Love Marriott as a company

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Company has great direction and only after leaving did I realise how much I loved working for them and how well managed they are. Pay could be better however great benefits.

Pros

Free lunch, I got a room in Times Square for 40 dollars a night through bonvoy

Cons

In social hours however management are great at assisting requests

What a waste

I have worked over 3 years for 2 sites. First was ok, 5 stars second... Complete failure. I was salaried, doing in the region of 55-60 hrs/week for 16000 in 2005.Advancement only if you leave, you are just a tool that has a job to do. If you accept to play their game and can cope, you will be fine. So many brand standards and expectations completely disproportionate with the benefits and wage.

Pros

Leisure club use

Cons

Wage, hours, culture, prospects (or lack of)

No life balance

They paid salary and make to work more than hours ... on total if you calculate you must be earning less than minimum wage. Not good work atmosphere for salaried staff. Make sure you get paid hourly so managers cannot take advantage

Pros

None

Cons

Manager turning late to shifts and you have to stay for it

The most magical place to work

I started at the Marriott Leeds as a young 16 year old college student on a work placement, and I couldn't have been more fortunate to be placed in such a wonderful hotel. I felt so much warmth and love and support from all those around me, so eager to help me grow and develop. You are empowered to take accountability and responsibility for your actions, giving you the ability to go above and beyond for your guests, amazing recognition scheme and fantastic benefits/staff rates. Marriott truly is a company which values and cares for its associates, we are listened to and valued and appreciated. Associate appreciation day every year is like Marriott Christmas, everyone is celebrated and celebrates each other. Marriott culture is so uplifting and empowering, every day I woke up as excited to head to the hotel as the guests, I thrived from the experience I gained at the Marriott and blossomed into a wonderful career. I think if I started anywhere else I wouldn't have the same genuine passion, energy and enthusiasm for the industry and could not have been prouder to work for such a company. I used to walk around the city centre on my lunch break in my uniform just to show it off! The opportunities within the company are endless and everyone around you has the same common goal, to make it memorable for the guests. Often if companies tell you they are 'like a family' this can be a huge red flag, but when a company really is like a family they don't feel the need to say it and I never heard that phrase at the Marriott, yet I knew every face in the building and spoke with everyone I -

Pros

Free meal on shift, Living wage, Community culture, Endless opportunities, Great rewards and benefits package.

Cons

Not as much recognition/award opportunities for casuals(0 hour contracts).

Great job, not enough pay

Love working for Marriott. Great discounts for hotels and free meals at work. Great guest interaction and work in a great team. Sometimes a big work load and not paid enough for the amount you do and knowledge and systems you need to know. No overtime paid

Pros

Travel discounts

Cons

Not enough pay

Good for careers

In my personal experience at Marriott, I would work again for the company. You have plenty of chances to develop new skills and grow as worker. In two years, I have started as a waiter and I have ended my career with Marriott as supervisor of the hosting team.

Pros

Salary

Cons

Unorganized

Fantastic working environment with an amazing team to work with and amazing supervisors and managers who look out for you as much as possible the only downside would be 0 hours which is also a bonus as you aren’t limited or capped at how many hours you get per week

Pros

Amazing support, Good pay, Flexible Hours

Cons

0 Hours - but it’s in your contract if you are zero hours and they are very willing to explain

Great culture, great management team

Would have stayed had it not been for the poor salary. Great company to work for, very family oriented and supportive. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a start in hospitality.

The biggest company in the hotel industry

Marriott is a great place if you wish to progress in your career. It is a fast-paced environment with a lot of policies and procedures to learn which will take you further if you know we are you heading to. I had colleagues being promoted twice within 9 months, enough for them to move to better places and positions. It is worth to consider working at Marriott International if you are young and ambitious and keen to move on quickly on the career ladder.

Pros

Free meals (lunch and dinner).

Cons

Low salary.

Minions

Horrible to work for, slave labour, not appreciated when you work all the hours to cover and keep the spa open. Expected to massage 8 hours plus which exceeds health and safety.

If you don’t want to be able to make your own decisions...

Strong company with money to spend but all decisions take ages to make. Really old fashioned ideas, old fashioned uniforms, etc, but the salary is always higher than with other companies

Great benefits, shame about the salary

A typical day at work is fast paced and rewarded with a great team experience. I have learnt a lot for my career progression, however progression is hard as most of the management have been in their position for 10 years + with no signs of moving on.

Pros

Free Lunch

Cons

Salary

franchised Marriott

Never again will i work for a franchised hotel chain. All of the standards expected but with none of the perks. 75 hour weeks were regular to make sure tight budget targets were met and ecceeded ( no bonus scheme also so not encouraging) when other HOD were lucky to touch 40 if that.

Pros

wage

Cons

hours, morale, progression

Not bad if this is your first role

Great atmosphere, poor salary in all departments, management needs improving but the best thing are the people you will work with, very passionate and fun and friendly

Managment are 2 faced, dont care how they talk to you and wherethey talk to you, speak down to jnr staff if you not in the click you out

Work at marriot courtyard invernes, managment cover ther own, and leave the rest up to there own, not a relaxing place to work, short staff, and no overtime
