform others about the issues that affect every gender, and dispel stereotypical assumptions in order to help truly reflect our modern workforce. Custom Working In September 2021, we launched Custom Working - a new model of work for our people in the UK. This approach empowers our teams to decide how they work in the future and, for many, where they work. Our remote working experiences have fast tracked our thinking on what it is possible to achieve, changing the way we work for the better for good. Armed Forces Covenant
Supporting the UK Armed Forces
Leonardo recognises the contribution that the members of the Armed Forces make to the nation through their service and sacrifices as a result of their duty. Therefore, we have a moral obligation to those who have served in the past, in the Armed Forces – whether Regular or Reserve – to those who are now serving, and of course to their families who play a significant role in supporting the Armed Forces members. Leonardo is a supporter of the “Armed Forces Covenant”, demonstrating its pledge to the Armed Forces Community and has been awarded the UK MoD’s Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award. As defined in our pledge, we have committed to uphold in our business dealings the key principles of the Armed Forces Covenant which are: - ‘No member of the Armed Forces Community should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen.’ - ‘In some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate for the injured or bereaved.’ Furthermore, as stated in our pledge, our commitments will include the active promotion that we are an armed forces-friendly organisation and publicise this within our organisation. We recognise the vital role our reservists play in helping to fulfil the capability of the UK Armed Forces.
