Positive and rewarding place to work

Received extensive training and was welcomed into a positive working environment. Management are very organised and fair and overall it's a great place to work.

Chaotic

Pros: Decent wage, 20% discount, online perks (other small discounts, healthcare/ advice).Cons: Very unorganised, ever-changing policies and expectations, poor management (lower and upper), long hours doing repetitive jobs, short unpaid breaks, never enough staff so days feel chaotic and leave you feeling drained.

Lack of job security and disorganised manager

Managers were awful and struggled to organise. They chose to hire people who have said they can't be asked to work and complain about working. The only positive was that some managers were nice.

Cons

lack of job security, rude manger, disorgansed

Enjoyable workplace

Very friendly and positive work environment, I have enjoyed my time at m&s. Often felt like I was listened to by manager and colleagues. Overall very good.

Horrible place to work

Not a nice place to work, very depressing. I wouldn’t recommend working here. Management are awful, one in particular. She has no people skills whatsoever, she bully’s staff and wonders why they leave. Management are not great two faced and just plain wrong.

Pros

Made friends

Cons

Long hours, late nights.

decent pay, bad management

worked for m&s for a few months, applied to work day shifts a few days a week and then after being hired they told me i’d be doing nights instead which was fine at the time. Shifts were supposed to be from 4am-8am, sometimes finishing at noon if needed. they changed my schedule without informing me and had me doing 4am-noon one day and then working a 3pm-10pm the next, was impossible to get into a good sleeping pattern and it was very frustrating for me, especially after they’d told me they needed someone to do nights more and then changed my working hours without notice. Management didn’t care much about it either, not much support or concern for staff’s wellbeing. Pay was decent for what it was but say good bye to your social life if you do nights here

If you valued your time

I worked on a temp contract and it was the worst 3 mouths of my life,if you want to deal with spineless managers, bad working conditions and get blamed doe everything because you haven't got the proper training then I wish you luck,I got fired over text and I think that's poof enough that it's just a bad job

decent place, work loads can be heavy

its okay, get a decent percent off your weekly shop. if your working with the right people it can be great fun. hours arent too bad. however, it isnt managed very well and the managers arent that great either! overall a solid 6/10

Great company

Friendly people, good team, good perks and benefits. A lot of skills to learn in different departments and areas of the store. Great induction training.

Horrific managers

The people make this job, made so many good friends working there and the job itself is nothing too challenging, the only issue being the awful managers, a few in my time working there were nice, majority of them spoke to staff in extremely condescending, patronising, and sometimes overly aggressive tone, overheard managers on multiple occasions slagging staff off to other members of staff and very few are actually capable of empathy towards you

Typical Retail Job

The job was typical. I worked on the shop floor in the food hall. The pay was okay. It’s mostly teenagers and older employees on the shop floor and then people in their 30s as management. The environment was slightly gossipy due to the small team.

okay but not great

managers are unsupportive, and rude customers! but plenty of hours are available! will only give temporary contacts so not very stable for longevity!

Standard retail job.

Job was very basic and things to do were straight forward. However, management don't get along with each other and all contradict from one another. Certain managers choose favourites and it can get frustrating how people are treated differently.
