Reviews for Bus Driver at Lothian Buses
The poor relation of the Lothian Group
PCV Bus Driver (Current Employee) - Livingston - 15 March 2023
You will constantly be told that ‘we’re all part of the same family’ when it comes to the three subsidiaries (Lothian, Lothian Country, East Coast Buses) however this couldn’t be further from the truth. If you work at Lothian Country you will be paid significantly less, work longer hours, have far inferior terms and conditions than if you work in the city. Has the potential to be a good place to work if there was more equality with the main city operation. Routes are extremely poorly timed. You will often be running upwards of 30 minutes late. There is no support for drivers out on the road as radio calls will be routinely ignored and if they are answered you won’t be able to hear a word they’re saying as there is no radio signal out into West Lothian. Buses are generally well maintained. Local garage management and supervisors are approachable and will do their best to help you out, however those in more senior positions within the group seem to have washed their hands of the Country operation and aren’t willing to do a thing to make things better for the drivers. Good variety of shift patterns to suit most people. 5 over 7 earlies/lates, 4 over 7 (12 hour shifts), late rota, night rota, split shift rota, part time.
Pros
Approachable garage management
Cons
Route timings impossibly tight, pay disparity with other parts of the group

Annoying people
Bus Driver (Former Employee) - Edinburgh - 21 August 2022
Dealing with customers who can't read or respond and have no sense of direction. 🤣 standing in traffic and having fun standing some more. Good pay but experience with special needs people essential.
