The best place I have ever worked
Apprentice Electrician (Current Employee) - Winfrith Newburgh - 16 January 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI love my job. I have been working for Magnox for 3 years and it is the best job I have ever had. The people I work with make the place a fun and exciting place to work and I haven’t once dreaded going in every morning. The hours are brilliant and my work life balance is great. My only complaint is that as an apprentice I don’t get to work overtime there or get the company bonus. Luckily the pay is extremely good for apprentices and goes up very often. The management is good, my manager specifically is lovely and supports me in everything I do. There are some very smart people who can teach you a lot and have a laugh at the same time. I love it there and would recommend it to anyone.
Pros
Good pay, good hours, nice environment
Cons
Apprentices don’t get bonuses or overtime

Culture changed
Water Engineer (Current Employee) - Winfrith, Dorset - 9 October 2022
Culture has shifted from presentism one to a flexible one after the pandemic. All depends who you line manager is though, you’ll be either really supported and developed well, or not supported at all and not developed.

Weak Leadership & Prehistoric Working Patterns
Project Manager (Former Employee) - Various - 8 July 2022
Weak leadership with prehistoric views of working patterns with limited flexibility to perform work from home. The salary and benefits cannot compete with private companies operating in the same sector. The career advancement opportunities are painfully slow. A short stint of 18-24 months may give you some worthwhile experience, however I would not recommend a long term career. Many of the longer serving members of staff openly say that the company is a retirement home.

People are the greatest asset
Waste Engineer (Current Employee) - Bradwell on Sea, Essex - 17 May 2020
People are the greatest asset at Magnox without a doubt. The role is varied and you can either really challenge yourself, or not. You really have the potential shine in this organisation.
The company are leading the way in nuclear cleanup of their 12 Sites in the the UK with safety of people and the environment always at the forefront.
Pay across two sites should align with the other ten and management are aware.

Dynamic site programme at Bradwell not replicated across the wider estate
Business Manager (Current Employee) - Essex - 12 September 2018
Magnox is an excellent company to work for with safe delivery and care for its workers being the top priority. The Nuclear decommissioning industry is currently in something of a state of flux owing to the very poor contract award for the Parent Body Organisation.
With a new executive structure due to take charge in 2019, the priority must be on the effectiveness of current site plans which, as they stand are unaffordable and undeliverable; as well as the strategic coordination and accountability for the delivery of those plans and the communication of them to the wider workforce such that it is understood which elements are critical for overall delivery.
The delivery of Bradwell into its decommissioned state has been described as a “monumental accomplishment”, and the industry has not thus far done a good job in learning the lessons from its delivery.
Pros
Good work life understanding

Productive; Challenging
Project Decommissioning Engineer (Former Employee) - Westkilbride - 10 September 2018
A Typical Day at work, would best be described as' spinning plates' in a very controlled manor.
Everyday in this industry is a school day, and at times it feels like it is constant flux. Managing Subcontract labour is common on these construction sites. The most Challenging part of the work is trying to line up all the ducks to try to deliver on time. The most enjoyable is when you hit a long term goal.
