AVOID! At all cost. Toxic. Bad management, bullying. Favouritism. Very high sickness levels
Aviation Security Officer (Former Employee) - Manchester Airport, Greater Manchester - 10 April 2022
New recruits avoid. At the moment average pass rate in training is 30%. Example:- 20 in training, only 4 will pass first time, then another 2 will pass the resit leaving 6. The rest will have no job. Out of the 6 remaining 2 will leave within six weeks. You also have to resit this test (NXCT) every 12 months. You only get three attempts, if you fail it’s bye bye Worked there for a very long time. Salary and T and C’s were excellent at the start. Approximately £33 to £37k in todays money. Massive pay cuts in 2002 and T and C’s. Typical day. Frisking passengers and staff, X-raying bags, searching bags and loading X-ray machines. Can be very long hours starting at 3am till 3pm four days on the bounce. Working most weekends, nights and any other unsociable hour you can think of! They can change your shifts and days off at short notice. So no work life balance. Remote parking 1.5 miles away from workplace. Allow an extra 40 minutes to your journey to work Will give more information soon. Still on holiday in the Caribbean. Unfortunately there won’t be many positives

Stressful and underpaid
Aviation Security Officer (Former Employee) - Manchester - 4 April 2022
You have the constant stress of huge volumes of passengers and not enough staff. Wage is shocking for the work you do. Lowers as well if you go onto a set roster. Breaks are hit and miss but have the benefit of being paid and good length. Not permanent with a test being done every year which could lead to being out of a job.
Pros
Paid and lengthy breaks
Cons
Bad management
