Great when your there..
Assembly Operator (Current Employee) - Leyland - 4 February 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI carn't fault the work, management etc WHEN on site. You are initially recruited through the agency. In this arrangement, you are offered work to cover for a permanent employee on holiday or off with illness. Hence work isn't guaranteed. Part time put simply. Typically, this is the situation for at least two years. Fine if you have another household income or plenty in savings or other irons in the fire.
Pros
Work wear.
Cons
Part time arrangement.

Assembly Worker (Current Employee) - Leyland, Lancashire - 2 December 2023
In my year-long tenure at the company, the work culture has been demanding, requiring constant engagement with little room for breaks. The workload has been consistently intense, often leaving me fatigued to the point of sleeping late into the morning. This sentiment resonates with many colleagues, as work-life balance seems challenging to maintain. Notably, as an agency worker, expressing dissent or conflicting with management can lead to repercussions, such as being laid off as a form of punishment. This management approach creates an environment where employees may feel pressured to conform, hindering a healthy and collaborative workplace. Despite these challenges, it's worth noting that the compensation is a notable positive aspect of the job. The high pay remains a key incentive for those willing to navigate the demanding work atmosphere.

Lacking managers but stable routine
Assembly Operative (Former Employee) - Leyland - 12 March 2023
The production line is a taxing job for some and an easy to settle into routine for others. It's straight forward enough once the position has been learned. Unfortunately the overtime is mandatory while they might claim it optional, it simply isn't and the management of the line is also in a sorry state comparatively. The positions here do have stability though the work is expected to be completed regardless of how unrealistical the managers expectations are and it simply isn't worth putting your suggestions forward as they won't be taken on. This companies managers are very much of the mindset - keep your head down, do your work and don't complain because they don't pay you for your input.
Pros
Stability, decent wages
Cons
Mandatory overtime, poor management

1940's management
Material Handler (Current Employee) - Preston - 23 August 2019
Management in the parts side of the business run a culture of threats and bullying. Plucking random numbers out of thin air and using them for pick rate targets ( no actual time and motion study used ) Regular threats that you are not achieving what is expected but no explanation of what they actually expect. Very much a culture of if your face fits your ok. Don't bother making the effort to use all the different machinery as you will get paid the same for standing there sticking boxes together as you will for breaking your back picking heavy goods. Money good but that's it.
Pros
Money
Cons
Everything else

Hard graft if you're on the production line.
Line Operator (Former Employee) - Leyland, Lancashire - 16 August 2019
Hard work, young man's job on the production line. Don't get a lot of time to pick it up. If it's you're sort of thing it's fine. Lots of the lads out for themselves.
Pros
Salary is good even on agency.
Cons
None stop graft all day.

Work Experience (Former Employee) - Leyland, Lancashire - 14 February 2018
I came to Leyland Trucks to undertake one weeks work experience. I was given the opportunity to work in the Prototype department where I had the chance to learn and do some hands on experience under the supervision of a senior technician. The people who worked there were extremely helpful and great to work with. The hard part of the job was waking up at 5.30am but after a few days I was use to it. However during my weeks experience I participated in many tasks that were enjoyable at the same time.

Job security and good benefits
Administrator (Former Employee) - Leyland, Lancashire - 12 September 2017
Overall a good company to work for. Salaries are above average, benefits are good. Not a great deal of females in managerial roles, so quite a male orientated environment. Kept generally busy. Lack of flexibility for people with children.
Pros
good salaries, training opportunities, job security
Cons
Start times, maternity package, restrictions on when holidays can be taken, flexibility

A good work experience employer
Work Experience Assistant (Former Employee) - Samlesbury - 23 April 2017
Leyland trucks are a good work experience employer and provide opportunities for advancement if people then want to work full time for them later. They are good at training and in relations with their work force. They have been established over 100 years and this shows in how they look after staff. Also they treat all health and safety issues as important and look after their staff well.

Productive and nicely managed
Truck Assembly worker (Former Employee) - LeyLand - 10 February 2014
Usually begin work 20 minutes before schedule to prepare all the tools and station for a production with no downtime.
I have learned how to work in a fast piece environment, achieving goals settled by headquarters, serving high quality skills with an eye to details, keeping up with freely moving production line, using tools both manual and power(pneumatic, electric) on a daily basis, working as a team member with all due respect, keeping up with the deadlines.
Work was executed in a very calming and friendly environment.
The big challenge I have faced during my employment was a first day at the station when had to learn and absorb all the knowledge and skills to do the job right.
This was very good paying work I think getting my wage was the most enjoyable thing also the possibility to gain a new skills and learn new things was an advantage too.
