Fast paced and very stressful

Indeed featured review

I worked at Lothian for 9yrs as a Driver. Garage bosses varied. I worked at marine garage and my manager treated you as a person and not just a number he listened to you and actually cared not like the other managers in the other garages. If you have a family with young kids this job isn’t for you as the shift work is horrendous. Wages after your first 3yrs are amazing you’d need a trade to get the same wages. You can walk out with around £650pw if your willing to do overtime.

Pros

Paid excellent Wage, free bus pass.

Cons

Shift work is horrendous. Horrible passengers at times. Edinburgh roads/works

It is what you make it.

If you put your head down and graft then opportunities are available for progression. It can be hard at times but that’s when you need to pull up your sleeves. Shifts are ideal for childcare. If you do your best and work within the team you will be left alone to do your job which is well paid when you look at other places around.

Pros

Wages, people you work with, opportunities to progress

Cons

Shift work

Rubbish

Steer clear of this company if you value your sanity. Constant threat of being reported hanging over you whether it's out on the road or in the depot. Bosses are only interested when your working all the hours for them as soon as you say no to overtime their attitudes change. Your brainwashed into thinking you won't get paid as well or get as good benefits elsewhere. Believe me that's nonsense.

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours no social life.

No life

If you want your life span to dramatically decrease then become a bus driver, not a job for a young person with a family, this job leads to litterly no life. Pay is OK but it's a long wait until you are on good pay which I feel is very unfair for the kind of lifestyle and work stress that comes along with it. Dayshift backshift midshift your body clock is always to pot, bad for your health in my opinion. Only good thing about the job is your colleagues you work with. Good bunch of people. Only apply if your on the verg of retirement and to tide you over until you retire.

Pros

Work mates

Cons

Shift work, decrease in life span

The worst working environment ive ever been in

Utter h#ll on wheels, management always threatening you,god help you if you ever get ill, never mind a family emergency or bereavement, more threats will follow, toilets are pretty non existent so get a catheter fitted, its like a abusive relationship do well and it goes unnoticed but make one error and you will be made to feel like it was deliberate..........if you have no other option drive for them but be warned it really is awful, depression is rife there so many taking there own lives or dying young sounds dramatic but its the truth.

Pros

Wages...but you will work for it with they own you attitude

Cons

Threats, bulling, shifts, public, no social life, working holidays, constant jet lag.

Stress amd bad shift patterns

The job is full of strees caused by the company always blaming the drivers so lots of drivers get sacked. Social life you can forget it you have terrible shift patterns and your days off are nearly always apart and you have to work Xmas and new year.

Pros

Wages

Cons

fast peace and very dangerous! not worth it

not the best place to work money is ok but at a price you need to run around like a headless chicken drive like a maniac. alot of pressure on you to get bus numbers up witch means your competing with the other guys to see who has the most done. this is when accidents happen then its your fault management is the ones that cause it all think its a game to them.i would not recommend this company to anyone dont let the money full you its not worth it. you have been warned!

the highest paid bus drivers in scotland

Although the place has changed since I worked there, it has to be said that they were the highest paid PCV Driver in Scotland ( nest to London Transport ) and yes they were union friendly though you were under scrutiny constantly due to the onboard tracker system etc. I have to say I had no issues to complain about and the depot staff were exceptionally supportive throughout a traumatic personal issue in 2013. I would recommend this company to anyone starting out on their PCV Career.

n/a

Very dangerous to drive through out of the town. Narrow streets, people running at the front of the bus to get on it...etc...new drivers get paid less and never gained the equal salary with rest of the staff, started working before 2018. No back up from managers as you don't really see them. No toilets overall, need to stop at the local pub for your needs...Your choice.

Awful

This company is brilliant to work for if you are a bully, racist, sexist or homophobic. I witnessed bullying, harassment, inappropriate and unprofessional conduct and racism first hand by management. I was told I'd have 6 months training when I was let go after 3 because I didnt know enough about the role. This company is awful to work for.

Enjoyed my time there with a great bunch of lads

My problem with lothian buses arose due to undiagnosed medical conditions resulting in lack of concentration and excessive risk taking while driving a single deck bus this manifested in a series of accidents that assured my termination and rightly so. Its worthy of note that the health issues were finally discovered in 2001 and 2005 stomach ulcers, gallstones and heart disease.

Workplace

Better stay away from this employer, this type of work and employer demands are not worth it for this money they offer. You risk your licence and human life when doing that job for same mone you can be cleaning houses or offices. Earnings are not so high like peoples thinking. Only old contract guys get good money apart that rubish system and manegement. Union are bad as well.

Pros

Average money

Cons

Work and management

Toxic Lothian

This company is one of the most poorly run companies from a treatment of staff perspective. They also have such historic ways of thinking and processes.. they put out fancy buses but still issue paper payslips! Majority of the senior management in head office should not be in the positions they are in, including this newly formed “people function”. If you like a company who don’t reward you for doing things well but scream at you for doing things wrong, head office as well as operational. A company with historic ways of thinking and adverse to change. A culture where you only get places if you kiss up to the right management. This is the company for you! Hello historic toxic Lothian... did you know the MDs EA lasted 2 months and left crying due to the way he talked to her... and they denying bullying in the press... says it all
