Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWhat is the best part of working at the company? The culture is rooted in family origination of this company. Expect collaboration, alignment, care and interesting tasks. Very good for junior roles and initial career growth. You do not know much and enjoy the façade. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Things are done through relationships, not through the processes. It's challenging to find the decision maker. At Mars, bosses do not like to talk about problems and challenge status quo. They love optimistic folks who just go and do things without giving it much thought. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Big family with all pluses and minuses of it. Make sure you have good relationships with your boss or the boss of your boss. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Back to back VCs, presentations, multiple attempts to approve a project, talking to associates at lunch and eating free chocolates.

Research Assistant (Current Employee) - Waltham - 29 September 2023
Fabulous working environment Just a lot of cliques Mars itself a great company to work for, it is just the Waltham research site that seems to have these issues Development based on weaknesses rather than strengths

Not a bad place if you love working with animals. However sometimes quite frustrating when your not listened to. Jobs are changing all the time even when it's not needed

Interesting
Unit specialist (Current Employee) - Waltham - 19 August 2023
It’s an interesting place to work but management need to listen more to the needs of the staff. In terms of rota’s and staff and home life balance for mental health

excited teaser and then painful movie
Technical Manager (Former Employee) - UK - 21 June 2023
It is all about management and how you can survive from grinding teeth of the company. Please be aware: this is a big family company and all leaders tries to keep them happy (which is quite normal)! It doesn't matter how good you are on your role or job, it relies on how much happy you keep people around you and they call it collaboration. Everybody smiles at you but say a lot of critics from your back to your line manager instead of talking to you. If your line manager loves micromanagement, then welcome to the chaos! Your motivation starts to go down, you begin to lack on your performance, your mental health begins to limp because of hearing only negative things from your manager...etc. At the end, you decide to leave. If you think that HR helps you on that, please ignore this idea. They wouldn't care: before, during or after the situation. As a result, please keep yourself away or try to get to know your manager immediately.
Pros
colleagues can become friends, sincerity in lower management levels, WFH (3 days), travels
Cons
Long hours, non-ending "urgent" emails / calls, micromanagement

Learning & Development Co-ordinator (Former Employee) - Slough, Berkshire - 14 June 2023
Superb pay, friendly colleagues. I left some time ago, following maternity leave, and still miss it. The work environment is great, with excellent staff benefits (and free chocolate!)

Warehouse, Factory Operative (Former Employee) - Melton Mowbray - 8 June 2023
In all my years that I have worked for the company and went well above and beyond my job spec, I would say that it is not a good place to work overall! I had a very bad experience/ lack of training and pressure to go the extra mile constantly, while dont want to pay extra wages. Not equal opportunities, school mates and friends of friends are preferred as its a very close knitted environment. They keep recruit and recruit and nobody stays in the end, which I always found it strange
Pros
good breaks
Cons
none

Lovely people, not so great company
Unit Specialist (Former Employee) - united kingdom - 3 May 2023
Lovely staff to work with but poorly managed and always understaffed. The shift patterns are awful and may end up working 7 days in a row, 2 days off, back for another 7. Jobs are often outsourced to an agency that will only offer temporary contracts even if you've been working at Mars for 6 years. This halts life and cannot rent or get a mortgage and Mars reluctant to help here.
Pros
people
Cons
poor contracts

Good company and good staff on my shift management okay most of the time need to be more open with staff other wise a pretty good bunch. plenty of time off in-between shifts once you get used to working days then nights 4 and 5 days at a time is a okay. Not such a high turnover of staff a lot of people been there over 15 yrs plenty of experience and people who have been being there not so long too.
Pros
Good work life balance, staff shop and other discounts too
Cons
Long hrs 60 on the 5 shift and 48 hrs on the 4 shift

Would not recommend to anyone
Shift Leader (Former Employee) - King's Lynn, Norfolk - 13 September 2022
The staff on shift are brilliant to work with, the senior team and the way the business is run is utterly appalling. They have no consideration for the staff and have proven to be liars, jeopardising people's life's and future.

Generally a nice place to work
Unit Specialist (Current Employee) - Melton Mowbray - 29 August 2022
There are some negatives as with any job but working with the animals is so rewarding and every day seeing improvements. Management are not always supportive but your team always is. I’d recommend applying if you want to work with animals as if nothing else it’s a place to go from here. But you will get so much from this job as well as life long friends

Too many chiefs, not enough indians
Production Operative (Former Employee) - King's Lynn, Norfolk - 19 August 2022
First 6 months were fantastic, great leaders and office staff really knew what they were doing. 2 years later and shift changes causing loss of pay in a world were everything is more expensive, to a company that made silly profit. No leaders, just 10 managers that don't understand a single role but demand they know how to use the machinery. High expectations to once reached are the bar higher so you can't exceed ever. Honestly loved it at the beginning because it was unique, but the sparks left and ignorance took over and destroyed the place.
