Poor management

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Doesn't appear to be much management training, my manager told my I was losing my job due to cuts and I ended up consoling her. IIt was an okay stop-gap but there was a culture of working more hours than contracted which doesn't constitute a good work life balance, not a lot of flexibility around working times either which I felt a bit backwards in this day and age.

Terrible Manager

Manager bends rules for favourites but singles out others leading to high turn over of staff. Steer clear unless you are a brilliant brown noser Also be aware that many of your colleagues have been instructed to spy on you making it hard to tell who is genuine or not. Plus don't expect any praise, even if you are top sales - only favourites gets praise! If your face doesn't fit with Manager she will make your working day unpleasant.

Pros

Free ice cream

Cons

Favouritism

Not great

Underpaid for the work they want you to do, it’s not a real sales job, just to gain distribution and get white space into distribution, Car is tracked 24/7 your speed, excessive braking, understeering and over steering is logged on company car. You must stay within 10% of speed limits even in a car park, annoying thing is in a car park with 5mph speed limit your still get flagged

Ok place to work but pay very low

I worked for McCurrach for 4 years and enjoyed my time there. The salary is poor and well below the industry standard. The culture is good and the management structure ok. Overall it would be a great place to work if the pay had been a fair representation for the work you do.

Shocking Management Team

The company itself is a good company to work for. The financial services department in this company however needs an overhaul in management. They recruit external managers meaning they cannot coach or give any kind of constructive feedback and instead rely on the rest of the team members to train any new people in the door. All frustrations of management are taken on the team. There is a major lack of support here where the people working are told openly in a meeting environment to leave the company if they aren't happy and wont smile.

Job security but low pay

Great staff working at the company, the company has great direction but pays very low for the amount of work required in return. Company car is good it fitted with a tracker so you will feel you are being watched at all times.

Pros

Good company car and.managerial opportunities

Cons

Low pay, expected to work full 8 hours in a day and work load can be intense and the company car is tracked.

You can do better

The role consisted of visiting various stores throughout the day on a very large territory. The role of the job is fairly easy and basic. You are paid for 40 hours a week but the actual hours worked are a minimum 50 hours a week. Overtime is not paid nor time in lieu given. Travel to first and final call are not considered working hours irrelevant of how far from home they are. Breaks are unpaid. Tracked company car necessary to do the job, but it is heavily taxed. Management have no interpersonal skills and poor communication. Work colleagues are the best part of the job.

Field Sales Good

Excellent company to work for the contract was with Brittish Gas for cavity insulation in homes, contract was pulled as funding ended. Had to call at customers homes and inform them they can get free insulation, has to measure the property to determine amount of materiel needed and book appointments.

Pros

Weeks away for training in 5* hotels

Cons

Not a manager position

Job title is very misleading, it is a rep position. Great for somebody’s first job but not in any way a management role. Pay is poor for the amount of travelling, turn up at a store and post a few bits of nonsense on yammer that’s it. Think twice if you are looking for a manager role. Do not think you can use this as a stepping stone into manager position just because of the title, it is a sales rep with an awful uniform. Managers above are useless as they have no management experience.

Pros

Easy work, can blag easily

Cons

Long hours, poor pay, bad management

Good for students and people who live at home

The best thing about this job is the company car. There are very few prospects and the money is low; it is great if you just want a fun/ easy job for a short while. Some days I tried my hardest and other days I did very little; either way, no one seemed to really notice. The monthly meetings were fun with everything paid for. Nice bunch of people and even met the CEO who seemed a good guy. Hours are good also with no weekends plus you can start early and finish early if you want.

Pros

Car, free lunches, monthly meetings, not micro managed, visiting different places each day, good hours.

Cons

Limited prospects, low pay

Very bad company

They say you are employed to work 40 hours but McCurrach don't count travel time to first and last call of the working day which means you can be working 10 hours a day with travel time x 5 days a week not 40 hours . Every monthly team meeting the whole job changes e.g. Hours, what you are meant to be doing in your job the management tell you to record SKU lines as 0 when you first go to a new call even if the call has lines on display. So they can look good to PepsiCo.The Management are rubbish and Some use bullying tactics to get what they want from there staff.

Pros

None

Cons

The whole job.

Unprofessional Company

- Visit various outlets throughout the day - First outlet call by 8am / last call 3.30pm - Driving to first call and from last call is classed as personal time not work time. - Complete admin work once home for at least an hour. - Little management support - No overtime paid but questioned if not enough hours are logged.

Pros

Fuel Card

Cons

Poor training & communication.

Fun, decent basic but no commission or incentives

A good company to work for in terms of the role and the tools they give you to do the job, the wage is not the greatest and there is no incentives for you to strive to earn extra income. Progress through the ranks seems difficult as seems to be very much a clique atmosphere and it’s who you know not what you know or achieve. Call files get changed very often meaning it’s difficult to build customer relationships

Pros

ÂŁ3.50 lunch allowance, company car is decent spec

Cons

No bonus/incentives, long hours, constant change of focus and call files
