Great infrastructures not very advanced in bio related subjects

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
One of the best Universities for students, with many facilities and great life-work balance. The first worldwide in Sports related subject, Great Departments of Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing and Chemical Engineering. Unfortunately, needs a lot of development in bio related subjects...

Good place for work/life balance but don’t expect more

Once you understand the job and your duties it’s pretty straightforward. However you won’t get a praise or promotion for extra work. Management just tell you how much they appreciate your work however when talking about progression there is none. There is no promotion possible in the department, you can only apply for a post if it becomes available which is open to everyone. Being in the department does not guarantee a promotion. There is also no diversity in the professional services, same typical people English and white however in academia it varies. If you’re ‘different’ you don’t feel like you fit in. There is a flexibility in the job which is good. However not all departments have hybrid working available which I found strange as it should be a general policy of the university as a whole organisation.

Pros

Flexibility, home working possible, good work/life balance

Cons

No progression, no promotion. No support in self-development.

Very disappointed with my treatment

What is the best part of working at the company?Free meals, and workmates. The management extremely poor taking massive wages but paying below average wages. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Lack of support or loyalty from the management, whereas they demand total loyaltyWhat is the work environment and culture like at the company?Workmates great, management (directors etc) are only there to get as much out of the business for themselves as they can What is a typical day like for you at the company?8 till 4 running around various venue's all day

Great place to pursue further study and begin a research career

The work can bleed into evenings and weekends like many PhDs do, but the institute's Doctoral College has excellent training and support and organises many networking events to enable you to meet and collaborate with peers.

Pros

Excellent University support and training

Cons

Your mileage will vary massively depending on PhD supervisor

Excellent Work Environment and Work-Life Balance

I enjoyed my time here. The positive atmosphere and employee-friendly policies make it a great place to work. The flexibility offered here is exceptional, allowing employees to manage their work while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. In all, I highly recommend this organization to anyone seeking a fulfilling and flexible work experience.

Ok place wages low for work required

Changed contracts from 40 hrs to 30 hrs, so if there was another lockdown or slow business period, the company will only pay 30 hrs. However they still want you to work 40 hrs

Pros

Free lunches

Cons

Covering 5 venues

Bridging to industry in a supportive environment

Lots of opportunities to get exposure to industry collaborations, giving me the chance to learn about how to deliver a project industrially, which I quite liked!

Good hours term Time only

Great hours but a lot is expected in very few hours and you are expected to pick up others staff work when they are off sick within same time frame. I was glad to leave

Not as expected

Not great if you are not working with the powerful people. Many biases and politics in the academic departments. Need to hire better academics to enhance the teaching and research outcomes.

Interesting project, however, low salary and no career progression

The project I was working on was fairly laid back and was interesting with potential for publication. As with probably most RA positions no route or advice for academic career progression was offered instead only further RA work was suggested with no pay progression. The salary is as widely known far lower than what you will find in industry.

Struggle to Progress

Their is pros and cons of working for Loughborough University, like most jobs these days. When you first start working for the company they give you a sense of belonging and make you feel part of a good team, but after a few years you tend to notice a different side to the business, like no way to Progress in your role, unless you know certain people, pay is very harsh compared to roles and workload, management can be very one sided between work and personal life, more in favour of work.Role and working hours change at the drop of a hat, for instance you will never know where you are working or what you are doing the next week until the Thursday before, which is hard when you are a parent and have a partner on shift work, that has their hours done yearly.

Pros

Good Christmas Break and Bank Holidays, Nice Students and Staff Around Campus

Cons

Poor Rota Management, Hard to Progress, Weak Work and Life Balance, Attitude Within Management is Unprofessional

Productive and fun workplace.

Loving my time here. I work in a small team and we get along well. We currently are understaffed so there is a workload. However, I am still enjoying my placement and learning new stuff

Great place to work

Flexible hours, worked around family life. Friendly bunch of people and overall a great place to work. The pay isn't too bad, understanding of childcare needs

Great people to work alongside, everybody is very friendly

The pay is not enough to live on , always known to be a good paying company and now only pay minimum wage . People on long term sick or that are not productive in their roles means others have to pick up the slack , which leads to low staff morale . Heavy workload at times with not enough hours in the day . Summer tends to be the busiest time .

Good to get in experience

It wasn't the most exciting place to work and there was a lot of expected overtime. However, paid the bills and a fairly comfortable job. Just not one for the long term

Fun

It was a good first part-time job experience. Good pay and flexible timings. Would encourage other student to take up part time work as a student helper/ambassador at the university.
