Good Workplace but Disappointing Relocation

When starting, there was a good team with good workplace culture. Management was open and supportive of new social workers for the most part. There was generous and flexible work arrangements as well. The real downside though, was the relocation package was really lacking with support to transition to living and working and London. There were many logistical issues and things were very slow to get up and running, so it was very disappointing to experience this especially from moving to London from overseas. HR basically ghosted me upon arrival with their support.

Pros

Great colleagues.

Cons

Disappointing relocation package.

Nothing to add

Great location. Generous leave entitlement and other benefits. Increasingly modernising. Relatively new offices. Collaborative and shared goals and ambitions.

Productive and developed my skills

Well resourced LA and lots of training and emotional support during Covid. Management were very supportive and approachable. There was lots of bite size training around Liquid Logic and systems services were always available for additional support when need be.

Na

I gained a lot of knowledge in a new area of work during my time with this employer which has been very valuable. It is a very fast paced environment which is not always condusive with a healthy work/life balance hence my decision to leave.

A really wonderful place to work for.

A typical day for me is extremely interesting to me not only because I like to work with my favourite media, which are books dvds and other media. But in this role I get to know more about the media and communicate my love to this amongst my colleagues and customers. I learn more about the stock this way and more about the people's interests in them. And more about my own. My management have always been second to none, so helpful and professional to all staff. The hardest part of the job is learning about all these things, but I have to say this is also the most enjoyable as you never stop learning. It's just the job security here is not at it's best, because of the threat of reduncancy hanging over us all right now. Karen Joannou.

Very good place to work and develop skills. Hard work was generally recognised and rewarded.

A typical day would start with seeing my managers and speaking about their workload and any decisions needed to be taken at my level. Dealing with elected members took a large chunk of my time and attending many meetings both in work time and evening meetings either at Housing Committee or Tenant Associations. I did learn a lot about management and Law whilst at Barnet and this held me in good stead throughout my time there. In general the management structure was good and geared to promotion within. My teams were in the main excellent members of staff, bright and hard working. The hardest part of my job was having to evict tenants having exhausted all avenues to try and avert that action, and keeping elected members happy. The most enjoyable part of my job without doubt was seeing staff develop and progress often to very high positions, and tenants' expectations realised and providing nice places to live.

Pros

Working with good staff, and being able to develop their skills.

Cons

Difficult elected members who had their own agenda not in line with Council procedures.
